I suppose it is my mistake for not realizing Hanes makes 100% polyester socks, but these pilled and frayed after one use, not even one wash! My son wore them to school, came home and took his shoes off and there was loose threads and pilling everywhere. They don’t make it like they used to.

They do kind of look frayed or pilly... on the inside of the sock. But the outside has never shown excessive wear. My 7yo specifically asked for the same ones, "but bigger."
