Under suitable conditions, these spores can develop into fungi or mold. Our growing media products are not sterilized and may contain microorganisms, including fungi. In fact, fungi have been scientifically proven to enhance plant growth, which is why we do not sterilize our soil. Mold growth only becomes problematic when there is an overgrowth. This overgrowth typically occurs when the soil excessively wet. The mold that grow on our soils and mulch are generally safe for humans. However, we recommend wearing gloves when handling these materials as a precautionary measure. To address fungal growth, we recommend the following steps: For unused soil: Allow the soil to dry out completely on some newspaper outside before using it. For used soil: Allow the plants to dry out slightly between waterings. This will not harm the plants. Allow the soil to dry out: As the soil dries, the mold, fungi, and moss will subside. Prevent recurrence: Once the mold or fungi have subsided, they should not return as long as the surface is not kept excessively moist, which would promote their growth.
