Q: WHY DOES LEGO TAKE BATTERIES
submitted by Gabriel - 3 years ago
A:Â The LEGO Mario figure includes sounds and interactive visual elements, such as moving eyes and a display panel on Mario's chest that changes when the figure interacts with special codes on certain Mario LEGO pieces.
Love it!! This set is so awesome, I love the different faces Mario makes! We also paired it with the Luigi set and we're not disappointed! Be aware, our heroes don't like the color red, because red is lava!! So anytime they touch the color red they get distressed!

Bad choice to get rid of paper instructions

90% of my frustration with this set would be resolved if it came with your classic paper instruction booklet. Instead your kiddo has to wait for you to download an app, install a bunch of stuff via Bluetooth to the Mario, find the instructions - all while probably caffeine deprived. Then! The instructions require constant use of your phone (unless your kiddo had their own I guess). And because of Bluetooth and constantly playing midi music, the app burns through your phones battery before the kiddo completes the set. Why are legos awesome? They’re not screen time toys and they are QUIET. Not true here, not true at all. The other 10% of my frustration is the terrible box design. Like so many other folks I did not realize you needed the starter set before other sets. In terms of actual play - it’s pretty cool. I love the clever use of a simple barcode scanner. The kiddo likes to play with it. But it’s noisy and not as creative as other sets.

Can’t even build without an app

This set was so disappointing. I bought it for my son’s birthday and he was SO excited. The excitement quickly left when we learned there are no directions with it. You have to download an app to get even a single course setup. You can’t even build the goombas until you download the app! AND you have to connect Mario to Bluetooth before you can even do that! We’ve always loved that Lego was an electronic free toys that challenged their brains, encouraged creativity and got them away from electronics but it seems that’s no longer the case here.

worst set ever, no paper instructions

worst set ever, zero paper instructions. One is obliged to waste precious time to go, try to find online the instructions, download them... It's a MAZE just to try to find the instructions online before one can actually build the set. It's like: you buy a game, but the game does not come with the instructions or the rules. You need to go and find the rules online by yourself... After a while, you got fed up and can't be bothered to waste your precious time, you throw it all n the bin and never buy rubbish from that toy company ever again, even if your children like it. You just introduce your children to other toy companies. What a stupid set.

NO PAPER INSTRUCTIONS

My son got this as a gift from a grandparent, and there's no printed instructions. So now he needs to be staring at a screen to put his Lego together. I do not like this cheap trend of no printed instructions, and I don't like the idea of a company gathering data on my children. I will not buy any Lego without printed instructions.

I want the paper instructions.

It was extremely frustrating to not have the instructions printed in the package. Having to grab a screen for building play defeats the purpose for us. I did print the pdf which was much more paper used than if it was printed in smaller format, on the thin paper other Lego sets use. Printing on a regular home printer isn’t practical when storing the instructions either. I’m surprised and disappointed that this is Lego’s solution. I think it’s great that there is an app where zooming features etc can be used; however not at the exclusion of being able to build screen-free. I’m not always building with him and handing over a screen without supervision that also requires to be unlocked periodically doesn’t work for us. This line of products is a hassle - especially for the cost of the product. If printing a full booklet is an issue for Lego, then I suggest they review if even adding a condensed version (ie for the main characters in the set) could be included. However seeing the packaging, I don’t think paper use is Lego’s issue. I don’t know why they decided to amp up the packaging and leave out the instructions. I hope Lego will reconsider and include the printed option for future products. The toy itself has been enjoyed by my 6 year old, but his favourite part of building along to the instructions wasn’t a great experience with this product line.

We're sorry to hear you and your son were disappointed that physical building instructions aren't a part of this set. We're always exploring new ways to build and we appreciate the feedback from our fans. The app isn't needed for play except for occasional updates to LEGO® Mario™, so we hope your son can enjoy hours of creative fun with this set!

My kids love the Lego Mario sets. And they are fun to play with after they are built. However, I cannot understate what a pain in the butt it is that they do not come with instruction booklets like other Lego sets. Having to access the build instructions via a dedicated app is unnecessary and inconvenient. For the love of all that is holy, Lego, please include regular instruction booklets with these sets.
