The same consistency and usefulness as water

Not sure how they call this a lotion. It should be called Calamine water, because that's the consistency, and that's all the effect it had on my mosquito bites. I could have just ran some tap water over them and it would have done as well as this. Thankfully it's not much money, but don't waste yours.
Good stuff- there's a trick to applying since it;s thin

I just bought my 2nd bottle. I appreciate that it's unscented. And that it does exactly what it's supposed to do. Yes, it is very runny. But there is a trick to applying it so it doesn't go everywhere. Get a cotton round (used for removing nail polish, etc) Shake the bottle. Then gently pour some in the round. Wait about 30 - 45 seconds - then wipe on the area and it'll apply nice and chalky. I'm serious. That's all that's needed for a nice chalky application without it running everywhere. It does what it's supposed to. Once applied, it stays on all day or night until washed off. Definitely recommend it. It's very soothing and a great deal, too.

I’m confused by the high average rating. It’s pink water that rolls off your poison ivy blisters and causes NO relief. And it doesn’t matter how long you shake it. I couldn’t get it to adhere to my skin so I tried soaking a bandage in the liquid (not lotion) also to no avail. I used some at a friends house from CVS and it was heavenly relief. Then I bought this. I wish I could rate it 0 stars.

Didn’t realize this was a liquid vs a lotion. It took away the itch just like lotion did though. It burned both mine and my boyfriend’s skin, but that could have been based on the rash we both had.
Great Formula, Tricky Application

I really appreciate that this calamine lotion is fragrance free, but the formula is surprisingly thin and runny. If you try applying it with your fingers, it tends to drip and get everywhere. I’ve had much better luck using a cotton round or cotton ball to dab it on instead.

My toddler gets mosquito bites and then scratches them like crazy. Can’t even sleep at night. He really dislikes any kind of cream or ointment so when I tried this, it was perfect. It dries fast and stopped the itch for good. You have to apply it with a cotton ball or qtip. Don’t rub it in, just let it dry. Worked great for us!

This is the thinnest calamine lotion I've ever come across. Like straight water. AND the bottle leaks when you're shaking it. It works okay but not as well as other brands.
This is what calamine lotion is

All the one star reviews on here are very misleading. Calamine lotion is supposed to be watery. I was worried by the reviews because I thought maybe it was too watery? No. It's fine, and exactly the way it should be and what I remember using as a kid. I went ahead and bought it for my son for mosquito bites and application was exactly what I was expecting and hoping it would be. You put it on a cotton pad or ball and dab it on the area which will be a chalky pink color, and that's how it sits. It's not supposed to be poured on, and it does not get rubbed into the skin.

This should be called calamine water, not calamine lotion. Even after shaking the bottle thoroughly this product is just pure liquid and very annoying to apply. It just drips right through your fingers, leaking, spilling everywhere. It’s very thin watery consistency barely even coats your skin. Terrible product.

Good lord, people. Yes, it is watery! It's supposed to be. Yes, it's called a lotion but it is not thick. It's not supposed to be rubbed in. It has been the tried and true, gold standard, for probably hundreds of years, for mosquito bites and especially for poison ivy. Here's how you use it: With the lid tightly closed, shake the bottle. Open the cap (they have improved this with the smaller hole cap!). Take a cotton ball and tip the bottle to put a small amount on the cotton. CAUTION The substance is watery. Dab the calamine unto the bite/rash and let dry completely. If you have a chalky pink spot/patch covering the bite/rash you have used the product correctly. It is the best otc remedy for poison ivy because it helps to dry up the oil that causes poison ivy to spread. If you use it in the way I have described, it will be far less messy and far more effective. Additionally, for kids in particular, seeing the pink on thier itchy bumps can keep them from scratching so much and gives them a visual that there is something on their skin that is helping. Give it a try and get some relief!

I definitely should have read the reviews first. Someone on Reddit mentioned this brand for it's basic ingredients and lack of camphor. It was SO liquid, I didn't feel like I could get good coverage with a cotton ball application.
