Q: Can you cook these in a skillet/fry pan? Or do you have to use an oven?

submitted by vikkr - 8 months ago
  • A: Hello! Thank you for asking! Here are some cooking instructions for the stove top: Stovetop: Heat skillet on medium heat. Brown the outside of the meatballs for about 5 minutes, turning occasionally. Then, lower the temperature to medium-low, add ¼ cup water, or enough water to cover the bottom of the pan, and cover for about 15-18 minutes until a minimum inside temperature of 165°F is reached. (For best results, cook until 185°F.) Stovetop with tomato sauce: Heat skillet on medium heat. Brown the outside of the meatballs for about 5 minutes, turning occasionally. Then, lower the temperature to medium-low, add about 12 oz. or 1 1/2 cups of tomato sauce, and cover for about 20-26 minutes until a minimum inside temperature of 165°F is reached. (For best results, cook until 185°F.) Thank you for choosing Carando and Smithfield Foods!

Very rubbery, like take out ground pork. Doesn’t taste “Italian” at all. Totally inedible. Not

Better than expected from a meatball snob!

I needed a quick Italian fix for a Sunday afternoon dinner, post Thanksgiving so I did not want to start cooking again. I liked the ingredients...no soy, and no gluten is a plus. I am a self-proclaimed meatball snob. I believe that the worst homemade can top a store bought (usually frozen).. They are usually so full of filler, salt and garlic powder, that it's just gross. I cooked them in the air fryer before added to some tomato sauce to simmer a bit. I was pleasantly surprised. They're kind of bouncy which is not a bad thing. Not too big, not to small. You can see immediately that there is no filler...all meat. Beef and pork... They are Abruzzese style afterall.(like me). I think I sense a hint of fennel, which I love but it may just be the porkiness. Ingredients say dehydrated parsley which I did not detect, but is a must in any Italian meat ball. I thought they were a tad overerly salted so I will take off a star for that. Price point was good for the quality I received. I will purchase again and maybe try the other varieties. Sure beats any frozen I've tried

styrofoam packaging was left attached to meatballs

The meatballs are very good, however, I had to scrape off the black styrofoam from each meatball after removing from the styrofoam packaging.

Great Taste - HORRIBLE Packinging

Like the title says - great taste but they NEED to be in a simple plastic bag - NOT this horrible plastic packinging. Difficult to remove without getting frostbite and leaving parts of it on the meatballs which then need to be scraped off. Also, not keen on the added chemicals to preserve the product. For the above two reason, I would not consider buying again until they are resolved!

Quick supper

I really enjoy your meatballs and cuts time in the kitchen. Love putting them in slow cooker with sauce for spaghetti and meatballs for supper. With that being said…when freezing them in their original container, I find from frozen, when taking them out of the tray, the styrofoam tends to stick to the meatballs and have to scrape it off. Will still continue to purchase them.I recommend if anyone else has this issue, when getting them home to take them out of original package and vacuum seal them before freezing.

Meatballs with chunks of bone

These meatballs have chunks of bone in the meat. I used to be a fan, no more. The quality has deteriorated!

I should have read the ingredients!

Package said Italian Style Meatballs. When I read meatballs, I assumed it would be made out of ground beef. These meatballs are made out of pork. It tasted like sausage to me and of course I don’t like Italian sausage. If you like sausage, you will probably love these as I have read through a good majority of the reviews. For those of us who want ground beef, this is not the meatball for you! One more comment: I found these to taste very salty.

Sausage balls. Just buy sausage

These are not meatballs. Yes ingredients state pork- no beef. But these things are horrendous, terrible. Dried up dense sausage balls. Made in oven according to packing directions. Do not buy.

Not meat balls

These are not meatballs!!! They are pork balls. Sausage balls. When you cook them they are rubbery. Don’t waste your money on them.

Just buy links

You’re better off buying Italian sausage - there’s not enough of a meat blend.

Convenience

These are a good quality meatball, but I only purchase them when I can get them on clearance. It is a good shortcut way if you don’t feel like making up from scratch and they are definitely a better quality than frozen..

Not for me

I wanted something quick and easy for dinner. Picked these up at the market, took them home, pan seared and placed in my sauce. I found them to lack flavor and the texture was rubbery. I will not be buying them again but it doesn't mean they won't be delicious to the next person.
