Description
Our clothes are in constant contact with bacteria throughout our day-to-day activities, from hugging other people, brushing against contaminated surfaces and even our own bodies. Bacteria can spread from one fabric to another in the laundry basket, from the washing-machine drum to the next load. Some of these bacteria can survive following the wash cycle!
When it comes to certain laundry loads such as children's clothes or sportswear, you want to eliminate bacteria that may cause illnesses and create lingering bad smells. But laundry detergents alone don't actually kill all bacteria. Lysol Laundry Sanitizer is an additive specially designed to kill 99.9% of bacteria in laundry*. Simply add Lysol Laundry Sanitizer to your rinse cycle. It does not contain any chlorine bleach and even works in cold water, so is safe to use on most fabrics including whites, colors and darks.

Q: Why do we need to sanitize everything?
A: If you go to the details under this product on the Target website and hit see more. All the full directions on how to use and more are there.
submitted byTxrunaway - 7 years agoA: I know this question is two years old, but I'm pretty sure they're wanting this now. People sanitize things for various reasons; where they work, where they bought the clothes, just to be clean.
submitted byNadia - 5 years agoA: Nobody said "we need to sanitize everything." Some people need to sanitize some things. For example, I have cloth bedding for my guinea pigs. I can wash it on hot, but it still doesn't come out smelling fresh. I don't "need to sanitize everything", but to avoid bad smells & bacteria from guinea pig bedding, It behooves me to sanitize it.
submitted byLisaBee - 6 years agoA: No one is forcing you to purchase. They came out with the product because of people like you who don't feel the need to be clean.
submitted byBK - 7 years agoA: This product is perfect for people who purchase clothing at thrift shops, yard sales, second-hand stores, etc.

Q: i dont have a place for an additive for rinse cycle. cant believe it. my lid locks. should i soak 15 min in washer before washing?
A: If you don't have a fabric softener compartment or a way to add the product directly to the rinse cycle, unfortunately you won't be able to use this product.
submitted byLysol Team - 3 years agoBrand expertA: Yes, you can. I soak my clothes with it for probably over 16 minutes. After that I wash with detergent and also add it to the fabric softener component. Yours must be an older washing machine
submitted byFoxychica4345 - 1 year agoA: I know they make fabric softener balls that you can use to dispense fabric softener at the right time. In theory it could maybe work for this product too to dispense later in the washing cycle.

Q: How do I use it there are no instructions on bottle, do I add to the detergent or the rinse cycle
A: There are instructions on the back. It's one of those labels that you have to peel the sticker and you'll see the instructions. Basically, pour 2 capfuls (line one) in the rinse cycle or pour it in the softener thingy. You have option to soak for 15 min. Also, if you have HE washer, i think it says pour 1 capful - not sure on that.
submitted bydmae712 - 8 years agoA: This is my second bottle and I add a capful into the wash with detergent.
submitted byKimmeeT - 8 years agoA: I read on the Lysol website that it needs to soak in just water for at least 15 minutes to properly sanitize the clothing...it said not to mix with detergent or softener or it will deactivate the sanitizer...i just soak first with sanitizer then add detergent and start cycle..(I work in a lichen, pant bottoms get GROSS!)

Q: Will this kill the bacteria that causes athletes foot and toe fungus? I have googled and can only see information about COVID on the bottle and website

Q: I am concerned about chemical residue in my clothing since it releases during the rinse cycle. Will it work as well if I “pre-wash” my clothes with only Lysol sanitizer and then run regular wash cycle with only laundry detergent?
A: It is advised to use this product in the rinse cycle or to place it in the fabric softener compartment of your machine. Always use the proper dosage instructions as indicated on the label, based on the size of the load prior to using this product. The product does wash off fabric during the cycle.
submitted byLysol Team - 4 years agoBrand expertA: Actually, on the instructions it does say you can use it as a pre soak treatment for 16 minutes. After that you wash like you normally would. I pre soak and add it to the fabric softener slot too.

Q: How does this effect a septic system/etc? Will it kill the good bacteria too and effectually cause issues?
A: When used as directed on the product label, Lysol Laundry Sanitizer is appropriate for use with septic systems.
submitted byRB Product Expert - 6 years agoBrand expertA: If you overuse this product or other sanitizing products that are going down your drain they could negatively affect the good bacteria need to treat your wastewater in your septic system.

Q: I have a puppy in the hospital with Parvo. I have to sanitize everything she came into contact with. Will this help?
A: Lysol® Laundry Sanitizer kills 99.9% of bacteria like Staphylococcus Aureus & Klebsiella pneumoniae. Lysol® products have not been proven effective against Parvovirus.
submitted byRB Product Expert - 7 years agoBrand expertA: You should consult with a reputable vet about how to best kill Parvo. From experience I can tell you that it's not easy to kill & bleach is usually involved. As this product does not contain bleach I'm doubtful it would be effective. You can always call the number on the bottle to be 100% sure.

Q: How smelly is it? I prefer unscented...
A: It's not the worse smell but trust me your clothes will come out smelling fresh and clean. Someone said to add it to the rinse cycle or Fabric softner cycle but I use mine with detergent and detergent booster .
submitted byKimmeeT - 8 years agoA: They now make an unscented variety. This isn't it.
