A: No. Press the Record & Remix button. When the light turns red, say a phrase up to 3 seconds. Then listen to the phrase in a song remix. Press the Music button in any level to hear your recorded song remix. Only the last phrase recorded will play back in the songs.

A: Please make sure you have taken it out of the box and removed it from demo/try-me mode and that you are using fresh alkaline batteries. There are 3 modes of play. Kid Likes It, A Few Issues
My kid really liked this toy for a long time - more than most toys, so 5 stars for likeability. Two issues. One, the bouncing really varied based on the surface, and it fell over easily sometimes. I'm also on a second one of these. The first one, with normal use, lasted about 4 months. It would bounce and light up but not talk. I got another copy since my kid likes it, but I was hoping the kid would outgrow it before I had to get version 2.

BUY IT!
My daughter was obsessed with her pink version of this toy so we bought this one also! It’s a bit pricey but worth it!! She got her first one for Christmas when she was 3!! She is now 4 and a half and She gets the biggest kick out of them!! They are extremely durable and the batteries do last a while!! I highly recommend! GREAT FOR ALL AGES!
