I’m glad another reviewer called out the addition of chicory root to the reformulated formula, ever since I picked up the rebranded edition on the 12th I’ve had many more GI problems! Apparently chicory root is known to cause them. Other reviews’ comments about the taste are absolutely correct, it’s also far less flavorful. Now I’m stuck with 4 boxes of this…

A Former Favorite, Now it’s Terrible

A couple of months ago I bought three boxes of the Chocolate crunch (It’s mine and my husbands favorite, we went through so many boxes a week), and we thought we had gotten a bad batch. The flavor is terrible, texture is terrible, tastes and feels stale. I hate when companies change formulas. I guess the only good thing is we save a ton of money, we won’t be purchasing anymore sadly.

The change in Kashi's Chocolate crunch recipe is NOT NEARLY AS GOOD as it used to be. I have been a faithful daily consumer of this cereal for over 5 years, and the change is not for the better. It is far less chocolatey, and kind of tastes like cardboard. I beg Kellogg and Kashi to please restore it's chocolate crunch cereal to it's former deliciousness.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This cereal is great! I love that it has protein and fiber in it to keep me fuller for longer. I love the chocolate flavor and the texture is almost like granola. I wish it was a little bit sweeter.

My favorite cereal is ruined

I have been buying this cereal for years, and I'm incredibly disappointed in the new cereal formulation. It's inedible compared to the original recipe. And, why did they have to add chicory root fiber?! Additionally, this now has 5% less magnesium. The taste is the real deal breaker though, because it takes awful. I don't like leaving poor reviews, but I feel compelled to give feedback on this. PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK.

This specific cereal was my go-to cereal for the past couple of years. The flavor was excellent and I always looked forward to having a bowl without feeling too guilty about indulging since the macros are pretty alright. However, it seems there has been a recipe change recently and because of this change, the flavor has been significantly reduced. Also, as someone with a sensitive digestive tract, I am sorely disappointed to say that I can no longer eat this cereal as the recipe change is causing digestive upset that I was not having before when eating the old recipe. Unless the recipe changes to reflect the old ingredients, unfortunately, I will no longer be able to purchase this cereal anymore.

I’ve been a loyal Kashi Go Lean Crunch (Chocolate) customer for years, easily 50+ boxes a year. Until recently, it was one of the best-tasting cereals on the market. The recent recipe change has completely altered that. The flavor is very bland, the texture is stale and cardboard-like, and it no longer delivers what kept me (and many others) coming back. I get that recipe changes don’t happen in a vacuum, cost pressures, ingredient sourcing, supply chain efficiency, nutrition targets, maybe even global product alignment. Those are real business considerations. But here’s the tradeoff I see as a customer: a product that’s now (likely) cheaper to make, but one that loyal buyers no longer recognize or enjoy. And when those buyers leave, they usually don’t come back. That’s not just lost sales, it’s a long-term brand trust and brand equity risk from your most loyal customers, and that’s a lot harder and more costly in the long term to fix. A quick look at your own product page shows I’m not alone. Dozens of recent reviews from long-time customers say the same thing. Sadly, after years of loyalty, I’ve moved on to a completely different brand, and based on the other loyal customer reviews here, I am not alone.

I have enjoyed Kashi Go Lean Crunch (chocolate) for a few years. Lately every box I have purchased has seemed stale and tasteless. I thought it was just a fluke and checked the exp date. It was no where near expiring. I bought three more times and it had the same stale, bland, taste. Then I started Googling… now I realize those boxes specific boxes were not the issue… Kellogg’s recipe changed and drastically altered the taste of the product with a recent recipe change. Such a bummer. I have moved to another brand after buying probably 45 boxes a year for the last several years. Too bad. Can’t say I’ll ever try the product again.

This has been my favorite cereal for years. Recently the recipe changed and now it's inedible. It doesn't taste as good, as many other reviewers have noted, but the main problem is that they added chicory root fiber which is a cheap ingredient that adds "fiber" but causes digestive distress for me and a lot of people. I don't have any digestive issues normally and I regularly eat a high-fiber diet, and other fiber additives don't hurt me. So it's not an issue of me not being used to eating 10g of fiber. It's the chicory root. I can't touch this cereal at all now. I'm extremely disappointed.

When it's good it's amazing. But 9 out of ten times when I've bought this cereal in the past few months it's been stale and inedible even though the expiration date states next year. It's so frustrating because this WAS my favorite cereal. I'm not sure what's going on with quality control but it's u acceptable

I don't have a clue what they changed in the recipe, but this cereal used to be good. I loved it. Now, it's not good and I don't like it. The last two boxes I bought were a chewier (almost stale) texture. There also wasn't nearly as much chocolate flavor. I won't buy this again. Bug disappointment.

I don't think there was a person on the planet who had eaten more Kashi Go Chocolate Crunch than I had. The formula change was the thing I needed to break my addiction to the old cereal. Kudos to Kashi for setting me free by changing it to taste stale and flavorless fresh out of the box.

From chocolate to cardboard

As a simple man, I enjoy the simple things in life. Things like nature, cats, and until recently, Kashi GO® Protein & Fiber Cereal - Chocolate Crunch. While I knew that Kashi GO® Protein & Fiber Cereal - Chocolate Crunch likely wasn't necessarily the healthiest breakfast cereal, I still appreciated its robust chocolate flavor. To be fair, that robust chocolate flavor was one of the strongest indicators that the cereal wasn't the the healthiest option, but I enjoyed it nonetheless as a quasi-forbidden treat to myself. To my great dismay, a few months ago, the recipe for Kashi GO® Protein & Fiber Cereal - Chocolate Crunch apparently changed, and decidedly not for the better. Gone was the robust chocolate flavor and in its place was... what, exactly? It's hard to describe the noted absence of robust chocolate flavor, but the remaining flavor (if you can call it that) of Kashi GO® Protein & Fiber Cereal - Chocolate Crunch can best be described as "essence of cardboard." The reasons for this change baffle me. Surely, the fine cereal engineers diligently toiling away in the Kashi labs did not set out to create an inferior product. But alas, some confluence of circumstance has conspired to deprive me of one of life's simple pleasures. All I can do now is hold out hope that one day the Kellogg's Company recognizes the error of its ways, unshackles Kashi's cereal engineers, and allows them to restore the recipe to its former glory.

If I could give this zero stars I would. I have been eating this cereal for the last 3 years every morning. The new recipe changes have made it inedible. It tastes like stale cardboard now. I wasted money on multiple boxes over two months thinking I got a bad batch not realizing the recipe had been changed. Please undo what you have done!

I’ve been buying chocolate kashi for a very long time and was so sad when I thought it was being discontinued since I couldn’t find it in stores. Turns out it was being changed to this new recipe and appearance. I’m so sad that they changed the recipe! This new one tastes stale and flavorless unlike the old chocolate kashi. Please change it back :(
