Q: Can this be used in a gas stove?

submitted by Leslie - 4 years ago
  • A: The Bialetti Moka can be used on a gas stovetop. If you have any other questions please reach out to a member of our team and they would be happy to help you. We can be reached M-F 9AM-5PM at 1-800-421-6290. Thank you!

  • A: I've used this exact model on a gas stove for a few months now. As someone who used to work in a chemistry lab, I sometimes cringe at the energy inefficiency. As the ring of gas (or electric coils, or anything else) will be way to big for the bottom of a moka pot, this or even the larger sizes. But it does work perfectly well by setting the pot near the EDGE of the ring. Just make sure that the handle isn't over the flame so you can pick it up without burning your fingers. In an ideal situation, I suppose I'd get one of those wire grids woven with heat resistant material (used to be asbestos) to spread the heat of the flame evenly. But even so, it's unlikely that something made of aluminum would need this, as the metal is already a more effective heat sink than steel.

Q: Will this work on a glass stove top? or will the coffee brewing process be affected negatively?

  • A: Hi there, yes the Moka stove top maker can be used on a glass stove top.

Q: Is this made in Italy?

submitted by Bren - 6 years ago
  • A: No - the one I received says Made in Romania

submitted byKev Ivris - 5 years ago
  • A: The upper chamber of this model does NOT have the Bialetti octagonal shape as stated in the description. The model is called "Moka Cafe" and is made in Romania under license from Bialetti. The Italian made model is "Moka Express" and has "Made in Italy" engraved on the lower chamber.

Q: Does this work on induction stove top?

submitted by Zellah - 2 years ago
  • A: Sorry, it does not. Although Bialetti has and "induction plate" that will make it work. You can contact us at alice.bolognini@bialettigroup.com, if you'd like to order one.

Q: There are no instructions. The one with Assembly has the step 2 process as step 2 and 3. Where does the espresso go? Do you pour boiling water into the top container? It's very confusing.

submitted by Tami - 4 years ago
  • A: Tami, we are very sorry you did not receive directions in the box; this is something that should be there. Your Moka comes in 3 pieces the top chamber, the funnel, and the bottom water chamber. The Moka acts similar to a percolator where you will pour the water in the bottom chamber; you will add your coffee grounds to the “basket” in the funnel. Place the funnel into the opening of the bottom chamber and screw the top chamber on. Put this on your stovetop and a few minute later the coffee will boil into the top chamber. In addition, one this to note the Moka is not made for a fine grind espresso. The best bet would be a drip coffee grind, but do not worry it will be much stronger than a machine.

This thing is really small. If you’re looking for something to brew a single cup of coffee this is for you. It works well, but the size and the price are my biggest issues.

Not made in Italy

Lilium - 6 months ago, Verified purchaser
The description says twice that this is made in Italy. The moka pot I received is not the Bialetti Moka Express advertised in the description, but the Moka Cafe and is NOT made in Italy. Mine states it is made in Romania. The quality of this Moka Cafe is far below my larger Bialetti that I purchased in Italy years ago. It says, "Italian quality & design" on the bottom, and not "Made in Italy." Also, keep in mind that 3 cups refers to demitasse, which is 2 oz each. I'm disappointed Target has allowed this type of deception.

Coffee shops can’t compete with this! Legit so smooth and tasty I would want to drink it black and that says a lot as I’m a creamer lover! Cool on medium low heat and don’t pack the grounds down and you’ll be on your way!

Ava - 8 months ago
When I received this the top was not attached, and there's nothing to attach it. Really disappointed. It's still usable and I don't have anything else to make coffee out of, so I'll have to use it as a temporary solution. Just be aware to check before buying anyone else who's considering, as I just wasted my money and will have to get a new pot from somewhere else.

It saves counter space and makes good coffee. Great value. I bought this to make iced lattes, it makes the perfect strength. At first i packed the funnel with as much coffee grounds as possible, but now i only add 2 Tbsp to the funnel since i use the whole brew for one serving. Make sure all the pieces are assembled properly before putting it on the stove, or the coffee will shoot out and spill everywhere. If you’re making coffee for your multiple people, buy a bigger one.

Disappointed - 11 months ago
After one use, the lettering on the moka pot wiped away, similar to a dry erase board (see picture). I know several people with this brand of moka pot who said that was not normal. The pot itself works well, but the quality is not what I would expect from Target. Why is this the only vendor where I've heard of this happening?

Bialetti stovetop espresso makers are the best - this particular one is perfect. These espresso makers are made in Italy. Some tips to follow are 1) use medium to medium high heat, never high heat; 2) always clean with water only, no detergents.

There’s definitely a technique to making espresso in a moka pot. Look up videos on YT before giving it a try. I bought this because I was so sick of my nespresso machines breaking. This saved me! Love it! Give it a shot. Also it’s not the OG one from Italy. It has a round top. Keep that in mind too.

this is a real review not with intent to be malicious. I've had issues since I purchased it. it's way to small to fit on my burner of my brand new home, this morning I was rushing to make coffee for work this things spills over on its own and I had on medium heat. coffee got. All over my walls in behind my brand new Samsung gas range. I was so annoyed. I wanted to throw that thing over my neighbors fence anyways it's also inconvenient because you really never know when the coffee is done. You might hear it bubbling and I think that's the time that you're supposed to take it off but to be totally transparent I have other electric mocha espresso machines that are way better. Maybe it's either the coffee that I'm using. I'm using illy , This thing it's just not worth the hype and it's definitely not worth me cleaning behind. It's very annoying because I have to wait for it to cool off for me to undo it and then wash it.... Maybe if it was a little Wider at the bottom, then it can possibly be a universal fit for most gas ranges or electric at that.

Love the moka pot! I’ve been searching for a fast, low effort method of making a stronger-than-drip coffee because I love lattes, but hate espresso machines because the fritter is never good enough. And why have a giant machine just for the espresso part? Enter moka pot-about 2.5 minutes and I had 3 espresso-like shots (no crema but that’s ok for me since I’m making a latte). Then I use a separate frother-voila! Saves me $6 on lattes!
