Not great, but fun
Not Tim Burton's best film, but far better than his worst. The time travel logic used to justify the climax and ending is probably the most inconsistent and nonsensical I've ever seen. That said, the casting is pretty solid, there are some really cool characters, some amazing and terrifying visuals, fun action scenes (the underwater stuff is particularly cool), and a great villain (Samuel Jackson is really funny and scary at the same time). It's a guilty pleasure I got for a very low price ;)

I read the first book years ago and enjoyed the quirkiness of it. When my son was old enough, he read it as well and we went to see the movie in the theater. The movie is different from the book but the same storyline is there. I very much enjoyed both so we now own the movie!

I'm a big Tim Burton fan and this movie is an example of why. Great cast and fantastic effects. I did not read the book and I will not just so it doesn't ruin the movie for me. Got at great deal too, $10 for Blu-Ray combo pack!

extremely excellent movie mostly based on the 1st book though the made up parts near the end of the movie followed what the books would have shown if the author had been insightful enough to have himself though of it. I have recently listened to the books (yes books) they where very good, I have enjoyed both the movie and books and would reccomend the movie to all who ask.

Read the book
If you have never read the book, this movie might be ok. Our family loves everything Tim Burton, but did NOT like this movie. I just got done reading the books, there are 3. From the 1st few minutes of this movie, the story changes. The main characters best friend is switched with a co worker and the the MALE therapist is a now a WOMAN! That one was too much for me. If you read the book, don't watch this movie. Sorry Tim Burton, we still heart you...I think...
