Q: Can this scale be stored upright or does it have to be stored lying flat?

A: It is not preferred to be stored upright. If it is, it would be best to before each weigh-in to recalibrate it for accuracy.

Q: Why is this model described as "thin" or "ultra thin" when it seems to have the same depth dimension as other Taylor weight scales ? Why is it important to be so thin ?

A: The Taylor stainless steel scale has a thinner profile than other stainless steel scales that utilize a piece of glass under the stainless. Our stainless is supported by an internal structure within the base itself, eliminating the need for the thicker, heavier glass piece. The overall scale dimensions are 12.2" x 12.2" W x 0.93" H. Q: I just bought this scale however, I can't even open the back to put the batteries in! Very poor design - I broke a nail clipper trying to pry it open. Any advice on how to open the battery compartment without breaking it?!

Inconsistent
After reading the instructions and learning how to clear the scale before every weigh-in, it seems like it gives me inaccurate readings from time. Sometimes as much as 1.5lb. Sadly it doesn’t seem to be consistent. Build quality is nice but wish it was more accurate and consistent.

Way off
It seems relatively accurate when I go to weigh myself as long as it is perfectly level (even the slightest slant and it is way off). When my husband goes to weigh my dog (together they weigh a little over 400 lbs) it fluctuates a lot and has been off by as much as 35 lbs. Since we were trying to track the growth of my giant breed dog this was completely useless. I don’t recommend this at all.

awful quality doesn't work
I got this scaled to keep track of my weight and it says it will weigh up to 440lbs and that is false as I weigh less than that and it makes a crushing sound when I try to stand on it and doesn't display my weight properly. What good is a scaled that you can't even stand on without it threatening to break so needlesss to say I will be returning this asap.

Item AND replacement were broke
This scale is great (in theory) but it arrived damaged. The top left corner was crushed in and the battery compartments were both just squished shut I couldn’t open them. I got a replacement, hoping they’d send me one that was NOT damaged, and the replacement arrived with the exact same corner broken in and battery compartments were squished shut, again. It works perfectly fine, you just have to literally pry the battery compartments open, and once you get the batteries in you have to tape it shut. Other than that, it’s a great looking scale, I was just suggest to buy it in the store instead of getting it shipped. Very disappointing.

Nice scale. Seems to measure accurately for me. I do think this was a returned product, because there were no batteries in the box. I took off one star for that. [BTW: One review said that the battery input sections were too small. You need to push the first battery all the way forward, so it can accept the second battery.]
