A: Technically not antibacterial. Though, the US FDA found 0 evidence of antibacterial soaps better at preventing illness than plain soap and water. Antibac soap can actually be worse long term.

A: Our Ivory Gentle Bar Soap Original has the original scent. In the beauty care industry, we use two specific terms to help consumers find the right products to use, unscented and fragrance-free. Unscented products may contain a light scent to mask the natural odor of the ingredients in the formula. These ingredients do not have a pleasant smell, which is why it's necessary to add a very small amount of light fragrance to make the product more enjoyable to use. Fragrance-free products do not contain any added fragrance.

Q: The ten bar package I have at home shows 4X MORE/PLUS in the upper left. But in the store I saw a pack of fewer bars with 2.5X and another, I think with 3 or 3.5 X. Explain this on the package!

Never in my life have I voluntarily written an online product review. The change in formula is unwelcome and unnecessary. It smacks of P&G worrying about sales and hiring some fancy marketing ppl who told them to change Ivory to be closer to what every other soap is. I don't see how losing the loyal Ivory soap users (of which there seem to be many) in hopes of attracting new clients is a very good long-term solution. After 20+ years of only using Ivory, I will be moving on. Will be back in an instant if P&G come to their senses and go back to old formula. I worry this change is just the last gasps of a dying product.

I've been using ivory barsoap for over 60 years and have always bought multi packs. They last me for years. I just recently bought a new multi pack and am very disappointed in this new, NOT original bar soap. It has a waxy smell, leaves my skin not "squeaky clean" but dry and gets used up much faster than ever before. Please refrain from posting to me the repeated reply to long standing loyal customers bringing our legitimate observations of your new product. Your repeated reply is nothing more than a marketing department crafted explanation pointing out that your product is as good as ever and we are all incorrect in our experience. You've lost another customer that will be happy to return if and when you put the actual original soap back on store shelves. Was "new" coke not a lesson learned? I would give this a "0" if available. This is NOT the Original Ivory. The new formula is awful. I've used this product for many years due to allergic reactions to other bath soaps. Now I'm having the same problems with this "new" formula. The redness and itching are intolerable. The scent is stomach turning. The soap doesn't rinse off as easily. Glad I have a few slivers of the REAL Original left. As a 50+ year customer, I will no longer purchase this product.

Never thought you’d mess with something people have relied on for years but here we are. This new soap formulation is highly irritating to my skin causing it to be very itchy and irritated and I will need to now find something else to use. Very disappointed in this recent change that was unnecessary. I’d pay more for the old formulation if you’d go back to it. Now forced to find something different to use.

If I could, I would give the new plant based formulation of Ivory no stars. It is misleading to call this bar original. P&G claims they are trusted but they certainly are not trusted by me any longer. I have been using the original bar since I was a child and I am now 50. My skin is sensitive and any other product would make it dry and itchy. Now, I have that problem with this new formula of Ivory bar soap. It’s terrible. It doesn’t lather, it smells terrible and makes my skin dry and itchy. I am extremely disappointed. Why would you change a perfectly tried and true product after all these years? This is a huge mistake, Proctor & Gamble. I unfortunately cannot buy this soap any longer. If you change it back to the formula with tallow, I will gladly use it again. Please fix your mistake. Coca Cola did in the 80s. You can, too. It’s so sad you would change this soap to a sub standard product for all your loyal customers.

I don't get the hate for this. I have used Ivory since I was a kid in the 90s and, to me, it still smells the same and lathers the same. I've experienced no skin irritation. The only differences I notice is a slightly smaller size, and it doesn't float anymore. Love the soap and will continue using it.

I started using Ivory almost thirty years ago when my skin needed a soap without stuff. I kept using it because I liked a soap that was only soap. Back then, the economy pack was twelve five-ounce bars that lasted me almost six months. First, the bars went down to three-ounce. Then, the pack went down to ten bars. Prices and sizes change for all goods; I get that. I could live with that. But now that I just replenished my supply, I find that the soap is no longer soap. The bars are shiny and they smell. Just like the scented and moisturized bars that I stopped using. I shower, so I never tested the 'floating'. But I'm not surprised to see reviews that they no longer do that since the shiny scented bars I used to use didn't either. The bars that I may as well and will go back to.

