Black Writer Icing - 1.3oz - Favorite Day™

I'm no baker but I like to have fun when hosting get togethers. Bought a gel icing kit but still needed black. Bought this and it was extra messy compared to my others (stringy) but I made do. Put the cupcakes in the fridge for the right. Come back in the morning to this. Really upset to have to put these out for my SuperBowl party.

This ink looks initally beautiful when used but within minutes it begins to spread turning whatever you designed into a avant garde blob of disaster. I made so many homemade cakes from scratch and decided to save time with this icing only to have everything ruined. Just make your own royal icing!

The consistency is too runny. Every time I used it, it would bleed and turn into a big blob. I would it imagine it to be very difficult to write legible letters. I gave two stars because I will say that it is pigmented.

I bought this for halloween cookies. I was a little disappointed that the icing was hard to squeeze out and offered little control. Maybe not great for beginners or detailed projects.

Maybe I got a bad tube, but it would not come out (and yes, I cut the tip of the tube off). I thought maybe it needed some warming up, but that made it too runny and it left a big black splotch on the cookie. I had to run out and get a Betty Crocker writing icing at the grocery store because this one was completely useless. I've never had this issue, but I usually buy the Betty Crocker one.

Awful consistency. Says ready to use. I did massage it first to mix it thinking mehhhh it’s been on a shelf in the store for a while… nope didn’t help either tube. Started out super dry and then just leaking black watery icing after that…. I even tried with the second tube sticking a toothpick in to try and get the dry part to mix better…. 🤦🏼♀️

I got two of these, they were so hard to squeeze out and then they just let a bunch of black liquid out all over. I thought the first one may have just been defective so I opened the second one just for it to happen AGAIN. It says “ready to use” nothing about have to shake before using to make it make sense as to how it came out in the completely wrong consistency.

This terrible. It would not come out of the tube easily, even after warming it in water. It was completely unusable

Horrible doesn’t write well at all

Such a waste. Even with a steady hand, evenly distributed pressure, and some experience decorating baked goods this icing comes out so clumpy. The color also bleeds so once you do get your design right it still turns into a mess.

Bought this to draw the eyes on my daughter’s unicorn cake. She was so proud of it because she had decorated it herself. Put it in the fridge and when we came back, the eyes and mouth had completely run, making it look like it had cried while wearing gobs of mascara. She was devastated. I usually love Target products, but this was so bad.

Not something I thought I'd write a review on. Last year for my sisters birthdays he asked me to decorate it a certain way and she had gotten the better crocker version that worked great. She asked me to do the same thing this year and I decided I'd try this 1 since I didn't think you could get this wrong. It was terrible to work with super thick, didn't come out right so it was hard to squeaze out, thankfully the design she wanted it played into the wonkyness of the design but I'll never use it again!! If you're wanting to actually design or write anything accurate DO NOT use this!!

It was too hard to draw lines as the flow was not fine. However managed to draw lines. But the color started to bleed on the white icing . Very disappointed. Did not expect high end quality. But the purpose of buying it not achieved. Wasted money.

These are trash. Does not write. It’s too sticky

These bled all over place the next day. Made cupcakes last night and this morning I went to take them to a party and they look awful. I'm in tears, they ruined my hard work.

This was like pure liquid. Made a total mess of our Halloween cookies. The kids said it tasted gross too.

This is like cookie icing in a tube. I'm very new to decorating baked goods and first tried the transfer method of laying wax paper over an image, outlining it in icing, then flipping it onto the cold cake surface, lightly running over the lines, and removing the wax paper. This black icing hardened too quickly to make the transfer happen and left me with a really spotty image. I scraped off the layer, added more frosting, chilled the cake again, and then tried with the red glitter gel that target sells. The gel stays sticky and doesn't harden so it works really well for transfers. Once I transferred the image with the red glitter gel I took a paint brush and went back with the black icing to do some outlining which worked out decent on top of the gel. It wasn't as easy to paint it on the frosting directly but I got the fine lines I had wanted painting the black icing on top so of the gel. I wish there were a black gel tube, maybe there is at other stores, but for writing and fine lines, gel is a lot easier. If you are decorating with big bold lines this black icing will be good. You may have luck too if you can really chill your base frosting and go in with the black icing on a paint brush quickly before the frosting starts to warm back up.

This is not easy to write words with fine lines. The icing doesn’t come it very smoothly; even with a very steady hand it was tough to use. The icing also settles and expands over time which made my lettering almost ineligible.

Great for holiday cookie decorations! Easy to use and great quality.
