Q: how do I get this product to wash out of my hair

submitted by Limey - 3 years ago
  • A: As a hairdresser, dandruff shampoo will STRIP the rest of the color on your hair you are trying to use the Root Cover Up spray to match! (Exception: Professional brands "safe for color-treated hair.")

submitted byMogulMom - 4 months ago
  • A: Just about any soap or shampoo product should help you scrub out in the shower.

submitted byHair Problems - 2 years ago
  • A: Hi there! Thank you for reaching out to us about the removing the Magic Root Cover Up from your hair. We are sad to hear that you are having difficulty removing this product from your hair. We suggest for best results washing you hair with a clarifying shampoo or a dandruff shampoo. We hope this helps and you continue to use and try our products in the future.

Q: Can I have my roots colored in a salon even though there is still some residue of this spray still in my hair?

submitted by Rosco63 - 8 years ago
  • A: My hair stylist has noticed some build up but it has not posed issues for me for her to continue dying on it. I try to get as much residue out as I can before seeing her though.

submitted byHair Problems - 2 years ago
  • A: Hi Rosco63! Thank you for reaching out! Unless you have a lot of product build-up in your hair, you should be okay to visit the salon! For best results, we recommend washing out the product from your hair and waiting at least 24 hours before coloring! We hope this information is helpful!

Q: Can the spray be used to conceal thin areas for someone experiencing hair loss/thinning in some spots? Natural hair color is off black.

submitted by Stylish Lady - 8 years ago
  • A: It might depend on how thin you are, and the color. It can and does shade the scalp.

submitted byHair Problems - 2 years ago
  • A: I was looking at this product to use instead of my Bumble and Bumble (colored) hair powder spray because I need a different color. Otherwise, I love the Bumble and Bumble and use it for my thinning hair. I do not know if this product does what B & B does, but I was hoping it did since B & B works WONDERS for thinning hair. It miraculously makes the hair look thicker and camoflauges the thinning areas completely. I lost a lot of hair the last few months due to medication (horrible shedding) so I understand exactly what you are asking. I am going to try this product because Target is wonderful about letting you return their products if they do not work. If this doesn't work, I will stick with my B & B. Good luck!

    Stains and makes hair stiff

I had high hopes for this since it had decent reviews but this stuff gets everywhere! My fingers were stained whenever I touched my hair, even after it was dry. It made my hair feel super stiff and didn’t cover the roots like I thought it would. I washed my hair 4 times before the stiffness and color came out. I didn’t want it to stain my clothes and pillow case and my fingers.

Hello Jen! We are so sorry to hear about your frustrating experience with our Magic Root Cover Up, as we always want you to have a clean, effortless touch-up between colorings. Because this quick-fix spray utilizes micro-fine pigments that bind to the hair shaft, applying too much or spraying too close can lead to a heavy, stiff feel and pigment transfer onto your hands or linens. To ensure a completely dry, transfer-resistant finish that feels natural, a great tip is to shake the can well, hold it a full four to six inches away from your roots, spray in light, quick bursts, and allow the formula to air-dry completely for two to three minutes without touching your hair.

It does cover but will leave dots on your face or clothing if you're not careful. Will also leave color on your fingers if you run your hands/fingers through your hair. Feels chalky, like between dry shampoo & hair spray feeling. Make sure you wash your hair before getting into bed if you don't want your pillow to end up with the color. That's why I only give 3 stars but I still like using it between coloring.

Changed your formula? Change it back!

I've used this stuff for years, but it's only recently that it comes off on my hands and pillows and anything that touches my hair even a DAY after applying it. It used to dry and stay put. Now my fingers are always black from just running my fingers through it to check my hair throughout the day. So frustrating.

    Color was yellow
    1 reply from L'OrealParisProductExpert team - 19 days ago
Hello Marissa! Thank you so much for reaching out about our Magic Root Cover Up - Medium Blonde, and learning that the color result appeared too yellow on your roots is very important to us. Because our temporary root spray is designed to quickly blend grey hair with blonde shades that have warm, golden undertones, it can sometimes register as overly vibrant if applied too heavily or onto a cooler ash blonde hair base. To achieve a perfectly seamless, natural-looking blend, we highly recommend shaking the can vigorously before spraying a very light, quick mist from about four to six inches away from dry roots, and then immediately running a fine-toothed comb through the area to soften the color and distribute the pigment evenly. Thank you so much for sharing this valuable feedback.

    It works...kind of.

It works when you actually get product in the can. Lately they have been stingy with the amount of paint in the can, most of the time it just sprays clear liquid and no dye no matter how much you shake it or what angle you hold it at. The dye itself has an oily feel that is rather unpleasant so you have to find a balance of getting it to actually color and not making your scalp look greasy. It also comes off easily like it never really dries all the way, very often it smears on my pillow cases, even if I applied it in the morning, and I wake up looking like Robert Downey Jr in Tropic Thunder.

Hello Lily! We are so sorry to hear that our Magic Root Cover Up did not work for you and that you feel it was a waste of your money. This spray is designed as a quick, temporary fix to instantly conceal gray roots, but achieving a seamless look can sometimes depend on the application technique and how much product is used. To get the best coverage, we suggest shaking the can well and holding it a full four to six inches away from your hair, then spraying it in very light, quick puffs rather than a continuous stream. Allowing the product to dry completely for a full minute without touching or combing through it will also help the temporary color set perfectly for a natural-looking finish.

    Meh

While I liked the color as it matched my hair, it comes off so easily, so I’m not sure how this helps anything if it just comes right off? I try setting it with hairspray but it doesn’t really help. It gets all over my fingers if I move my hair.

Hello Morgan! We are so sorry to hear that our Magic Root Cover Up is transferring and causing a mess when you touch your hair. This formula is designed as a temporary, quick-fix spray that should dry down completely to remain smudge-free until your next shampoo, but transferring can happen if too much product is concentrated in one spot. We suggest holding the can a full four to six inches away from your roots and applying it in very light, quick-dispersed puffs rather than a continuous spray, and then letting it dry completely for at least one full minute without touching or combing through it to allow the color to set firmly.

This is a horrible product, so messy, and gets on anything that touches your hair after. The "light-golden-brown" was so dark almost black. Do not buy.
