Q: can these be use for adults ?

submitted by Helen - 7 years ago
  • A: Yes. This just doesn't have any fragrance which could be irritating to sensitive skin.

submitted byella - 7 years ago
  • A: Hi Helen, yes this all-in-one soap can be used on children, adults, even pets!

submitted byTarget Beauty Consulting - 7 years ago

  • A: Yes! It’s a great alternative if you want to use something more natural and free of unnecessary chemicals, fragrances, etc. I also use this to wash my cat when we wash her cat box(about once a month) since it’s more natural and fragrant free :)

submitted byHeather - 6 years ago
  • A: Yes, absolutely. This baby version is actually also used by hikers and campers when camping close to bear country (since it's non-toxic and biodegradable and is a lot less naturally scented compared to the other Dr. Bronne'rs soaps like the Tea Tree, Lavender, Almond, etc) - it's actually how we started using it when we bought it at REI. It's also can be used to wash dishes but I prefer the soapy suds version from Dr. Bronner's (however Target doesn't carry that one). I have sensitive skin and seems to do well with all Dr. Bronner's soaps.

Q: can this be used as shampoo as well?

submitted by newmom - 7 years ago
  • A: I do use this as my primary shampoo as it's as close to pure as any product can be. Very mild, my hair feels clean without the added perfumes (which I'm allergic to). I use this as my one stop product in the bath. Every other hair wash I do use conditioner.

submitted byTP - 7 years ago
  • A: This is a very mild soap, but I would not use as shampoo because on the bottle it says to keep out of your eyes

submitted byLAR - 7 years ago
  • A: You can use it as a shampoo, but if you're not used to soap as shampoo I recommend following with a citric acid rinse (diluted apple cider vinegar is a good option) to smooth your hair follicle back down or your hair might feel a bit more tangled.

Q: How long does a bottle of this size typically last? Does a little go a long way?

submitted by mma - 7 years ago
  • A: I highly recommend getting a foam pump dispenser bottle. It will go a very long way, 2 showers a day, it lasted me 5 months.

submitted byTargetlover - 5 years ago
  • A: Hi Mma, we've found that this castile soap will last several months, especially when you dilute the soap, or combine it with water.

submitted byTarget Beauty Consulting - 7 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: As far as how much to use, I'd say it's about the same as any other liquid soap. So if you how long your old soap lasts, compare the size of containers to see how long this one will last. If cost is an issue, I suspect there are other brands of liquid castile soap, probably just as good, and Dr Bronner isn't a bargain brand. I know there are inexpensive castile bar soaps commonly available.

Q: Can I use this as liquid hand soap replacement? And what is the best way to bottle it, diluted in water with a foaming dispenser or straight from the Dr. Bronners bottle to a smaller dispenser?

submitted by MJ - 3 years ago
  • A: Hi MJ! We do not recommend using a standard pump dispenser, sensor dispenser, or wall dispenser with our Pure-Castile Liquid Soaps as they can easily clog. Instead, we recommend keeping the soap in its original bottle and using just a drop or two for each handwashing. However, our Pure-Castile Liquid Soaps do work well in foaming dispensers! Foaming dispensers “thicken” the soap with water and air. If you decide to use a foaming dispenser, make sure to dilute the soap at a ratio of 1 part soap to 3 parts water. This dilution doesn’t create the issues with clogging that undiluted soap would. Ratio example: 8 oz. bottle = 2 oz. soap (¼ c.) soap and 6 oz. (¾ c.) water; 12 oz. bottle = 3 oz. soap and 9 oz. water. When using a foaming dispenser, we recommend diluting a portion that will be used up within 2 weeks to a month, since we do not add any harsh preservatives in our products that will allow them to last longer than 1 month after being diluted. Using distilled water will be more helpful since hard water can cause natural soap separation.

Q: Does this smell similar to Johnson’s and Johnson baby soap (yellow bottle)?

submitted by Versatile shoe - 15 days ago
  • A: Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Bronner's! Our Baby-Unscented Pure-Castile Liquid Soap is simple, nourishing and fragrance-free. It contains double the olive oil, which makes our mild & gentle unscented soap good for sensitive skin & babies too (though not tear-free!). While our unscented soap has a very mild scent as there are no essential oils or added fragrances included in this product, we cannot compare the scent of this product to that of the Johnson and Johnson's baby soap. As our products are made up of organic raw materials, variability is expected and causes each batch of Pure-Castile Liquid Soap to be a bit different almost like wine. Each year has its own nuances, and crops can vary season by season. We’ve come to embrace some level of variability as it showcases the behavior of natural agricultural ingredients. This means that our liquid soap can have a green, yellow, or even amber color at times due to the oils used. These oils can also smell stronger, lighter, sweeter, grassier, etc. The viscosity of our soaps is similarly expected to vary slightly. All the raw materials used in our products have an impact on the overall finished good, which is very normal. Should you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to let us know!

