Create your own clay bowls, jewelry, figurines and more without the need for a kiln with Air-Dry Clay from Crayola. This fine, natural craft clay air-dries to a hard solid — just shape your piece, then let it sit for a couple days to fully set. Once completely dry, you can paint your white clay creations with tempera, acrylic or watercolor paints to bring them to life with bold or metallic colors.
I bought this for my girl scout troop for a badge. The clay shrank as it dried, causing TERRIBLE cracks. I tried adding more clay to fill the cracks, wetting the clay to seal the cracks which helped and they were fine until the girls picked up their projects. The projects LITERALLY CRUMBLED IN THEIR HANDS. I had some very disappointed girl scouts. They worked very hard only to have their efforts tossed in the trash. If there is a way to get my money back, I totally would but I cant. Waste of time, money and effort.

Your troop's disappointment is absolutely understandable, Heather. We, too, are sorry to hear their Air-Dry Clay creations have cracked and crumbled. This definitely does not sound like the quality you would expect from a Crayola product, and your experience will be passed along to our Compound Team for inspection. If you could please contact us at Crayola.com/support, we would like to learn more and help make this right. Looking forward to hearing from you.
I worked with this clay product before and it does not dry fast so you've got plenty of time to modify the clay-work while taking breaks and so on. Yes, 24 hours is usually a guarantee for drying the item you've created so at least have one form completed before you add more clay or find some case to keep the air from drying completely. It does not present an awful or noticeable scent so it's great to work with a close-up. And when it dries, it's fun to paint and post on your desktop or shelf. I'd highly recommend that if you build something tall, that you input a "skeleton" or "spine" for that object unless you are a pro sculpture who does something else. This recommendation can save you from having such a beautiful item like a flower created and looking beautiful until it tips over and crumbles. Lastly, when adding separate pieces of clay, mold them together perfectly because the only flaw I allowed myself to be blinded to was the fact that the clay, when separate, doesn't connect well so when it dries and you try to sculpt shapes or designs, it may separate or break apart with enough pressure. Nonetheless, it is an excellent item and definitely worth the price!
So this was quite a lot bigger/hefty than expected. I am not sure why but I thought this would be a little bit more airy, like model magic, but it's full blown clay. Which means it's a bit sticky, messy and gets stuck in your fingernails lol. Still an amazing value and my kids love making stuff with it and admittedly, I had fun with it too.
