Works great until the mold arrives

We bought this in 2021 and despite cleaning the filter regularly and carefully installing at an appropriate tilt for proper drainage, we found significant black mold build up inside the blower. After watching some youtube videos it was clear we either had to remove the compressor risking coolant leakage to properly clean it or... throw it out and replace it. On to the next brand.

This will be my second season with the Midea 12,000 BTU A/C which I actually run it in my bedroom upstairs along with another 2 5,000 BTU A/Cs (not Midea) in 2 other bedrooms. Being my house is a 120 year old stucco house it can be extremely warm upstairs during the summer months. Especially in my bedroom with is the entire back of the south side of the house. Can we say WARM! Well, after I had gotten the Midea 12,000 BTU I couldn't believe how cool my room was and how it actually cooled the stairs, bathroom, and hallway (when I put a fan in my doorway to circulate the air) as well as reduce the stress on the other two A/Cs. I'd also like to mention that Alexa can control the device too. Love it!

I love this Air conditioner! I've had it now for a couple of years and it functions amazingly. The ability to raise the wondow with the air conditioner still in is great and the app makes it super easy to turn on or off my unit when I'm away! I can also set schedules for the air conditioner to function automatically without having to worry if I turned it on before I left home! The remote that came with it however, has not ever worked. It's like it doesn't link to my a.c. and the clean filter notification is always on when I open the app even after I've just cleaned it and even tho you clear the notification it comes right back but aside from those 2 issues there been nothing except excellent performance from this unit. The notification is nothing and i dont need a remote with the app! I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and I will buy this exact same unit in the future when it needs replaced. I highly recommend this brand and model air conditioning unit.

Loud and Moldy

Its crazy how loud this rattling / claking noise gets when the AC is running. Any time it is on, it makes way too much noise. Even a portable AC is quieter. Mold is starting to also appear on the inside and the outside flap, even with regular cleaning. Not great, looking to replace with something better.

Pretty upset after discovering mold in both of our units. I work in air pollution control & I have experience with HVAC as well as mold remediation. I agree with other reviews about the drain hole problem. We properly installed. We clean the units regularly. Since it got how about two months ago I started smelling a funk and recently discovered it's the AC units after several nights of sinus congestion & my family feeling sick. I used my phone to take a photo & video inside of the unit - mold everywhere. Very upsetting given that we chose to buy the more expensive "top of the line" "new groundbreaking technology" because now we have to launder everything in our bedrooms (we have to go to the laundry mat $$$), I might need to replace the mattress & furniture. Insurances don't cover mold so I have to fix things out of pocket. I'm super stressed about this.

Midea was prompt in addressing my mildly dissatisfied review. It was all by email, including troubleshooting steps. The emails are form lists of items to check, all very basic. Since my unit isn't actually broken, just doesn't function as advertised, the troubleshooting steps were of no help. Their final suggestion: Return or exchange the unit. After having gone through the complicated and slow installation, I don't want to remove it. I'll hope it functions as it does now, which is good enough.

I purchased three Midea AC units in March 2022: two 8000 BTU units and one 12000 BTU unit. The 12000 BTU unit is installed in my living room, but I barely use it compared to the other two, which I use more often. The ACs are somewhat quiet but not particularly powerful. Unfortunately, my experience with the 12000 BTU unit has been disappointing. It initially displayed an error code "PC 04" and later another error "EC 07." Considering it only lasted two summers, I expected more from a supposedly reputable brand. Overall, it has been a very bad experience.

Doesn't cool 550 sq ft

This unit claims it could 550 sq ft. It doesn't. I had an 8000 BTU unit which cooled better. I use fans to move the air around the space and it cools the room with the unit to the desired temp but is not strong enough for the rest of the apartment. It looks nice and functions well, removing humidity from the air. The installation was not easy for DIY, but I managed after a number of hours. I have not had it long enough to notice diminished electricity use. If you have bright lights outside of the window, the design of the unit, allowing light in on the sides, may not be ideal for sleeping. I'm constructing some panel to block out that light. All in all, I should have left the old unit in.

Easy to install and quiet

We did a lot of research before deciding on this unit. We wanted something that was decently quiet, easy to install and would cool our bedroom and other close areas. The install took about 25 minutes with two people. The instructions were SO EASY!! We had an older AC unit that was portable and it was so loud. This AC is way quieter than what we are used to and cools the room down incredibly fast. We don't ever notice the sound (nice white noise) and it never wakes us up. I love this unit and would recommend it to anyone!

It cools. But this thing is obnoxiously loud. It sounds like a hundred crickets are inside the unit, and it's so incredibly annoying. The AC worked normally last summer (first year I owned it). I uninstalled the unit for the winter and just reinstalled for the summer. That's when the problem started. It's also ridiculous to install, so be prepared to spend a couple of hours trying to figure it out.

