[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Free Parking Jackpot is a controversial part of Monopoly in our home. Everyone seems to have their own version of what happens! So after introducing the set rules of the free parking jackpot, there’s no confusion. It adds so much more excitement to the game. Landing on Free Parking lets you collect all the money accumulated from taxes and penalties… making the game end abruptly with an underdog taking the win. The Free Parking Jackpot rule can really speed up the game because it gives players a big cash infusion. It can also help someone who's behind catch up quickly. I love that it makes the game have a random streak, since a lucky roll can suddenly give one player a huge advantage, regardless of their strategy or property holdings. So in our house, it added nothing but excitement to the game and avoids so much confusion! We love it!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have to admit, when I hear “expansion” I immediately think it is going to be something that makes the game more complex and longer. But in the fine print on this box, it reads “makes the game faster” and boy does it. First, it is really going to mess with the banker, you know the one that pockets a few bills each transaction? Well, money from the Free Parking Jackpot now gets dropped directly into a big pile that everyone can see, far less goes through the hands of the banker, so good luck there. And, there are bonus cards to give you free properties or free houses, so no money moving through the banker there, either. That playing field just got a lot more even. So, let’s talk logistics, set up your Monopoly Board (you will need a full board game in addition to this expansion), and slide “spin” spots over Chance and Community Chess spaces, and slide the Free Parking spinner attachment over the parking spot on the board. You get a pack of Bonus cards in the Free Parking Jackpot kit. These cards are used in place of Chance and Community Chess (sorry beauty pageant queens, you get to sit this one out). You get to spin when you land on a property you own, when you land on a spin space, or when you hand in a spin chip (which you can collect, instead of rent, when someone lands on your property). Spins add up quickly. When you land on Free Parking, you get the Jackpot, a Bonus card, and drive the Deal Mobile (a new shiny piece, also in the expansion kit). Fair warning, the spinner has both good and bad pie slices. Red slices, you pay into the Jackpot, green slices get you the jackpot, a free house, the ability to buy any open property, or the Deal Mobile. When you are driving the Deal Mobile, you can acquire open properties you land on for free and you pay no rent to others. Now you see how this game has turned into a sprint! It is a lot of fun to play. The expansion kit arrived a couple weeks before the holiday, which gave us something fun and new to do during our break. I highly recommend it, especially for those who love to mix things up with “house rules”. The rules were easy to pick up on, and there is a little reminder card for each player, to help out. I plan to look into other expansion kits so we can mix and match game-playing experiences. Get yours, today, and enjoy!

Instead of being a boring rest stop, Free Parking becomes a full-blown jackpot zone, collecting all taxes, fines, and fees. It adds chaos, drama, and keeps broke players in the game. The free parking expansion replaces the chance and community chest cards. This makes the game a little more exciting as players have the opportunity to experience the gold car which literally makes you king of the game. They love getting the golden car where you can buy any unowned property. When you hit the jackpot it’s usually pretty full of payments. It really does make the game go by faster.

I figured this expansion would add some light-hearted chaos. Instead, I found myself in a libertarian fever dream where luck is king, fairness is a myth, and the Free Parking space is now basically a tax haven. The twist in this version? Every time someone pays a fine, tax, or rent, the money piles up in the center—like a dragon’s hoard of economic injustice—until someone lands on Free Parking and scoops it all. So of course, by turn three, my father-in-law was actively aiming for jail just so he could pay fines into the jackpot, boosting the pile and then swooping in with the grace of a hedge fund manager on a sugar high. At one point, the jackpot had over £4,000 in it. My brother-in-law landed on it, screamed “Boris delivers again!” and started giving tax advice. My mother-in-law, flush with Free Parking wealth, bought every station and declared the railways “finally back in the hands of responsible private owners.” Meanwhile, I landed on Income Tax for the fifth time and was told “it builds character.” This expansion should honestly come with a warning label: May cause ideological whiplash and a desperate urge to read The Communist Manifesto aloud at the dinner table. Would I recommend Free Parking Jackpot? If you enjoy watching unregulated wealth accumulation while being told it's your fault for not "rolling better," absolutely. Otherwise, stick to regular Monopoly—where at least your suffering feels mildly equitable.

It modifies the classic monopoly rules slightly and adds more unique rules to the game. There are a few new rules that can make the game a little confusing at first but after you understand them it becomes very fun and easy to follow. You will need a lot of luck to play this one and if you thought the classic monopoly breaks families and friendship you better be prepared for a war with this one (lol). We have only played it with two players and I can't wait to play with my whole family. I definitely will be buying the other extensions to the game too.
