Book Synopsis

PRAISED BY THE LOS ANGELES TIMES

"Roger Hoffman's use of language brings the reader directly into the backrooms and battlefields where the story comes to life... his writing is unique and exciting and he should be taken seriously as a new writer."

- Los Angeles Times

What if one mistake in Dallas didn't just cost a man everything...

but pulled him into a covert war that could change the world?

Door Number Three is a high-velocity thriller inspired by real events-beginning in the shadows of Dallas politics and exploding onto the global stage of espionage, intelligence, and covert warfare.

It starts with an FBI corruption sting.

One arrest.

One decision.

One irreversible choice.

Facing prison, Roger Hoffman makes a move that alters the course of his life-forming an unlikely and dangerous bond with the man who arrests him: FBI Special Agent Don Sherman.

But when the trial ends, the story doesn't.

It escalates.

Hoffman is quietly recruited by the CIA and reborn under a new identity:

Michael Eastman.

Investment banker.

Trusted insider.

Covert operative.

His cover: a Las Vegas investment firm tied to a powerful casino empire.

His real mission: infiltrate global criminal and terrorist networks moving money across borders-networks that operate in the shadows, beyond the reach of conventional law enforcement.

From high-stakes boardrooms in Las Vegas to hostile territories in the Middle East, Eastman is pulled deep into a hidden war few will ever see-and even fewer survive.

He navigates a world of deception, where alliances shift without warning and every handshake could be a setup.

From the deserts of Iraq to the inner corridors of Iran, Eastman faces ambushes, rocket attacks, and targeted assassinations-working alongside elite intelligence operatives, including Mossad agents, in operations where failure is not an option.

At the center of it all is Crossroads USA-a covert CIA-backed front designed to lure terrorists and their financiers into the open, exposing the hidden flow of money that fuels global conflict.

What begins as infiltration becomes something far more dangerous:

A sophisticated intelligence network-embedded deep within Iran's infrastructure-capable of tracking, listening, and exposing threats at their source.

But in a world built on secrets, one wrong move doesn't just mean failure.

It means death.

This isn't just a story of espionage.

It's a story of transformation.

Of loyalty forged under fire.

Of trust built where betrayal is currency.

Of two men-once on opposite sides of the law-who become brothers in a war no one admits exists.

Inspired by true events.

Driven by loyalty.

Powered by courage.

Open the door.

The ride doesn't slow down.

His ability to channel raw feelings and emotions is so powerful that at times I laughed and at other times I cried. Hoffman's style of writing is unique and exciting-he should be taken seriously as a new writer."

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense & Addictive

Still reading, but I'm impressed by how immersive the settings feel, from Dallas to overseas operations. There's a steady sense of danger without it becoming over-the-top. I also appreciate how the author doesn't rush the transformation into Michael Eastman. It unfolds with enough weight to feel believable

5.0 out of 5 stars A Powerful Story of Loyalty and Transformation

I discovered this book randomly and didn't expect it to feel so grounded. Even with elements like CIA recruitment and covert missions, it doesn't lose its realism. The stakes feel personal, not just global. That made it easier to stay connected to the story.

Our book club chose this one on a whim and it sparked the best discussion we've had in two years. We spent more time debating what was real versus fictional than we did analyzing the writing, which is probably the highest compliment you can give a book inspired by true events. Highly recommended for groups.

Living in Dallas, I was skeptical at first, local political scandals don't usually make for great international spy thrillers. But Hoffman threads that needle perfectly. The corruption sting feels like the first domino, and watching every domino fall across three continents is a genuinely thrilling ride. One of my top reads this year.
