Q: Hi- does this also paint your skin in addition to the hair? I'd like to consider this as a solution to grow out my gray without the horrible 'skunk' line, but I also don't want it to show up on my skin...

submitted by ejames - 4 years ago
  • A: I would suggest using a towel or bag to protect clothing and skin below your hair line. It can "freckle" skin and clothing.

submitted byHair Problems - 1 year ago
  • A: Hey Ejames, we appreciate your interest in our Magic Root Cover Up. This product temporarily applies color to grays. For best results, we suggest you hold the can 4-6 inches from hair. Spray color onto new growth and partly through the length of the hair to blend in the color. We hope this was helpful!

Q: I am allergic to gluten and try to avoid it in my personal care products as well. Does L'Oreal Paris Magic Root Cover Up contain any gluten containing ingredients? Thank you!

submitted by Renee - 2 years ago
  • A: Most ingredients derived from grain sources are highly refined and retain no traces of gluten proteins. For less refined ingredients from natural sources, L'Oreal has established strict limits on the level of potentially allergenic proteins. Since individuals exhibit a wide range of sensitivities to these proteins, if you have any questions or concerns you should discuss with your medical care provider. All the ingredients we use in a product are listed on the package or the label of the product itself. For products too small to accommodate the list, a separate ingredient list is available on the display unit in the store for your convenience. Since some ingredients are known by more than one name, we use the standard industry FDA-recognized names. A review of the ingredients that are listed on all of our products or packages will alert you to the presence of this type of ingredient.

Horrible Stiff and Impossible To Remove

Jac - 3 days ago
I would give zero stars if I could. I have naturally brunette hair that I highlight blonde to camouflage hair thinning. I purchased the blonde version of this root spray. I was so horrified the first (and only) time I used this. First, it didn’t provide blonde coverage, but the formula is to thick, sticky, and dries to a cement like finish. I started panicking because my hair was plastered to my head and stiff as could be. When I tried to wash it out of my hair, it was as if the spray repelled the water and shampoo. I don’t understand how this product can work for people, what am I missing? After shampooing 3 times I got most of it out, I couldn’t imagine if I had used a lot. I would be concerned about hair loss. I will be returning this and never buying again. If you have fine thin hair, or have sensitive skin, AVOID AT ALL COST.

I bought this while I’m working on growing my hair because it’s sparse/thin in certain places. The spray is a bit hard to navigate at first (it comes out hard and fast), but it does perfectly cover the areas where my scalp is showing. However. It made my hair a bit stiff, like hairspray, and it’s still coming off onto my fingers if I touch the area 8+ hours later. Maybe I just used too much, but I’d be concerned about transfer onto other people, pillowcases, etc
1 reply from L'OrealParisProductExpert team - 4 days ago
Hi there! Thank you for your feedback on the Magic Root Cover Up, we are sad to hear that you had some transfer. For best results we suggest follwing these steps: 1. Shake the can well. 2. Hold the can 4–6 inches from your hair. Spray the color onto new growth and partly through the length of the hair to blend in the color. 3. Let stand for 1 minute and then comb through. 4 Allow product to dry for one to two minutes. We hope this helps and you give it another try!

Hardly any in the bottle! You’ll need a few bottles if you want this to cover anything on your head. It shows up very light even though it was dark brown so it took a couple of applications but the bottle hardly had any spray in it. Had to run out to buy two more bottles just to cover my grey for one night !

I don't use it on roots since don't dye my hair. I spray it on a cotton pad because I don't want the spray near my eyes. I then run the wet cotton pad down the gray streak I have in the front. The medium brown matches my hair exactly and even though it does leave a sticky film that comes out after I brush it and when I wash it, the great thing is that the color is still there! A little lighter but it blends in well. To me, it's a good thing that it doesn't wash out with the first shampoo. I would hate to redo it every 3 days when I wash. I am so happy to find this product.

I’m a hair stylist for 35 years. A client brought this in. Against all judgment I applied it. It Matt’s the hair afterwards and when shampooing it you can’t get it to lather. It may cover but I never seen product like this. My hands feel tingly and it feels like it is in my nail beds. Wear rubber gloves when this. Not plastic. It has to be Metallic in it.

I wish I had read the reviews first. I would not have wasted my money. At first I couldn’t get it to work but my daughter showed me what to do. I sprayed on my roots and still couldn’t get it to cover that well. After it dried, I combed it out and it feels sticky and hard. Haven’t washed yet but from the reviews I’m not hopeful.

Good color, coverage and volume boost

EosHeliosSelene - 1 month ago, Verified purchaser
I have very fine/thin dark hair and a very pale scalp. I would use this to help volumize my hair while also camouflaging my scalp heavy part. It acts almost like dry shampoo to add a bit of volume if you work the product around. Downside... Pray you don't have an itch on your head or your fingers/nails will come away with some color.

We all try to make the best decision when selecting hair color products in store yet there really isn't any chart or example that is truly helpful! I purchased Light to Medium Blonde and it is: A) too light B) too yellow C) too 'flat', but perhaps it would work if the color was better D) is easy to apply and has a good level of coverage Back to the store! Ugh.

the medium to light blonde looked more gray! I used it directly as instructed on a small test area. the product was extremely stiff, dry, and flattened my hair. I could not leave the house it looked so bad. Furthermore, IT DID NOT WASH OUT! I shampooed twice with clarifying shampoo and it had no effect on removing the product. Worse than horrible! It feels like I have cement in my hair.
