Q: I have same question that is asked but left unansweted - Does this waffle iron come coated in paraffin wax that needs to be washed off before seasoning? Please reply so that I can decide to buy.
A: Hello Sumi - Thank you for your Question! The vendor has confirmed there is no paraffin wax on our products. The factory uses Vegetable Oil for seasoning. Below are the Instructions to use this product: 1. Prepping the waffle maker for use: Please wash with soap and water and then thoroughly dry. Although the waffle maker is pre-seasoned, it will benefit to add extra layers of seasoning for optimal use. You can use any high temperature oil to very thinly coat the waffle maker, heating it for 15 minutes, letting cool and repeating. Over time, you may need to re-apply seasoning. 2. Preheat the waffle maker: Use caution and oven mitts when handling the cast iron. Cast iron cooks best when heated gradually. Preheat the waffle maker on low for about 8 minutes per side, or until small drops of water sizzles and evaporates when dropped into the maker. 3. Adding batter: Before adding batter and every time, add butter or oil to thinly coat each side. Pour batter into the center of the waffle maker, filling only the bottom - about a half cup. Don't overfill it, or the batter will ooze out. 4. Cooking time: Cook the waffle for at least one minute on the first side, then flip it over and cook for another minute, or until it's golden brown and stops steaming. You can check on the waffle after 2 minutes to see if it needs more time. 5. Removing the waffle: Carefully remove the waffle from the waffle maker using a fork or spatula. 6. Heating sources and other notes: This cast iron waffle maker can be used on a variety of heating sources including - stovetop, oven or open flame. However, please note that a grate is preferred to be used when on an open flame and cast iron works best when heated gradually. Again, it is important to use caution when handling hot cast iron and using heat protection is needed especially on an open flame. You can use a variety of batters in a cast iron waffle maker but Good & Gather, makes excellent batters for all types of uses. Hope this information is useful. Have a great day! - Eram!
