Q: Would this size be too large for an elementary age student (6-12)?

submitted by Diane - 2 years ago
  • A: No it was just perfect

submitted bymarie - 1 month ago
  • A: My daughter is in 3rd grade and she loves its perfect size !

    submitted byAngel82 - 1 month ago
  • A: No, not after you add their 2nd set of clothes, tennis shoes in the winter when they wear snow boots, snow pants, lunchbox, etc.

  • A: Thanks for reaching out to JanSport regarding pack size, choosing a backpack is is definitely a personal decision and we would reccomend the following steps. 1. Determine what will be carried in the backpack as this will help you choose a size. Be mindful that the more you carry the heavier the pack. 2. Figure out if you like one large dump compartment or if you like multiple compartments to help organize yourself. 3. If possible try a backpack on and maybe even load some weight in it to see how it feels. Every person has a little different back length and size to there is not a one size fits all. Most packs will feel okay but you will usually find one that feels better than another. 4. Choose your favorite color once you decide on which backpack you want. JanSport packs are designed to fit most 12-24 year olds so trying to fit some younger may be a challenge just from the size of the straps and the pack. Choosing a backpack is a personal decision and following these steps will hopefully make things easier. Thanks for contacting JanSport.

Q: Is it machine washable?

  • A: We wash ours on cold and then hang dry it. It comes out beautiful. We have had the same backpack for 6 years now. It Getz heavy usage too

submitted byH Jaz - 1 year ago
  • A: According to the specs, the all canvas option is washable, but I sprayed mine down with Scotchguard Outdoors, which is made for heavier canvanas material

submitted byTigriss - 1 year ago

Q: How many pounds is the backpack

submitted by Mason - 1 year ago
  • A: I would say around a pound. It is light weight for a large backpac. The bulk of the weight is in the padding of the laptop compartment and the thick straps. They invested the weight wisely.

submitted byTigriss - 1 year ago

Q: Does these backpacks comes with an automatic warranty being that they are very expensive? If not how do we purchase one?and what are the requirements?

submitted by Danni - 1 year ago
  • A: If you overload the backpack with heavy books, laptop, & accessories the seams will go overtime, so pack wisely, especially for your back. You don't need a whole stationary store in your backpack.

submitted byTigriss - 1 year ago
  • A: JanSport backpacks come with a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects. There is not reason to purchase an additional warranty beyond what JanSport already offers. If you would like to know specific details concerning the JanSport limited lifetime warranty please refer to hang tags attached to the product or you can go to JanSport.com for additional information. Thanks for contacting JanSport.

Q: Could this backpack fit a 32 oz wide mouth Hydroflask in the water bottle pocket?

submitted by Sophia - 2 years ago
  • A: Is it capable yes, will th3 bottle stay inside the water bottle holder, NO! my child's40 Oz cup with open handle, always manages to come out and drop on the floor. I wouldn't recommend it, but rather a 24 Oz slender vertical bottle.

submitted bymom of 1 - 1 year ago
  • A: The JanSport Big Student should fit most of the large water bottles on the market. We specifically design our water bottle pockets to fit these large bottles, some of the water bottle companies do change sizes from time to time so it is always best to bring to make sure when making a purchase. Thanks for contacting JanSport.

Q: does the backpack work well for high school kids

submitted by needabackpack - 2 years ago
  • A: Yes. They can still use it for college & work. I use mine for work & have had it since 2015. I carry a laptop & practically a stationary store in it. I reduce it, but stationary seems to multiply.

The backpack is appreciated for its sturdiness, ample space, and multiple compartments, making it ideal for school and travel. However, there are concerns about the durability of the water bottle pocket and zipper quality. Guests find it useful for carrying laptops, books, and other essentials, but the recent decline in quality, particularly the water bottle holder and straps, has been noted.

I purchased this backpack for my 11 year old. She was adamant about getting the bigger backpack because she needs the space. We both love it. It’s nice and spacious and sturdy. I used Jansport back in the day when I was going to school too, so it’s a bit nostalgic.

I am very disappointed with the quality of Jansport backpacks now. They used to be durable and have excellent warranties. Not anymore. We purchased a big student backpack in December 2023 for my high school daughter. She has only used it for school to hold her laptop, binders, etc. Towards the end of this past school year, it started fraying on the bottom, creating a hole. We limped it along until the summer, when I planned to make a warranty claim. I filled out of the warranty paperwork and mailed it to the warranty center (costing $29 to ship). I was excited to receive a backpack in the mail recently, completely expecting my daughter's backpack to be repaired or replaced. Nope. They mailed it back exactly as it was, stating " our warranty covers defective materials, and workmanship only. Damage to your pack (normal wear, tear, abrasion, holes) is not covered under warranty. We are sorry, but we are not able to offer you a replacement for your back request". Clearly the material gave out and was not durable. I would not recommend purchasing a Jansport backpack, unless you plan on replacing it every 2 years or less.

This bag is notorious for zipper problems. The biggest problem is how easy the zipper covers get caught in the zipper. Other than that, it has tons of room which is the only reason I've had lots of patience with this bag.

We got the butterfly pattern cuz she loved it but unfortunately I have to return it because the shoulder straps were so hard that they hurt her shoulders and it was not even heavy. It was uncomfortable carrying this for more than 5 minutes. Also the flaps running along the zippers were such a hassle....have to lift them up everytime you need to access the zippers. Everyone says this brand is good but we are clearly disappointed! Not for us! e

I got the Fresh Mint color and it is so pretty! However, people complain that it is cheap material and it breaks easily, but it all depends on how you treat the product. If you don't care about the backpack and slam it on the ground and drag it, expect the disastrous result. Don't complain to Jansport that the bag broke because of how cheap the material is. It's all about how you treat your bag. If you take care of your bag, you won't be getting those outcomes. Just be cautious on how you treat it! Anyways, the bag itself is great quality and I definitely recommend! However, if you are considering buying a lighter color, it might get dirty fast! Just be aware about that! <3 Hope this review helps.

Bought this backpack for my 6 year old grandson. I thought it was a little on the pricey side for a backpack but it matched the lunchbox he already had. It’s the perfect size and the zippers are easy to open and close. It has plenty of space and extra exterior pockets.

If disappointment had a zipper, it would be this backpack. This glorified pillowcase with straps dares to call itself "durable," but after carrying three pencils and a granola bar, it ripped like a plot hole in a bad movie. The straps? Inspired by cheese strings—thin, sad, and guaranteed to disintegrate if exposed to gravity. Comfort level: hugging a cactus. The pockets seem to be designed using ancient riddles. Where do they lead? Nobody knows. I lost my keys in one pocket last week and now I just shake the bag hoping they fall out. Spoiler alert: they won't. And don't even get me started on the color.
