Piece of trash spool head

Frustrated whipper user - 28 days ago

I just bought a 60v brushless weed whipper. The head used on it is the most useless yard tool I have ever encountered. I have done my lawn about 3 times, the plastic has already broken on the face. I have done nothing but regular residential use. Not sure what to do, the trimmer itself is great but this “quick load” spool head is an epic fail. It’s been a twisty mess to reload since day one, do better Dewalt

Love this trimmer and have used it for quite some time. 3-4 years now, but the trimmer head is a nightmare. I have a lot of Dewalt tools both corded and not, and this is by far the worse issue Ive ever gne through with a Dewalt product. It isnt the trimmer, its the head, but may as well say the trimmer because without the head working I have no weed trimmer.

Same as everybody. Head cap broke after a few uses. Where can I find a replacement part? Is there an option for upgrading this part or is this purchase part of the cost of maintaining this machine?

I use only one string trimmer on fourteen lawns. I even slide the head along the pavement when cleaning weeds along cracks. Two seasons it shows its wear, but it's still going strong. Loading the spool is so much easier that alternatives. And with the Dewalt string it's surprising how long one load lasts.

I wish I’d read these reviews sooner. My spool head also exploded, spinning plastic ninja stars. DeWalt! What’s going on here? Are you aligning with environmental guidelines and using biodegradable plastic? I’m still searching for a retailer that sells the replacement, can anybody help in Toronto?

I bought this towards the end of the weed-eater season last year. The original head had finally worn out after 4 seasons. “Quick-load, sounds good to me… not so much. First off, as others have remarked, this is far from the quality I expect from Dewalt. I own a hedge trimmer (works great), a leaf blower (works good except for a 5 minute battery life out of a 6amp), chain saw (a little gutless compared to gas but OK around the house) and a few drills/impact drivers (which brought me to freaky in the first place). This head drives me crazy. In addition to falling apart quickly, the string wraps around the spool and binds, and now the bump feed doesn’t feed. Your engineering team gets a big FAIL on this one. I’ve stuck with Dewalt over the years, I liked the idea of using one pile of batteries for all of my tools. I’m reconsidering …

I really like the quick load but the cap only lasts for a few cycles and the WHOLE head has to be replaced when the ONLY THING WRONG is the cap wears through and trash gets inside and it stops working. The cap is not for sale by itself so you have to BUY the WHOLE HEAD!!!!!!!!

Having the same issue as many other owners - the cheap spool head cap. At least I got about 6 uses out of it before it broke apart. Given the use conditions, it should be built better and last much longer. Why can't I just buy the cap??

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had to replace the original one only after using 4 times and this one is already in bad shape.and will need to replace for the next season. Any warranty available ? This is unfortunate to buy DeWalt for its quality and to have to pay 30+$ every 4 months to keep the trimmer running

Awful

The spool head failed in just a few months. THere is apparently a spring hidden inside the head which enables the “clicking” function. I took the entire head apart to see if it could be replaced. After taking off the snap-on outer housing, there is the spool (removable), and the clicker - a two-piece platic unit with the female nut for securing to the trimmer head. There is no way to get the two-piece plastic unit apart to replace the spring or whatever mechanism lies inside. I’m a big DeWalt fan: I have the flexvolt combo tool/blower, chainsaw, and a drill & ratchet. All of these have been solid. This part, though, needs to be completely re-thought. I’m hoping there is an aftermarket/different trimmer head that will fit.

This worked great during the first use of about 30 minutes. About 10 minutes into the second use it started making a grinding noise. 1 minute into the third use, the plastic piece that snaps in completely sheared off. The line just flies right out and tangles around the trimmer head. Absolute junk! I have used Dewalt cordless tools for 25 years, daily at work. This is by far their worst product

I have a cordless trimmer (DCST922) and after 2 months of use, the head completely disintegrated (not mentioning the welt it left on my shin). Poor quality. To make matters worse, the replacement head is almost impossible to find anywhere. I am in the process of researching what other brand head can or will work and convert to something more durable and robust. DO NOT PURCHASE THESE TRIMMERS. THEY ARE JUNK.

Like the ease of use with the trimmer and loading the head. Problem is the head does not last. Plastic is very thin and the cover wears out quickly and then will not latch properly and keeps flying off. I own a lot of Dewalt product and it seems like the quality is starting to go down hill.

What’s wrong with these spool covers. Kind of dangerous to use they fall apart. I’m going on my 4th head in 2 years. I’m going to have a collection on spool heads with no covers. Need 3 covers and can not just buy the covers. Why can’t we just get the covers? I was told to buy a different weed wackier. I’m searching now.
