LEGO Ideas Motorized Lighthouse Model Building Kit 21335

Hadn't built a LEGO set since a few Hobbit sets around 10 years ago. Huge kudos to the designers for the appealing natural warm color palette with the creamy white lighthouse - as well a superb use of small gray pieces and irregular shapes to evoke rocky cliffs. The build - for someone not that experienced - was interesting; took me about 2 weeks building one step at a time during evening TV. I wasn't in any hurry and never got bored. The cottage is so warm and adorable I wanted to move in. It's a "perfect set" IMO; if you could only ever build one LEGO set this would be a candidate, especially for the ocean lover. My one nit would be to encourage LEGO to move to USB lighting/motors, although this could burn motors and lights out faster? I also liked the thoughtfulness that there is a "path" up the lighthouse with the ladders on each level. (It may be silly to need a way to get through a building with a "toy", but that bothers me lol when there is no obvious way to move from room to room). There's even the little gate at the "crow's nest" for the lighthouse keeper to tend to the light. Overall I have the impression the designers spent quite a lot of time looking at real life rocky shores and lighthouses as well as color palettes, and this is an aesthetic winner (including the seagull nest and droppings lol). Of course I had to make use of more LEGO parts to add some "seagrass"; decided there was a whole cat family living at the lighthouse, a few crabs (one guarding the delightful hidden cave which I am sneaking a Jack Sparrow map into; and the hanging bat is hilarious). Plus the lighthouse Captain's friend is bringing groceries as well as a new puppy to play with the keeper's Scotty dog. And a few life preservers instead of the barrel of fish, and so on. (I need to find a turkey for the holiday display lol). If LEGO's saying is "never stop playing", well, this set brought a lot of joy to this ocean lover, and for a relative adult newbie was "just right" as far as build complexity. Delightful, tho I had to backtrack a few times lol. (I hope LEGO comes out with a matching expanded sea cottage one day; with a porch, rocking chairs, sand castles etc.) But it is also a suitable display piece for an adult, thanks to the care in design. It's charming, detailed, clever use of pieces, and I am a bit sad I finished the build. Since I hadn't done much with Lego in over 10 years and nothing of this scale, I am just so impressed with the design and aesthetic (as well as the instructions). For me this was an excellent choice and I've had enormous fun - maybe one day I can build that matching sea cottage with the porch that I imagine!

Such a fantastic set. Yes, it is a bit tedious at the beginning because of all the little pieces, but it is completely worth it in the end. And the little treasure cove hiding the switch for the motor is such an amazing idea, wife couldn't figure out how to turn it off!

If you have space in your window this is a good place to put it. I need to make it waterproof then it would make a nice edition to the pond. It was a very nice build to do and despite the number of pieces it didn't take that long to build

A few steps are a little challenging, this book isn’t highlighted like the newer ones.

When I saw this set, I was obsessed. I couldn't justify the price at first, but after learning it's retiring at the end of 2025, I finally caved and bought it. I was nervous after reading some reviews about missing pieces, motors not working, lego saying to "give the motor enough room" even though you're encasing them in plastic pieces that you can't adjust. But all of those were quickly squashed. This is an incredibly fun build. I'm not sure how someone built it in 3 hours, I did about an hour and a half a day (working and all) for 4 days. Through the build, I'd verify that the lights still worked and the motor turned as I went so I wouldn't have to disassemble towards completion. This worked very well for me and I had no problems with the build. If you love lighthouses, lego and intricate designs, you need to add this set to your collection before it retires. Overall a very fun build that I highly recommend.

Nice build taht fits nicely in a city or waterfront collection. Only sad part about this set is that it makes a rather loud sound when its on. This doesnt hurt for children playing but if you want nice ambient feature this isnt it.

This set is great, the build experience is cohesive, the motor functions are satisfying once completed, and the overall model is pleasing to look at. Props to both the Fan designer and the Lego one!

This set is truly one of a kind! I loved getting to build it and had so much fun getting to build with the motor. I also loved that this set came with lights included! I’m always buying light kits for my sets and was very pleased to see that it was included! Highly recommend!

Couldn't wait to receive this lego set I purchased in the lego insider's sale and used my lego points so a real bargain I had hours of fun and absolutely loved building this

This set's instructions stood out to me, as someone who buys the Modular Buildings every year since 2019, as being exceptionally bad. The lack of highlighting around clear tiles on the baseplate was especially confusing. The lack of highlighting to show where new pieces are placed in-general was just bad. It's nothing you can't figure out, but the building process felt clunky--not smooth and meditative like other adult-oriented sets around this price point.

There are some details in this set that are just too good. The book in the drawer in the house, the kitchen the wine bottle : they could have easily been omitted but the thoughtfulness really shines through. I’m typically more of a technics / car fan but was really drawn to this set and it does not disappoint. You have to concentrate particularly with the building turns, but the detailing is sublime, the brickwork on the cottage, handles on the doors…. And the lighthouse itself is just art. Possibly a couple of improvements…. It’s easy to drop parts into the light house and they are challenging to retrieve…. A few more spares would have helped. And also the light itself, a better way of securing the bulb and a brighter light would a small improvement. I really enjoyed this build and would highly recommend it.

This is a fun set and the light assemble is fairly accurate to the real thing. I am a lighthouse enthusiast and this was great. But you don't need to love lighthouses to love this set. It is big but that's the fun.

Nice kit but missing a important piece. Had to go to a local guy that sells used and new legos to buy the piece I needed to finish the lighthouse. Not sure why Lego gives you pieces you don't need and not the ones you need. Makes it confusing when you build also looking for where the extra pieces fit. All in all it is a very nice kit and my wife loves lighthouses. I would buy again.

I just got this two days ago and haven’t had any time to build this. But look forward to. Like things to do in the winter time.

The good: Overall very impressive build and the "fresno" lens looks good in a darkened room. Also like the secret on off switch and the bonus extra light. There's also quite a few other secrets here too, including removable sections and hidden items. The bad: Didn't realise it was going to need so many batteries. I'm sure older sets with similar power output didn't need that many. The ugly: This was not a fun building experience as the images didn't always make it clear where new pieces were going. Other sets highlight new pieces much clearer (eg bright white outline). These ones only included a very slightly stronger black outline. So only good if you like playing spot the difference at each step...

Fairly fun build, looks great, I felt 300 was a lot but when it went on sale for 225 immediately purchased the set. The blue base plate and red roof are colors that I absolutely love.

Built it twice thought I made a mistake some where. But still could not get the light to turn correctly. Maybe I just got a bad set????

Instructions were easy to follow. Awesome mechanical and lighting.
