Crystal Hot Sauce was started in 1923 by Alvin Baumer who came to New Orleans after the Civil War. Alvin’s future father-in-law gave him a personal loan to buy a sno-ball syrup production company on Tchoupitoulas Street called Mill’s Fruit Products. Inside a drawer at Mill’s, Alvin stumbled upon a hot sauce recipe labeled Crystal Pure. Turns out, it was a recipe for success. A Louisiana favorite, made with fresh ground cayenne peppers. Controlled heat level keeps the accent on flavor.

Best vinegar based hot sauce
As far as vinegar based hot sauces go, this is definitely the best. It is super flavorful with a mild heat that compliments foods without overpowering. It’s great for cooking too. I always have this on hand and love the price at Target.

The best hot sauce
Not too hot, just right. Adds flavor and does not overwhelm the flavors of the dish. If you like mouth burning spicy hot, look elsewhere. We love Crystal hot sauce.
