The item has a switch which you can turn off/on. The power will last as long as the batteries are still good (and can be replaced). Q: How lightweight is it? Just wondering how you keep it from blowing off your roof without having to nail it down. New roof, don't want to do anything to harm it, plus I don't get along with ladders too well. Lol.
