The BRAZIL coffee maker incorporates the BODUM motto beautifully: good design doesn't have to be expensive. After all, we want to give everybody a chance to brew an excellent cup of coffee in a green way: just add course ground coffee, hot water and press. No paper filters or plastic cups are needed. A: I have been using pre ground bagged coffee just fine. I only get a few grains get past the filter. Most grocery stores that sell whole bean coffee also have a grinder nearby.

A: Thank you for your question! While any roast or grind of coffee will work in the BRAZIL French Press, we recommend using coarsely ground beans. Finer grinds can lead to a more bitter taste and allow more sediment to pass through the stainless steel mesh filter. A: Thank you for question! No, we do not recommend trying to remove the glass carafe from the BRAZIL French Press, due to the design of the handle being hooked over the lip of the glass. Attempting to remove the carafe could result in breaking both the handle and the carafe. The entirety of the BRAZIL is dishwasher safe, however, so you can feel free to place the carafe inside the frame into the dishwasher. A: Thank you for your question! For French press coffee, the ideal water temperature is actually just below boiling — between 194–205°F. While boiling water is commonly used, it can lead to over-extracted, more bitter coffee. Letting your water come to a boil, then waiting a minute or two before brewing, will help you achieve an optimal flavor. Hope this helps!

Good but Not as Good
I first bought this version around 2017 and used it almost daily for years until it got a big chip in it. I just repurchased and was very disappointed to find this little black plastic piece no longer unscrews, it’s just fused on. This makes cleaning the filter more difficult but even more annoyingly, you can’t replace the filter anymore!! I replaced the mesh filter on my previous version twice, extending the life of the product. Still a good French press but this is a bummer.

DANGEROUS - do not buy
DO NOT BUY. Broke at six months of gentle, proper and infrequent use. The glass carafe snapped at the point where the plastic handle curves around to attach to the glass. When the big chunk of glass (3”) popped off, it caused hot coffee to spill out over me (torso/hip) and my counter. Design flaw to have the handle put a point of continual pressure on the glass carafe. Now I’m burned. DON’T BUY.

Full of grains, weak and bitter coffee
Coffee was always weak and bitter. I have no idea why because I used high quality coffee that tastes amazing in other coffee makers. Almost half of the grains get into your coffee too. It took me about an hour to get all the grains out using a make-shift strainer with a coffee filter over my cup. It was a huge mess too.

Great product, greater pricepoint
So, I see a lot reviews complaining about quality. In my personal opinion, if you use this device with a little ease and handle it with care, it is super durable and convenient to use. I’ve been using mine now 3 months, haven’t had a single issue with it at all. The only thing I would mention is, any coffee that is ground too finely, will pass through the mesh screen and may result in your coffee being slightly gritty or chalky. Otherwise a great product for the price point.

who designed this??? having the handle stick out so you can’t easily put the lid on is just insanely poor designing. it makes it very clunky to use. the lid also doesn’t stay in place while you push down the plunger. i know it’s cheap but come

The handle is designed to affix to the top of the carafe and secure it to the base both sleekly and securely, and the lid includes a small divot that nestles under the handle so it stays snug on top of the carafe. While pressing the plunger down, if the lid becomes displaced, simply push it back into place; this will not interfere with the plunger’s ability to depress fully and properly filter your coffee. Broke two different times after ~ 15 uses.
I have purchased this item twice, and the metal plugger stem broke where it attaches to the filter on both purchases, after ~15 uses. I will not purchase this item again.
