Nice end tables need tougher finishes

We bought two. One of the first had to be returned due to top two pieces that were hinged were not evenly put together. There was an offset that was too noticeable when closed. Quality of the finish is low. After the first week the top’s finish had lots of small scratches that can be seen when the light hits it right. The scratches were where I had set a corked back coaster. No longer has a clean look. Not noticeable right off but is there. Worry how it’s going to wear over the years. Also of course the black shows all the dust. Must keep wiped consistently. But black was the color we needed. Maybe a better design would be a textured finish that would address the fine scratches and the dust.