I moved to Minneapolis Jan 2023 from Dallas where central air conditioning is pretty much in every house. I rented an old Victorian house which did not have central AC. I had never in my life dealt with Window AC units so I decided to buy portable AC units which I also had never used before. While they were easy to install I realized too late they were much more noisy and the hose on really hot days would radiate some heat back into the room. I decided this summer I was going to well them and replace them with the Midea U Shaped AC Units. I WISH I HAD BOUGHT THESE LAST YEAR! They are SO much more quiet than the portable units. I did buy one regular window ac last year for the kitchen as there really was no way to use a portable in there. This thing is so much quieter and the cooling is incredible! I have it in a living room window blowing towards the doorway into the kitchen. It keeps the living room so much cooler than the portable ever did. I think it's a combination of being a window unit instead of the portable with the hose emitting heat and the window being able to mostly close. The windows on the first floor of the house are pretty old if not almost original. This allows for a much better seal. I've ordered another two for the bedrooms upstairs. Can't wait to get them because I suspect I will see a huge difference in how well those rooms get cooled as well. I can't speak to the ease of installation other than I tried and couldn't do it/suspected it was more than I had the skills for so I called a handyman. He did have to do some hacks to make it work with the old windows downstairs and I'd probably never have figured that out. The upstairs windows are more recent so I'm going to try to install one upstairs myself. I

worthless

This air conditioner is pretty much worthless and not worth the hype that these media outlets tech and consumer review websites make this brand. This unit is not 12,000 btu it has a 5,000 btu output but at a much higher amperage and wattage it cools but the cooling performance is not that great and does not pull humidity from the air which is a primary function of an air conditioner it pulls a slight fraction of humidity from the air resulting in the cool and clammy which still causes you to sweat and create another set of problems in the room. The compressor creates more heat then necessary even in milder temps outdoor making this unit a huge energy waster and inefficient like other midea units ive owned the anti tip brackets are pointless when the side brackets prevent movement this unit idols more than it runs to cool never shutting down from a resulting 65 set point to 68-70 your compressors needs improvement they run way to hot and are very noisy my central system runs much quieter not being inverter. the design is thoughtful but the outdoor section is pretty ugly with no design i registered the warranty which is already 6 months in there's not point in making a claim im just going to recover the refrigerant and take it to a recycling center last but least the inverter is already emitting a burning smell you also need to add more space for the condenser section because the unit cant breath properly with every component crammed together resulting in little to no air flow.

Different install than regular window ones, but not complicated.

12k BTU Midea A/C - Pros & Cons - It's a Mixed Review
3 out of 5 stars

PROS: Good price for a powerful home unit; MUCH QUIETER compared to a traditional window a/c; it has a nice clean profile and appearance; lots of features if you're into learning what they are and how they work; smart phone app - two thumbs up (I have an iPhone); love the swinging louver feature. So far so good in terms of keeping my smaller home cool and comfortable - fingers crossed I can say the same come the July/August summer heat here on the Jersey shore. CONS: Installation IS NOT "QUICK & EASY," by any stretch of the imagination...not for "the common man," anyway. The video guide definitely helps, and I'm handy, smart, and I work slowly to avoid careless mistakes. Working alone, it took me NEARLY FOUR HOURS over two evenings after work to get the unit assembled, installed and secured. As mentioned in other reviews, this unit produces a DULL VIBRATION through the wall that reverberates throughout my space - I find it loudest on the lowest speed setting but it's audible whenever the compressor is operating. Also, the ANTI-TIP BRACKETS - not mentioned in the instructions until after the unit is in place, making access to them VERY AWKWARD AND DIFFICULT. You should loosen and remove the very tight screws BEFORE placing the unit so that when it's time to extend the arms into your window track, you can easily tighten the screws and secure both arms in place. FOOTNOTES: Not all windows and windowsills fall into one of two categories. If you have an older home with older windows (which I do), you should be prepared for a less than perfect fit and to be creative with how you fill or cover any spaces around the unit once it is in place. I happened to have some foam weather stripping lying around which I've used to block the gaps around the edges. Yes to recommending this unit but if you're not handy, you might consider hiring someone who is to help with the installation. Hope my review helps!

This has to be the quietest air unit I have ever owned. I must admit when it was delivered, and I opened the box and saw all of the parts and the intricate assembly required. I thought to myself, if I had known this, I never would have ordered it. I went on YouTube for the installation video and it was extremely articulate and easy to understand. I think I spent about an hour assembling all of the sub assembly work to install this. If you one of those folks that likes to take it out in the winter, you may want to rethink your purchase. Beyond that, I think it's a great unit and I really like the ability to turn it on remotely via a Wi-Fi connection.

I bought this to replace an older window unit. Our home is very old(no central air). We usually run 2 units downstairs and 2 units upstairs. The left drain hole design is flawed, causes mold build up

The left and right drain hole located under the evaporator are not designed the same. The left drain hole is not leveled with the bottom of the evaporator pan, which causes water to build up and never get fully drained. The right drain hole does not have this issue. I followed the instructions so there is always a chance you get this issue. I will have to thoroughly clean my unit since its no longer sanitary, and smells horrid, what a hassle. *Video description: I slid a zip tie into the left drain hole and as you can see it is not touching the bottom of the pan. When I fully pulled the ziptie out, it made a snapping noise as it made contact with the bottom of the evaporator pan*
