Book Synopsis

Hardly anyone knows his name. But where she counts, among hit men, innkeepers, thieves and guardians of order, she prefers to be called Matarratas... The business is simple in Lake City: selling protection in the taverns, offering retribution and revenge, removing problematic beings from the middle. Slayer lives off his cunning, his agility, and the effectiveness of his swords. Until he receives a peculiar assignment: to find and execute an individual much more powerful and sinister than usual. The hit man usually works alone. But this time she has to take care of Agua, the frail young woman who commissioned the murder, and travel accompanied by Clavo, a quiet and mysterious servant who displays unusual and suspicious skill with weapons. And the pay is too great to say no. Soon Matarratas will understand that killing for money is more dangerous than ever when the rich, the rulers, the secret owners of the city are involved.