Like many other reviewers, I have been an Ivory bar soap user for several decades. In the last several months, I have noticed that Ivory soap seems to have changed. The new bars come gooey and hard to remove from the wrapper because they are stuck to it. I thought maybe the soap had been heated in a warehouse somewhere. But there are other differences. The new bars have a slick plasticky sheen to them. They also have a strange smell. But the real problem is that I now have itchy skin after using the Ivory soap bars. I tend to be sensitive, especially to certain perfumes and that is one reason I have always loved Ivory. After several months of tru=ying to figure out if I was just imagining these observations, I decided to research it. And, low and behold, you HAVE changed the formula! But you still market it as Classic Ivory Gentle Bar Soap! This is false advertisement. The new version may be fine for some people, and it must be cheaper for you to make, but it is NOT as good as the real original, let alone better! This is P&G's "New Coke" moment! At least it is for me. I am looking for a new brand of soap that is really what Ivory used to be, or at least as close as I can find. I wish you would respond with, here's where you can buy our REAL Classic Ivory bar soap, but I know you won't. This is either a cost savings for you that you haven't passed on to the customer and therefore didn't warn your loyal customers or it is a nod to "woke" ideology and the ridiculous movement away from animal products which have been used to make soap for centuries. But whatever it is, it is a FAILURE so far as I am concerned.

I am 78 years old and have used Ivory soap for at least 50 of those years. My wife recently "gifted" me with some new age soap that she had heard about. Four bars of the stuff. I hated it but used it anyway just to make her happy and to get rid of it. I returned to Ivory - - - and am severely disappointed. It IS NOT the original soap. It smells different. It does not float. It wears away much faster. It even lathers up differently. I will not be purchasing Ivory any longer. In fact, I am contemplating tossing what I have left in the trash.

Me, my grandma, and my great grandma have used this soap since the 60s. We’ve always sworn by it and we got constant compliments on our skin from using it. However, this new “plant based formula” doesn’t work as well at all. I really miss the old Ivory soap, please go back!

I am VERY dissapointed with your latest changes with Ivory soap bars. I have used it EXCLUSIVELY for more than 55 years, my kids even grew up loving my ivory smell in the morning. It's understandable that you want to try to improve or "cost save" the product for competition, but you must maintain your base....this has always been simple bar soap! no crap. It doesn't lather properly, the smell has changed and worst of all it irritates sensitive areas of my skin. It took me 3 months of rashes to figure out it was the soap. I unfortunately, am discontinuing use of your existing soap ....Permanently! ...Unless you decide to re-offer your "classic" version again, I have no choice. Please let me know if you are able to thrash your drivers of these changes and bring back a very well loved, basic product. I would be very happy to get my old Ivory soap back. Sincerely, Peter

I just opened a new pack of ivory soap and immediately noticed that the texture was more waxy. The bar smells much more perfumey and doesn't sud up as much as it used to. I hate this new formula and and extremely disappointed that there was no indication on the package that the formula had changed. I liked this soap because it didn't smell strongly, it floated and it produced good suds. Will not purchase again.

this is not the same product I've been using for decades. The bars now separate like a sandwich in the middle and falls apart before the bar is hardly used, while the ivory name is still clearly stamped on the side. My wife wants to dump it because you use beef tallow but I would continue to use it if I could use it to a sliver and have the same product throughout its life.

This is not the experience we want you to have, so we will pass your comments along to the rest of the team. We truly expected you to get the same great benefits you’ve always received from our Ivory Bar Soap. The Ivory Bar is now made with plant-based cleansers and not animal based cleansers. As for the bar splitting, this can happen with all bar soaps and usually occurs after a bar is thoroughly soaked and then dries out. When this happens, dirt can get trapped in the cracks as they are forming. To avoid this, be sure to store the bar on a soap holder with raised points so air can circulate around it. Change it back! The new formula is terrible, it smells awful, leaves hard to remove residue and is forcing me to change to another soap. All my life I only used Ivory, unless it is reverted to the old formula I will never buy any again.

Regarding the residue, it is more likely to occur in hard water areas. Typically synthetic soaps do better in hard water than natural, purer soaps.
