Q: Do I have to use the hair rinse if I use this soap as shampoo?
A: Due to the alkalinity of our soaps, they can leave a tangly look and feel. An acidic rinse not only conditions your hair but also can tamp down the cuticles in your hair and give it a smooth and silky after-feel. Rinsing with our Organic Hair Rinse (after rinsing the soap out) results in a spectacular look and feel! Just stir 1- 2 capfuls of the rinse into a cup of water, close your eyes, and slowly pour while massaging it into your hair. Keep a hand combing your hair until it feels entirely sleek (~30 seconds). Once your hair feels smooth, rinse the hair rinse out well and repeat this process if necessary. Additional rinses are typically only necessary in extra hard water conditions or for those with longer hair. Please note that washing your hair with our soaps can be a process for some people, as your hair needs to adapt to using a true soap since they are not a shampoo. It can take a fair amount of trial and error and tinkering with what works best for your hair. Additionally, using our Hair Rinse is optional, and not necessary to wash your hair with our soaps. However, we have found that most hair types do benefit from an acidic rinse. Lastly, we recommend checking out Lisa Bronner's blog, Going Green with Lisa Bronner, to find more, first-hand usage of our products. Should you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to let us know! All the best, Myrna

Q: Can this soap be used to wash dishes?
Q: Is this a blue bar soap
A: Thank you for reaching out to us! Rest assured that we do not add any dyes or colorants to our Pure-Castile soaps to give them an unnatural color or tone. It's important to note that as our soap consists of raw organic materials, variability is expected and causes each batch of Pure-Castile Bar Soap to be a bit different almost like wine. Each year has its own nuances, and crops can vary season by season. We’ve come to embrace some level of variability as it showcases the behavior of natural agricultural ingredients. This means that our bars can have a green, grey, or even amber color at times due to the oils used, however we do not purposely color the bars and do not match the colors of the labels to the scents of the product. Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us!

Q: Is this just for children or adults also? Also is this parabens free?
A: Thanks for contacting Dr. Bronner's! Our Baby-Unscented Pure-Castile Soap is simple & nourishing, fragrance-free and double the olive oil (compared to our scented varieties), making it a great option for those with sensitive skin and babies too (though not tear-free!). Additionally, we do not use parabens or any other preservative in any of our Pure-Castile soap products. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let us know!

Q: Is it Tear Free for babies?
A: Hi, Thank you for contacting Dr. Bronner's! Our Pure-Castile Soap is not tear-free. The “tear-free” characteristic is one that can only be achieved with synthetic non-soap detergents, and it’s not something we’re able to do given the simple formulation of our soaps. We do make a Baby Unscented Pure-Castile Soap, which is not tear-free, but is more gently formulated for sensitive skin. It contains no essential oils and has more saponified olive oil than the other scents, which makes it even more moisturizing. However, please take care to keep it out of the eyes, as all true soaps are irritating to the eyes. To read more about bathing babies with pure-castile soap, head over to Lisa Bronner's blog post, Using Castile Baby Mild Soap on Babies. (https://www.lisabronner.com/using-castile-baby-mild-soap-on-babies/) We do not recommend our Peppermint Pure-Castile Soaps for children under 3 years old as the cooling tingle from the peppermint essential oil is quite strong. Additionally, Eucalyptus Pure-Castile Soaps are only recommended for adults as the eucalyptus essential oil may cause irritation for babies and children. Should you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Q: Is this soap ok to clean new healing tattoos with?
A: Thank you for contacting Dr. Bronner's! We highly recommend Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Soap for both piercing and tattoo aftercare. The Tea Tree Castile Liquid Soap works best because the tea tree oil acts as a natural antiseptic and supports the healing process for both piercings and tattoos. We also recommend the Baby Unscented Castile Soap, which is great for sensitive skin. To read in detail about tattoo care with Dr. Bronner’s, visit our All-One! blog (https://www.drbronner.com/pages/best-soap-for-tattoos-castile-soap-tattoo-aftercare) Our Unscented Organic Magic Balm is great for healing new tattoos and is an excellent alternative to the petroleum-based ointments that are sometimes used. After a tattoo is fully healed, our Magic Balm can be used to “shine up” a tattoo periodically—the balm lasts longer than lotion because it stays on the surface of the skin longer. The skin feel is that of an oil-based salve rather than a water-based lotion, but it still makes your skin feel wonderfully soft. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

Q: Is this product antibacterial?
A: Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Bronner's! Soap that is labeled “antibacterial” means that active antimicrobial ingredients have been added to it. At this time, none of our soaps or cleaning products contain these specific ingredients; therefore, we do not label them as “antibacterial.” However, the US Food and Drug Administration published a report indicating that soap and water are just as effective at mechanically removing microbes as antibacterial soap is at killing microbes. Also, keep in mind that antibacterial soap can also kill good microbes along with the bad, often containing known toxins such as triclosan. For these reasons, we believe our soap is safer and more effective than an antibacterial agent, even though it is not labeled as such. For more information on this topic, we encourage you to check out Lisa Bronner’s blog post Ditch the Antibacterial: Soap Is All You Need (https://www.lisabronner.com/ditch-the-antibacterial-soap-is-all-you-need/). Should you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let us know!
