Q: Is the Mario Kart World game on the physical card itself or is it just a license key/download code which requires an internet connection and sufficient local storage within the Switch 2 unit itself?

submitted by Kevin Li - 2 months ago
  • A: Hi Kevin Li, thanks for reaching out about Mario Kart World - Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo is putting a special white banner on the bottom of Game-Key Card boxes that says "GAME-KEY CARD" and usually indicates the required download size. For Mario Kart World, you should expect the game to be predominantly on the physical card. But it's always good practice to check the box for any "Game-Key Card" labeling, especially for third-party titles on the Switch 2. If you have any additional questions, we welcome you to contact MyTGTtech at 833-848-8324 every day, between 7am-11pm CST.

Beat installment of Mario Kart so far!

Controversial take: I love the open world and its “intermission” roads! MKW takes advantage of the Switch 2’s updated capabilities by using the open world to immerse you in beautiful scenery, decorated with vivid colors and outstanding graphics. I love how one area transitions to another, including weather changes and nighttime driving. I find that having more to do beyond drive on courses compiled of the same 4 laps holds my attention longer and keeps me coming back to the game. True, there are a few stretches where there is not a ton going on (beyond the 23 other drivers creating chaos!). But, for the most part, there’s plenty to learn, do, and see on those roads. I enjoy my time on the them as much as the regular courses. And in 150cc mode, even the few less-intense stretches go by quickly. The addition of the Knockout Tour and Free Roam are fun new ways to experience the world. And the world is MASSIVE, shockingly immersive, and beautiful. It would have been disappointing if MKW was merely an update of its predecessor with no new elements. But, importantly, this installment retains what I love most about the Mario Kart franchise — the delightful characters, bizarre vehicles, fun courses, and general mayhem!

Such a letdown

Huge departure from MK8. If you're all about speed and track difficulty, MKW is a huge letdown. The open world style is a fun gimmick but gets old quick. Overall the play feels super slowed down and the wall / grind mechanic isn't particularly exciting. Such a bummer.

My family and I have been having a blast playing through all the different tracks and rallys. The new gimmick of the game is driving from track to track and while it’s not perfect, it is a lot of fun. Take the negative reviews with a grain of salt. If you think you’d enjoy this game, it’s definitely worth the $80 as it will provide you with hundreds of hours of entertainment.

Half the game Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was. Tracks are meh, no more customization, mechanics don’t feel as good, and the new grinding feature is a novelty. AI is also crazy overtuned, especially in 150cc and the more you play a track the more you know exactly when you’ll be getting shelled every single time. I at least scored a bundled Switch 2 to soften the cost blow a bit, this would honestly be one star if I paid $80 for this game.

This game is considerably over priced. The free roam is probably my favorite part of the game but you cannot do free roam with 2 players split screen. Makes the game a whole lot less enjoyable. I enjoy many of the classic Mario characters making new appearances as racers but the long drawn out interlude stretch’s between tracks can get old fast. So overall not very good. Disappointing coming from the previous Mario kart game on original switch.

I love this game! The graphics are great and I love how the boards are longer. The new items to throw at your opponents are good. I also love how you can race with 24 racers. It makes it more challenging because the computers get better and adapt to how good that you race. Sometimes they know all of the short cuts, so it’s really challenging to keep and to win.

This should have been an incredible new Mario Kart game. The rails and wall riding mechanics enable a large amount of creativity and skill in finding the fastest route. Like Mario Kart Wii, it is rewarding if you put forth the time and effort to learn and practice these tricks and shortcuts. However, it really seems Nintendo is discouraging this, as they removed individual lap times in time trials, and most races only have a single lap of the actual track. Most grand prix (and now online) races feature long "connecting tracks" which are primarily just straight sections of road, which the actual tracks (which were designed very well) only being played for one lap. This does not give players the option to properly compete and showcase skill if they are only driving in straight lines and relying on items to get them ahead. The player base seemed to be in general agreement on this, as a previous guaranteed way to get these 3-lap tracks online was to select "random" in worldwide races. Thus, most players would be "voting" for random to get these three-lap tracks. Nintendo did not like this, so they forced an update upon everyone making it such that random gives 3-lap tracks probably 40-50% of the time. Now, most races online are spent driving on boring, straight lines, which is the last thing I want to do after driving on a real-life highway to get home from work. Nintendo clearly seems to want players to play the game Nintendo's way, not the way the fans want to play. This would be a bit more forgivable if the game was $50, but this is an $80 game, and Nintendo clearly does not care what the core fanbase thinks.

Paying $80 seems steep but the game is well worth it. Games were 50 to 60 in the 90s. If the price worries you, just wait for a used copy. The new modes are great as are the classics. Knockout and free roam are wonderful additions. It’s great for all ages.

Straight off the rip, you can immediately Free Roam without proper introductions and I can appreciate that. This game is much more fun and challenging than other Mario Kart games almost harkening to 64 and GameBoy era Mario Kart but with a fresh new coat of paint. New Outfits and Places to experience and enjoy, this is an amazing Mario Kart game and well worth the buy. Races are more interesting and engaging than older games where the challenge is basically to get to first whilst this is basically “SURVIVE”. Chaos in blue-overalls, Mario Kart World brings it in the forefront, and the Music… is amazing and well worth the extra $20!

Fun nostalgic and modern at the same time. Def had issues with starting it in the new switch 2 as I logged in my switch Led account and downloaded the game in the bundle. It didn’t work on the switch 2 cuz it was detected that I was logged in the Nintendo switch led. Had to then call Nintendo to sort out what to do, since the game already got downloaded on the switch 2 and can’t play. Frustrating start for sure. Def over priced I’d say the game is worth 65 at most.
