$500 Stolen Through Fraud, Reported but Claim Denied
Extremely disappointed with American Express and the lack of protection provided for their gift cards. I received a $500 American Express gift card and accidentally entered a URL with one letter missing while attempting to access the card website. The website I landed on was a fraudulent site designed to look almost identical to the legitimate website. Believing I was on the correct site, I entered the gift card information. Shortly afterward, I realized what had happened and discovered that the funds had been fraudulently taken. What is most upsetting is that I contacted American Express within approximately 30 minutes of the fraud occurring and immediately reported the transaction as unauthorized. I explained exactly what happened and did everything I reasonably could to report the theft as quickly as possible. Despite this, my fraud claim was ultimately DENIED, and I am now out the entire $500. I understand that American Express did not create the fraudulent website, but when a scam website can so closely imitate the legitimate gift card website and criminals can drain a card almost immediately, I believe there should be better safeguards and fraud protections in place for consumers, especially when the fraud is reported almost immediately. What more is a customer reasonably supposed to do? I recognized the fraud, contacted American Express within roughly half an hour, reported the unauthorized transaction, and still received no protection. A company as large and established as American Express should have stronger procedures for situations like this. Consumers purchase and receive these gift cards because they recognize and trust the American Express name. I certainly did not expect that if my card information was stolen through a convincing phishing website and I reported it almost immediately, I could still lose every dollar with apparently no meaningful recourse. $500 gone. Fraud reported within approximately 30 minutes. Claim denied. Based on my experience, I would never purchase or recommend an American Express gift card. If you receive one, be extremely careful when accessing the website because if your card information is compromised, you may discover that the protection you expected from the American Express name simply isn't there.

huge scam
I bought this card to originally make some online purchases, when I notice, it's a huge scam, the card keeps declining, even though I put the right info in! The worst part, is that I can't return it. I tried before, but not even CLOSED cards can be used. I checked the balance online it says it has a $50 balance, but it doesn't do dog poop.

DISREPUTABLE card issuer!!!
NOT Target's fault, unless you consider the fact that they are selling scam cards from what should be a reputable company. I made the misake of grabbing this lie of a gift card when I had intended on purchasing a VISA for my son. Where the CVV should be on the front, it appears to have been scratched off and the center of the bar code in the back is missing, like the one pictured in another review. We can not even get through the automated customer service line without a CVV. Please stop selling these, Target, or hold your vendors accountable!

Scam Card
Bought this today and was going use to buy o line products but when I opened the packaging, the three digit and four digit were both scratched! I thought I did something wrong when opening the card package but the scratch was permanent. I doubt I'll get my money back. TARGET, you need to take down the cards off the shelves now!

I got two of these for my birthday and the security code on BOTH of them were scratched off. Tried to swipe it at a gas station and both had no funds on it! SCAMMED!

Worst purchase
It doesn't work, worst customer service, they said they will send a replacement, but it's not true, can't use it to do purchases online and also in stores, I wasted my money and still the extra pay fee for the gift card and not getting a refund. I I have to rate this card I will give minus zero start because is the worst.

Purchased this as a gift and it did not work. Target does not give refunds and the American Express kept saying they would send a replacement and they did not. They said they would activate it and they have not.

Do Not Buy Target Amex eGift Cards!
Purchased one of these cards for online purchases. After it was declined twice with no explanation, I called Target who will not provide a refund, nor will they support the card after the sale. American Express claims that though the purchase was declined, the 10 cent hold placed on the card will prevent me from using it for 8 days until the hold is released. This card is useless and will tie up your funds. Keep your money! Avoid this at all cost!