Q: Does this soap suds up like my Almond one? I want to switch my boys to this one but I need it to suds up or I just won’t feel like they’re clean (Yes I’m one of those people Lol)

submitted by K Lucy - 5 months ago
  • A: Hi, thank you for reaching out to Dr. Bronner's! While we do like our bubbles, here’s a few things to consider: Bubbles do not indicate cleaning power. Our love affair with bubbles explains why SLS, the queen bee of bubbling surfactants, is in so many soap products. This soap foams more than many others in the natural realm, but without synthetic foaming agents, it does not have that overflowing amount of bubbles that other conventional soaps do. Hard water contains dissolved minerals in the form of calcium and magnesium. All true soaps, such as castile soap, will react with these minerals to form insoluble stearates, which are visible as a whitish precipitate. This effect can interfere with foaming capabilities and may leave soap scum on surfaces. This whitish precipitate builds up primarily on surfaces where water is left to dry, such as sinks and showers. It is typically not an issue on floors, counters, or other hard surfaces where the castile soap is diluted for cleaning and standing water is mopped or wiped up. We recommend checking out Lisa Bronner's blog, Going Green with Lisa Bronner, where she addresses the issue of hard water and soap scum. https://www.lisabronner.com/using-soap-to-test-for-hard-water-video/

Q: Is this safe to wash baby with? Any reactions on baby skin?

submitted by Dd - 6 months ago
  • A: Than you for your interest in out Baby Castile Soap. This soap is fairly mild, and can be used on babies when diluted. Please note that this product is not advertised as "Tear Free," so please be sure to keep this away from babies eyes. We do not recommend the use of any products on baby’s face. Instead use a wet wash cloth to wipe their face gently. Then, we recommend adding a couple drops of the Baby Unscented Pure Castile Soap to the washcloth. The washcloth helps immensely. This is because first, you don’t use or lose as much soap. Secondly, it is easier to control where the soap goes, and you don’t have it running all over the baby. Thirdly, the soap is diluted on the wet washcloth and isn’t applied strongly to my baby’s skin. We the recommend using water to rinse the soap off completely. It rinses very easily. To take care of their head, by tipping their head back so that the water and soap run backwards off of baby's head. Some customers may resort to using shower visors on babies, which are worn to keep the soapy water out of their eyes when rinsing their heads. While we have not tried these visors, we have heard from customers that this can also help keep product away from baby's face. If you would like to read more about this use, we recommend checking out the Going Green Blog article "Using Castile Baby Mild Soap on Babies:" https://www.lisabronner.com/using-castile-baby-mild-soap-on-babies/

Q: Can I use this for baby clothes laundry? I noticed it says bedding but wondering if it works well for baby clothes.

submitted by Erika - 7 months ago
  • A: Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Bronner's! Our Pure-Castile Liquid Soaps and Sal Suds Biodegradable Cleaner work wonderfully to wash clothing by hand and in regular or high-efficiency (HE) washing machines. However, please note that while our products are not HE-certified, we do receive a lot of positive feedback from our customers who use our soaps in their HE washers. We recommend using the Baby Unscented Castile Soap for Baby clothes! To wash your laundry in an HE washing machine, you will only need ¼ cup of Pure-Castile Liquid Soap (any scent) at full-strength. If you have a regular washing machine, you can double these amounts, using ⅓ – ½ cup of full-strength Pure-Castile Liquid Soap. If you choose to use our Pure-Castile Liquid Soap and have hard water, it is possible to encounter some mineral build-up on clothes. Rest assured that this is completely normal as the interaction of hard water, and even soft water, with any true soap (not synthetic detergent-based soaps), can leave behind a thin film of minerals that appears as residue or “soap scum.” Don’t worry though, as this residue can easily be washed off most items by utilizing one of two methods. The first would be to wash the affected items with our Pure-Castile Soap as usual, but also add ¼ - ½ cup of baking soda to the load and ¼- ½ cup of vinegar into your fabric softener compartment (or rinse cycle). The baking soda works to brighten, deodorize, and scrub during the wash while the vinegar breaks down any residue and naturally softens your fabric during the rinse cycle. (these additional steps are optional) If you have any delicate or luxurious garments such as silk, vintage items, or even waterproof materials, we recommend doing a spot test first, to make sure this product will be okay to use. Our products are intended for general use and can be used for many different purposes. However, because they are not specifically formulated for laundry, we have not tested them for all types of fabrics. When washing items by hand you may add a few drops of soap as needed. Q: Do I need to diluted with water to use as laundry soap , or use as it is ?

However, please note that while our products are not HE-certified, we do receive a lot of positive feedback from our customers who use our soaps in their HE washers. To wash your laundry in an HE washing machine, you will only need ¼ cup of Pure-Castile Liquid Soap (any scent) or 1 ½ tablespoons of Sal Suds, both full-strength. If you have a regular washing machine, you can double these amounts, using ⅓ – ½ cup of full-strength Pure-Castile Liquid Soap or 2 - 3 tablespoons of Sal Suds. If you choose to use our Pure-Castile Liquid Soap and have hard water, it is possible to encounter some mineral build-up on clothes. The baking soda works to brighten, deodorize, and scrub during the wash while the vinegar breaks down any residue and naturally softens your fabric during the rinse cycle. The second method is to wash your items with Sal Suds, instead of our soap. Sal Suds is a mild detergent meaning it is gentle enough to wash your clothing, but it does not interact with hard water the way Pure-Castile Soap can. It is also excellent at breaking down and cleaning any residue caused by our Pure-Castile Soaps. For the best clean, you can utilize both methods, washing your items with Sal Suds while adding baking soda and vinegar as mentioned previously. If you have any delicate or luxurious garments such as silk, vintage items, or even waterproof materials, we recommend doing a spot test first, to make sure this product will be okay to use. The sunscreen can turn white and sticky with inferior “soaps.” This unscented real Castile soap washes it away with only a couple drops. My hands are clean and my face is protected, ready for my day!

I stored the bottle under my kids’ bathroom sink and 3 days ago, my son found soap plastered all over the bathroom floor and inside the cabinet due to leaking from bottle. Good thing he didn’t slip and fall and able to inform me about the mess. Imagine having to mop up the concentrated soap on the entire bathroom floor and the cabinet. So much soap have been wasted
