Q: 1st attempt out of the box and the handle started on fire. The base had water, the flame wasn't high enough to meet the edges. I'm saddened that this little pot died so tragically! I'll try again with another. Anyone else experience this?

submitted by PeachyHans - 5 years ago
  • A: Hi PeachyHans, I am sorry to hear about your first experience with the Moka. The handle is plastic and should not be exposed to high heat source. Please make sure you place the whole base on the stove, over a medium flame (heat source) and make sure the handle is pointed away for the flame, or to the side of the burner. please contact our customer service department with your experience. 800-421-6290

  • A: As Bradshaw mentioned, try to keep the handle away from the heat source as it is plastic!

submitted byBialetti America - 2 years ago
  • A: I think the key is to place the base of the moka pot off the center of the burner rather than in the center of the burner. And also, place turn the handle to the outermost aspect of the burner top so it doesn't melt or get too hot.

    submitted byPartyof5 - 4 years ago
  • A: Wrap a good deal of aluminium foil on the handle to reflect the heat.

    submitted byRahul_Does - 3 years ago
  • A: Boil the water first, add it to the pot with the coffee and put it on medium heat until you hear it finish.

Q: Can you use it on an electric stovetop, or does it have to be a flame-gas top?

submitted by mlw50 - 8 years ago
  • A: I use mine on a gas stove - but I see no reason why it wouldn't work on an electric stove...my assumption is as long as water is brought to a boil - it will work.

submitted byDeb - 8 years ago
  • A: Yes, you can use it on an electric stove top.

submitted bythisisthis - 8 years ago
  • A: Yes you can use it on an electric stovetop! :)

  • A: I use ithe on my electric stovetop all the time - love it!

Q: is this made in china ? does it work on induction

submitted by carshone - 3 years ago
  • A: Hi, Carshone - the Bialetti Moka 6 cup Express Espresso Maker is made in Italy. There is an induction plate available on Target.com that does allow for induction use. Thank you!

Q: Is It dishwasher safe?

submitted by Alejandro - 4 years ago
  • A: Wash/rinse it by hand with hot or warm water. I recalled in another web site NOT to use dish detergent. Confirm my comment with the included instructions.

submitted byPostino - 2 years ago
  • A: Hi there, no the Moka Express is not dishwasher safe. This should be washed by hand and hand dried to avoid oxidation. Hope this helps!

Q: Will this work on an induction stovetop

submitted by To be married - 7 years ago
  • A: I use it on an induction stovetop. It works well. Need to be careful not to drag the pot across the burner, though, so you don't scratch the glass.

submitted byjaneyq - 7 years ago
  • A: The Bialetti website says it is NOT induction safe. :(

Q: Assuming I can make iced lattes easily with this unit?

submitted by Terri R - 7 years ago
  • A: It is very easy, it only takes about 4 minutes.

submitted byCoffee lover - 7 years ago
  • A: It basically just makes hot espresso and then you can decide what to do with it after; if you want to throw it over ice and milk and make a latte.

submitted byanonymous - 7 years ago

Q: Does this come with a silicone gasket? A smaller moka pot I bought has it but this version doesn't. I'm wondering if the one I bought is missing the piece or if it is designed differently.

submitted by jakethedog - 1 year ago
  • A: They should have one included. You can buy replacement ones too.

Q: what kind of metal is this coffee maker ?

submitted by Carlymanuel01 - 2 years ago
  • A: Aluminum

Q: The instructions say, on the first use to make 3 cups of coffee and dump it out/don't drink it.. Seems like a waste of coffee. Does this really need to be done?

submitted by dereerised - 5 years ago
  • A: Yes, part or the moka is the “seasoning” of flavor, these 3 batches help start this. Also, as these items are shipped and moved before getting to you these 3 cup will help clean the insides. Please follow these steps. Hope this helps!

Q: Does it work to only make 1 or 2 espresso cups or do you have to fill it with water as shown in the video to get it to work properly?

submitted by NYRookie - 5 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. For the Bialetti Moka to work properly you will need to fill the water up to the valve as shown in the video. This will yield you 1 large mug of espresso or 6 espresso sized cups. If you have additional questions please reach out to a member of our team and they would be happy to help you. We can be reached Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM PST at 1-800-421-6290. Hope this helped!

Ordered this as a Christmas gift and received a used item in a damaged box. It has fingerprints and the wrap around the coffee pot was removed. Very disappointing. I hate making returns during the holidays and the app doesn’t let me return via Drive-Up either.

This is THE BEST EXPRESS ESPRESSO MAKER! It is so easy and fast to use for delicious coffee everyday! Cleaning is a breeze when all it takes is rinsing in warm water! I do miss my favorite Barista at the coffee shop I “USED” to go to, but making my coffee at home tastes so much better!

I bought the 6 cup moka pot many years ago and discovered it hidden in my cupboard. It still brews coffee like magic. If you find the coffee too bitter, you must learn how to brew the right amount of coffee and figure out the best time to remove the pot after it starts to brew. NEVER brew it with high heat!!!! 🇮🇹

Wow. I purchased an automatic espresso maker and this one. Immediately returned the automatic one! It didn’t produce as good of a flavor and it was also so complicated to work and clean. This one is SO easy to use/clean and I’ve been making my own macchiatos at home that taste better than the $7 coffee shop ones! Just buy an inexpensive handheld milk frother and you’re on your way to being a home barista!

To this day, my moka pot is one of my favorite purchases. I love the traditional feel of it, and I love having my coffee brewed freshly off the stove. As a college student, I require a lot of caffine, and this moka pot lets you pull some strong coffee! I personally use the lavazza ground espresso (also from target). Get a moka pot especially if you like espresso! I have no complaints.

Omg. This makes delicious coffee. It is not dishwasher safe because you are only supposed to rinse and dry it. It is easy to use and easy to clean. Perfect for a single coffee, or you can buy a bigger moka pot that holds more. Throw the Keurig out! 💗

The coffee from this maker is amazing - flavorful, aromatic, and topped with naturl oils. It's quick and no filters needed. A few grounds in the pot and cleaning can be messy. Not ideal for ceramic top stoves. Consider 12 cup more coffee and peace of mind.

I received a brand new fresh moka pot. It had metal shavings and machine oil inside. Must be washed several times, boil fresh water without coffee to clean. Take it apart completely. Make 3 pots of coffee throw them all out, wash completely then use the pot. I think they all have metal shavings stuck in oil if the pot is brand new.

Item had water damage inside it's retail box, and a closure tab was torn. Product delivery was delayed twice — with no notification, despite the app being right here — and was passed between UPS and USPS for no functional reason provided by anyone involved! Two day delivery became five, but I was still charged as if everything was fine. I might as well have ordered from Amazon, at this point! Kind of takes a lot away from the experience when you're sending a gift, like this was intended to be.
