My black swimsuit is now like 50 shades of grey without all the fun. It takes forever and I mean forever to rub in, if at all. Even then, the white cast still transfers to ANYTHING you come into contact with (my poor dog) … you name it and it transfers, with very little hope of getting it off any porous surface. Positive side….It does work for the intended purpose. Thinking outside the box 🤔 Maybe it would hack well as diaper rash cream or a cool stencil design of any choosing? I burn very easily and the few nooks and crannies I somehow missed during the 20 minutes of rubbing are now rotisserie. So, now, I’m barely sun kissed with red armpits 😆. I’m very disappointed as the brand is well known and good. However, this product is a no go for me.

Hi There! Thank you for trying our CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Body Sunscreen Lotion. Depending on the formulation, chemical sunscreens may be easier to rub into the skin and are less likely to leave a white cast. Like mineral sunscreens, chemical sunscreens should also be applied 15 minutes before sun exposure, to effectively protect your skin from UV rays. Thank you for your feedback, we will pass this along to our team!

I've tried many sunscreens and never had one that was this bad. Impossible to rub in, feels gross on, and leaves a really bad white cast (and I am very pale, it made me look grey). I had to wash it off because it felt so gross.

Horrible! As much as I rubbed and rubbed this product in, it never blended into my skin. It remained on with a very obvious chalky looking residue. It was so bad I had to go in the ocean to rinse it off, and even then there was sunscreen that was clearly present afterwards. I’ve never had any issues with other Cerave products before purchase. Trust the other reviews for this product and save yourself the hassle of looking like a ghost.

This sunscreen does NOT rub in well. Whole family used it because a lot of us have eczema and we were fishing. No one got sun burned and my mother said her skin felt amazing. That being said, we all looked like ghosts. This sunscreen doesn’t wash off well and it doesn’t rub in or absorb ever. Don’t suggest with makeup use or if you want to look nice, but it won’t aggravate sensitive skin and it does work for sun protection. Personally, I’ll probably keep looking for a better option.

Hi there! Thank you for trying the Hydrating Sheer Sunscreen SPF 50 Body Lotion. CeraVe Hydrating Sunscreen is a 100% mineral filter sunscreen. Mineral sunscreens utilize titanium and/or zinc oxide particles to form a barrier that reflects the sun's rays away from the skin. Because the ingredients stay on the surface of your skin, a white cast can sometimes remain after applying the product. We suggest applying a small amount in the palm of your hands and rubbing them together. Then, apply to one small area at a time, rubbing well. The formula should apply easily leaving a lightweight, non-greasy feel. Keep in mind, all sunscreens should be applied liberally for sun protection. We hope you will continue using our products with great satisfaction in the future!

This will not blend into your skin at all. It is thick and stays white on top of skin no matter how much you blend (which isn’t easy since this is thick) and no matter how much time has passed

Ultra Fair Only

Oh man… as a skincare enthusiast, daily sunscreen wearer and Cerave loyalist, I REALLY wanted to love this sunscreen so much… but it simply isn’t great. I regularly wear mineral sunscreen, both alone and under makeup, so I am familiar with the idea of a “white cast” being apparent following the application of mineral UV filters on most skin tones. I am fortunate to have an ultra fair “porcelain” skin tone that is generally not impacted by this occurrence though. Of the eight (8) mineral UV lotions currently in my rotation, this is the only one that is obviously and LITERALLY leaves my face, neck and ears looking white and pasty once applied. No amount of rubbing, spreading or allowing time for this product to sit on the skin alleviates the obvious “white cast” issue. Wearing this over serum and moisturizer yields the same crusty result as wearing it on clean skin alone. Unlike other hydrating SPF 50 products at this price point, it is definitely not suitable for use as a makeup base or primer. Though this sunscreen does not meet my requirements for regular daily use, I can honestly say it DOES work well as a protective skincare product. This is the one I reach for on “no makeup” days when I am gardening and doing outdoor tasks during high UV times as well as those that require limited interaction with others. My skin never burns, does not become reactive, and always feels hydrated with no irritation after removing this sunscreen. If you are looking for a heavy duty sunscreen that provides skincare benefits and lasts in humid climates, this one works well. However, I can only recommend it in good faith with the knowledge it will not blend evenly or not be noticeable unless you are literally a ghost.

This is the worst sunscreen I’ve ever put on my body! It didn’t dry it left me so white that I was transferring onto my clothes and my fiancé was making fun of me calling me ghostie. It never dried I waited over 30 minutes and had to scrub it off of myself. I used the smallest amount I could and it wouldn’t spread or rub in.

Everyone that is complaining that they have a white cast apparently do not understand that you need zinc oxide and titanium dioxide in a sunscreen to be affective. That is what leaves a white cast - I will choose being a little pasty over skin cancer.

I LOVE this product. Ive been using this sunscreen everyday since 2020. My skin has never reacted to it and i have very sensitive and dry skin and it's so light weight you dont even notice it on your face. To anyone wondering how to get the white stuff off just apply it with damp hands and a damp face, then once it starts drying rub it in again and you wont see anything.

Can’t wait to be done, white streaks/hard to blend

3 out of 5 stars
Alex - 7 months ago

I only made the switch from the AM facial moisturizer with SPF to straight SPF because from what I’ve read, moisturizer mixed with SPF dilutes the sunscreen making it less effective. That being said, I’m not sure if it is because it is SPF 50 making it thicker but my god it does not blend in easily. I put lotion on my damp face (I spray rose water on prior) right before layering on the sunscreen to help it blend but majority of the time I’m left with white streaks. If the brand didn’t cost a decent amount, I would have switched by now. Maybe to a different brand- tinted moisturizer as I hear those blend easily. Since I started using it, I can’t wait to finish the bottle just to be done with it.

Some people give it one star because it leaves white film that can come off onto other things. But this stuff really works great. I usually burn but not with this stuff on. I'd rather look a bit goofy and not burn. Plus it seems much more waterproof than other products. When I get out of the water the 'whiteness' shows so I know where is still applied. I tend not to reapply that often and still not burn.
