The L Oreal Magic Root Cover Up is a convenient solution for guests looking to quickly cover gray roots between salon visits. Many guests appreciate its easy application and effective coverage, with a color match that blends well with natural hair. The lightweight formula dries quickly and does not leave a sticky residue, making it ideal for on-the-go touch-ups. However, some guests noted issues with the spray mechanism and potential for smudging.

HORRIBLE! Orange spray on blonde roots.
Absolutely horrible! Looks like you literally took aerosol face foundation or spray tan and sprayed it on your roots. Looks like I have make-up caked on my rootline now. Supposed to be “blonde” to cover dark roots and is a shimmery orange and looks exactly like bronzer or spray tan. Now my clean hair is dirty and gross. Cannot return in-app apparently because it’s an “aerosol”.

Works well to cover grey hair
Covers grey’s up nicely! A little goes a long way. It stains your fingers if you use them to rub it in so I use a tissue paper to rub it in.

Check all your options 1st !
Spray is too “forceful” especially trying to cover “any” of the front hair line. It also goes everywhere. You need to wear gloves and something to cover your face and back of neck when doing this. The product is ok but you will have better control with the brush application.

Great product with horrible nozzle design
I have used this product for years and hate the new spray nozzle! It splatters everywhere and leaves product dots on my face, countertop, clothing. It’s horrible! Please go back to the original spray nozzle that does not have the quarter inch spout!

Hi Lala6282. Please be sure that you are holding the can 4-6 inches away from your roots on dry hair - Be sure to let the product dry for 1 minute before touching your roots. - After applying, wait 1 minute to allow drying and then use a comb or brush to ensure there is no excess product - Too avoid using too much product, apply in layers, pausing 1 minute in between each application

Love the product!
I usually have my hair colored once a month. I did not color my hair in December and my next appointment is not until January 10, 2026. I have been using L'Oreal Paris Magic Root Cover Up for a few years and really like it. The gray on the crown of my head was so much but j7st a couple of sprays and it was covered. I absolutely love your product! Sincerely, Elena Pecoraro

smudges, feels chalky & difficult to apply
I purchased to cover my roots on Christmas Eve, I covered my next and shoulders with a towel as instructed. It was difficult to get an even smooth spreading spray. It left dark spots.I used baby oil on cotton ball to remove over spray. My hair feels chalky and the color spray rubs off on hands even 4 days later so I have to keep washing my hands if I touch my hair so it doesn’t transfer to other things. This does not meet the LOREAL website claim that it dries and doesn’t rub off or smear. This is very messy and expensive since I won’t be able to use the rest of the product.

Works in a oinch but not my go to
This root cover spray does the job when you need a quick fix between hair appointments or for last-minute touch-ups. It covers grays and sparse spots well, but I’m giving it three stars because I don’t love the finish. It looks a bit dull after application, and the texture feels dry and slightly gritty to the touch. Effective in a pinch, just not my favorite for all-day wear.

Very Good Coverage
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have already bought this product after testing it. Great to use in-between dying hair. Coverage was good. Hair still felt healthy after use. Applying was simple.
