I got this one after reading a review of food processors. It’s good and got it in sale, but I realized the new version has an attachment for dicing, which is what I intend to use it more for. (The blade it comes with tends to over process and you end up with mush too easily instead of chopped veggies.) Also no where to keep the slicers like the new one. Considering switching completely because - let’s be honest - who wants to spend time handwashing when the goal is to save time?

I just received my new Breville Sous Chef 12, I tried it with onions and carrots, it works great and is a lot quieter than my old clunker. My only question is it did not come with the accessory storage container for all the parts. I tried to look up where to buy one but couldn’t find anything. Is there one? I would love to be able to store all the parts in one container, please help!

The BFP660 doesn't come with a storage container. But you can purchase the one that comes with the BFP680 through our website here: https://www.breville.com/ca/en/products/food-processors/parts-accessories.html/BFP680
700 W only, not 1000

I received the Breville Sous Chef 12 a few days ago. The motor is supposed to be 1000 Watts, which is why I bought it. I needed more power. However, at the bottom of the machine it says it is only 700 Watts. This could explain why it can only handle 4.5 cups nuts. My old 500 W food processor handled 3 cups at a time. I feel utterly betrayed and disappointed.
1 reply from Customer Service team - 5 months ago
Thank you for your review. The BFP660 has 1200 watts. Since the unit is the same for all of North America, the engineering team decided use one sticker for all of the regions. Mexico has a specific compliance requirement that the wattage rating is shown on the label. This is not a requirement in the US or Canada, so the team went with the wattage in Mexico. The 700W para Mexico label that you see there is just for Mexico, and the US and Canada wattage will be the full value listed on the product page. We do apologize for any confusion this has caused.

I am not sure how I prepped food without the Sous Chef 12. The size is perfect and I love it for shredding my cheese, prepping veggies, and chopping up chocolate bars for my cookies. It’s thoughtfully designed as are all Breville appliances and is so well made.

I so love my machine although, upon reflection, wish I had spent the extra money and purchased the 16 cup. More features, etc. I erroneously purchased the 16 cup storage box and discs and, to my great dismay, found they would not fit my 12 cup.
Magic at most tasks. Meh at shredding cheese.

My favorite thing to make is chopped salad using the slicing disk: veg toppings sliced at 4 on the dial, lettuces sliced at the widest opening. Give it all a quick mix by hand and it’s ready to go. I always used to make tuna salad by hand and thought “why not?” with the regular chopper blade and pulsing to chop/mix—it’s the best-tasting tuna salad I’ve ever made. Was surprisingly disappointed by the cheese shredding disk. I make homemade pizza regularly and freshly shredded cheese is a must. I don’t know if this machine has too much speed/power but it didn’t do nice shredded cheese like my 25 year old workhorse did. It actually got jammed at one point—I think the power of this machine is too much for pliant cheese. Got lots of cheese bits and pulverized blobs along with the shreds. I might try putting the cheese in the freezer for a half hour to firm it up a little before shredding and see if that helps. Used the widest opening on the slicing disk to make quick work of redskin potatoes to cook for mashed potatoes on Easter. Can’t believe the amount of time it saved. So far I love this machine with a surprising disappointment in the cheese-shredding capabilities—that should be a no-brainer basic task for a food processor.

The first time I used it for grading cheese, some of it got caught between the disk and the lid and stalled the motor. Upon inspection of the bottom of the motor unit I noticed that it only had 700 Watts instead of the advertised 1000 watts.

Having bought the Sous Chef 12, it works great, although there is no attachment that can be bought extra for a French fry potato cutter or Julienne cutter! Unfortunately, both are not available to fit the Sous Chef 12. I would look forward to purchasing those attachments should they become available for the Sous Chef 12.

Bought it +3y ago and still works perfectly. I recommend! I have one concern though… I would like to clean up inside the handle however I didn’t find a way to separate the 2 sides of the handle (the black/ grey and the transparent). How do you recommend to clean it up? Thanks !

I've had this food processor for 4 years, and it has worked rather well. We've taken good care of it, hand-washing the plastic. Today a piece of plastic broke off the bottom of the bowl - a piece of the guide that locks the bowl in place for use. As I read other reviews, I see that this piece breaking is pretty common. It's really a shame, for the high price of this product, and after I followed good online reviews of it, I had thought it would last longer.

I have been using this for about 5 years and it has been a reliable food processor for all that time. Ample power and all the attachments have had a work out. The slicer is particularly useful as an alternative to a Madeline for potatoes.

Checked out reviews which were very positive so was the just released magazine Protégez-vous which praised the results and coincided with our results. We like its simplicity and results in chopping vegetables and salads. A minor inconvenience is cannot have accessories in dishwater but understand that soap used is quite agressive. Very pleased with quality of construction and results.

I splurged on this for my husband's birthday a couple of years ago because I wanted him to have a really nice food processor. I like the power of this food processor, but there are unfortunately several draw backs. The top of our bowl broke almost immediately, I think we had used it twice. He actually glued it together because he had a hard time going to purchase a new top so quickly. Recently the large food pusher has also broken and won't stay together. It's a disappointment with such an expensive product. The other draw back is cleaning, there are a lot of nook's and crannies and parts to take apart and hand wash. We find ourselves avoiding using it sometimes if the cleaning process is going to take longer than the time saved. Unfortunately I can't recommend this because it doesn't seem sturdy enough for the cost.

Breville makes reliable products. I have an expresso machine that is a work horse and I expect the Sous Chef food processor will be the same. I'm happy with its performance so far. I'm particularly impressed with the ease in which you can change the thickness of the slicer. It has been a time saver and has upped my cooking game.
