Q: Does this store date/time information?

submitted by GS - 1 month ago
  • A: Hi, thanks for reaching out about Camp Snap Screen-Free Digital Camera. Yes—but with important caveats. The Camp Snap Screen‑Free Digital Camera does store date and time information in photo metadata, but how well this works depends on the camera version. ✅ Newer versions (v103 / v105 and later) Yes, date & time are stored correctly in the photo metadata. These versions allow you to set the date and time directly on the camera, even though it has no screen. Retail listings and specs confirm “controls for date and time” on current models. Photos include a proper “Date Taken” timestamp, making them easy to sort in Lightroom, Photos, Google Photos, etc. If you have any additional questions, we welcome you to contact MyTGTtech at 833-848-8324 every day, between 7am-11pm CST.

    Outstanding photos

I bought this to save memory space on my phone. I took it to a NASCAR Race. I took identical photos one with my phone, one with my Camp Snap... To my amazement, the Camp Snap took a better photo of a cool moonlit sky. Overall, I am pleased!!!

Fun, but not the right look for me.

Okay, there is a lot of good and some bad here, and I’ll start with the good. It’s a super fun camera to shoot with. Incredibly light, compact, and surprisingly durable. And unlike my Flashback v2, you can just snap, snap, snap to your heart’s content. There are no artificial limits. So it doesn’t feel contrived. It feels fun. I wish the lens were offset to the other side, so my fingers didn’t get in the way, but these are little ergonomic quirks and I quickly learned to accommodate them. In terms of the experience of taking photos? It’s easy to see why it’s such a hit. The bad? The images just aren’t very appealing. In fact… they’re so questionable I genuinely find it curious that the camera has become as popular as it has. And my camera is the latest v105 version, so no excuses. Unlike the Flashback, which creates warm, rich, emotional images pretty much every time, the photos I get out of the Camp Snap have more of a… low-grade digital feel. If the goal is to generate output that reminds people a bit of old disposable film cameras, they have missed the mark by a wide, wide margin. Dynamic range is terrible, the images are poorly (and, weirdly, inconsistently) exposed, highlights are perpetually blown out, and there is ghosting, fringing, halos, and chromatic aberrations. The photos don’t look like they were taken on a disposable film camera. They look like they were taken on a flip phone camera from 2003. I showed some to a friend, which were taken in good light with the original supplied “classic” filter, and he said: “What are those? Screen grabs from a security camera?” After playing with all the various filters to no avail, and even having a go at making my own through the Camp Snap “custom filter” option on the website, I was losing hope and planning to give the camera away. But as a last report I ordered a couple third-party filters (from Camp Shades) and installed them. BLAMMO. That changed everything. Don’t get me wrong, the limitations of the sensor and the general lack of warmth are still here, but with the “Ultra” filter from Camp Shades the images I get out of the camera now are much closer to what I was hoping for originally. And because the little Camp Snap is SO FUN to shoot with, now that I get images I kinda like? I’m shooting it a lot more and it sits happily alongside my Flashback v2. In short? It’s a brilliant idea let down by the images it produces. And none of us want sharp, modern optics and sensors in a camera like this, but we DO want warm, rich, emotional images that remind us of classic film photography. And even with professionally made aftermarket filters, the Camp Snap just doesn’t produce those.

Perfect for kids going to camp!

Perfect for my kids at camp. Bought these for the whole family. Easy to use and captures great photos (from the few test shots). I recommend fully charging before camp as the battery was only 60% charged out of the box. Hope the kids take time to take some photos!

    Love this product!

I’ve been loving my Camp Snap camera so far! The photos I take on it have been getting so many compliments and it’s so lightweight and easy to carry around. I love plugging it in at the end of the day and getting the surprise of how things turned out. My husband has also surprisingly gotten so into using it that I may buy a second one for us! All in all, super happy with the product for the price point.

Big fan of it. Took this camera on an unplugged trip and it was great. Easy to use and fun! My only regret is not getting the next version up because I would like more filter options.

    Great experience

Camera exceeded my expectations. I love that o can pull it out snap a pic and put it back all while still staying in the moment because I’m not fidgeting with things! I actually had a spot on my sensor and the return process was super easy. I love the camera so much and the experience it brings I didn’t want to be without it for the 1-2 weeks it would take to return it and get a replacement. But, I know my photos are going to look even better without a big glaring black spot so I did it anyway!

I’m having so much fun with this camera

I was missing the days when taking a photo was intentional and not just swinging my phone around with the camera app open clicking away at everything. I’m enjoying slowing down and composing the single shot of a subject. The only thing I’m not totally crazy about is the shutter sound- I don’t like the noise but I keep it on the lowest volume so I know the picture took. I wish the shutter button was more of a physical indicator.

    Great for 3rd Birthday!

Got for my kids 3rd birthday! She loves taking pictures on my film camera, but that’s a lot of film ($)! This was the perfect find and she was immediately snapping photos around the house and took to the butterfly museum and couldn’t wait to see the pictures on the computer.

    Fun camera!

Everything marketed about this camera is spot on. It’s light, it’s cool looking (someone asked me about it when I took it to the zoo) and it’s as simple as it gets. I’ve only used it once, so my opinion could change, but the pictures themselves were sharper than I expected; the “film look” people likely want can’t be attained without a filter (I haven’t tried that yet) and when I plugged it into my phone, the internal date stamp was off by one year and about twelve hours. Can’t do anything with that (though on an iPhone you can select multiple photos and change the date/time of all of them), and, frustratingly, I had duplicates of every picture, which meant deleting half of them by selecting every other one. If you take a picture vertically, you’ll need to edit it and rotate it as it won’t process automatically. Altogether I like the camera and am excited to take it to a couple of baseball games and then find excuses to use it inside and see how it does without the aid of the afternoon sun.

    Must buy!

Love this! So easy to use! I love the look of the disposable camera but it’s so expensive to develop photos. This is a great option! Easy to import to my iPhone right away. Also kid friendly if you have a little photographer that you don’t want to give your cell to… 😏
