⭐ 1/5 — Would Not Recommend Unfortunately, I would not recommend the LeapFrog tablet based on the device's performance, outdated technology, and my experience with customer support. I purchased this tablet on September 18 specifically as a learning and support tool for my young son. Within a very short period of ownership, we experienced significant lag, slow performance, and extremely poor battery life—at times a full charge would only last approximately 30–45 minutes. One of my biggest concerns is how outdated the technology and software appear to be. The software associated with this device appears to date back to around 2016. If that is accurate, that means a children's tablet being sold in 2026 is relying on technology/software that is approximately a decade old. In my experience, its performance reflects that age. By 2026 children's-tablet standards, I find the performance inadequate. Parents now have access to children's devices with significantly better processing performance, storage, displays, app compatibility, battery life, and long-term usability. I expected a recently purchased LeapFrog device to provide a reasonably modern experience, especially considering LeapFrog's reputation as a children's technology and educational brand. I was also completely transparent with LeapFrog that the screen had sustained accidental cracks. However, the tablet continued functioning after that incident. I was **not asking LeapFrog to replace the cracked screen**; I was asking them to evaluate separate battery and performance problems. Instead, customer support informed me that physical/accidental damage automatically voids the manufacturer's warranty, even if the device later experiences a different issue. When I questioned this and asked where that was identified in the warranty, I was told their products “follow industry standards when it comes to warranty” and that they could no longer offer a replacement. That response was particularly disappointing considering how recently the tablet was purchased. For a device specifically designed and marketed for young children, durability, reliability, battery life, and ease of use should be fundamental. When a children's tablet lags, freezes, or loses its charge after only 30–45 minutes, it creates an unnecessarily frustrating experience for both the child and the parent. I purchased LeapFrog because I wanted a dedicated educational device rather than simply handing my child a regular tablet. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I wish I had invested the money in a more current children's tablet that could provide better performance and grow with my child. Between the outdated technology, poor battery performance, significant lag, and the handling of my warranty concerns, I cannot recommend this product.

Battery and Port Issue
I have only had the device for 8 months to the day. The battery port is so loose that none of my cords hold. When I finally get it to charge, the charging display screen claims the battery is near-full. Upon turning it on, I remove the cord to make the device wireless and the devixe immediately shuts off. Thsu, it is safe to say the battery no longer holds a charge or it doesn't give power to the device. The only way it functions is to have it remained plugged in and hope the cord doesn't become loose. I purchased it at $99, but it seems the price has increased to $119, which is insane giving the many reports about this issue for this device. The protection plan is a MUST for this device, and I never purchased insurance for devices. I, however, purchased one for this device and will be filing a claim today. The apps are quite expensive and the Academy portion requires subscriptions. You are better off getting the 90's Jump Start games on your computer (which you would then own permanently).

The age range on this toy is 3 to 8 years of age. I purchased the tablet my four year old granddaughter. The second time she used the tablet she dropped it against a piece of furniture and the screen cracked. I contacted Leapfrog about repairing the screen and was told the tablet is "indestructible", therefore they don't repair the screens. So after two uses this $120 toy is now trash. I am extremely disappointed in my purchase.

Great item
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the coolest test product I’ve ever gotten, it made a great holiday gift for my kiddo and he gets tons of play time out of it. We were already big fans of LeapPad products and this one is great, the battery life lasts a while with fast recharge time. I wish they would update to sturdier charge port styles like a USB-C or magnetic connector. The apps are pretty good and educational, but paid apps cost too much.

Fun gift for 5 year old.
Purchased this for our 5 year old and he is really enjoying it for the last few months. The ease of use is perfect for preschoolers and school age kids. It has been dropped multiple times but has not cracked so the the durability is worth mentioning for the active kids. Lots of educational and fun games to keep him entertained.

Save your money
Do not buy this tablet for your child. It’s not a matter of if it will break—it’s when. If it breaks after Target’s 90-day return window, LeapFrog will not help you. Customer support repeatedly sends their return policy, which clearly states they will not replace the screen, the most common part to break. On top of that, most repair shops won’t even work on LeapFrog tablets because of how they’re constructed. So you end up spending $120+ on a tablet that’s essentially unusable within a year. I think LeapFrog is a great company overall, but this is extremely frustrating and feels sketchy. You’re honestly better off buying an iPad or Android tablet and adding parental controls than investing in a kids’ tablet that may only last five or six months.

Educational and entertaining for kids!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Leappad is such a versatile tablet for kids. It has several apps that are engaging like a math app, an art studio and several fun games!! The kids really enjoy using it! They like listening to the songs and listening to stories which are all available for free without the subscription to the academy. The tablet itself is very sturdy and high quality. The outer handles are made well for little hands. It also comes with a stylus that is attached for easy manoeuvring . It was easy to set up and start using! The charge stays for a few hours but needs to charged before every use. Overall a wonderful tablet perfect for kids that is educational and entertaining!

She loves it!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My niece loves this! She has been using it almost every day since I got it for her and I love that this has its own ecosystem for child safety. This is easy to grab and not too heavy. Perfect for my seven year old.

Fun learning tool
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’m grateful for receiving this LeapFrog LeapPad as a gift. It has so many great songs and simple games for kids. My 4 year old son loved it. He is learning words by playing simple drag-n-drop game and so much more. In my opinion, it totally worth the money. It’s easy to charge and carry around. It has this durable case and also pen works great too. I highly recommend it two those families who has kids.

An Amazing Tool For Growing Minds!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The LeapFrog Academy tablet has been a fantastic addition to our home, and my 4-year-old absolutely loves it. One of the first things I noticed was the incredibly durable case — it has already survived a few accidental drops and bumps without any issues. It feels sturdy and well-designed for little hands, so I don’t have to hover nervously every time it’s being used. The interface is very user-friendly for kids. My child was able to navigate through the games and activities with very little help, which makes them feel independent and confident. The controls are simple, the icons are easy to recognize, and the whole experience is clearly designed with young learners in mind. What I appreciate most is how educational the content is. The tablet offers activities that help with early reading, numbers, problem-solving, and creativity, all while feeling like play. It keeps my child engaged and learning at the same time, which is exactly what I was hoping for. It truly feels like an educational tool that supports growing minds rather than just another screen.

Screen not durable
Screen broke within 2 days after christmas, was pretty disappointed since its advertised to be kid proof. I did contact leapfrog but it falls under accidental break so they couldn't help. Pretty expensive gift that lasted 2 days.

Failed by leapfrog
This tablet requires way too much to even get started and once you create an account there’s all there fees for subscription and apps! And it’s super slow at downloading and use of features. Take’s so long to upload a game! Waste of time and money to be honest.
