Description
This is an 8 inch powered subwoofer capable of producing 60 watts (RMS) output. The subwoofer has a frequency response range of 50 to 250Hz with a lowpass crossover filter, which can be adjusted from 50 to 150Hz. Gain and frequency knobs on the control panel allow you to adjust the crossover filter and the power output for the optimum blend and balance of bass output with your stereo or surround speakers. The subwoofer has multiple input options, which allow it to be used with any existing stereo or 5.1 (or greater) amplifier system. For each input there is a corresponding output. High-level inputs accept a full-range signal from the amplifier's stereo speaker outputs. When connecting the unit as part of a 5.1 system, these would be taken off the front left and front right outputs in parallel to the standard pair of front speakers. The subwoofer provides its own power and includes impedance matching circuitry, so this will not reduce the power output to the front speakers or affect the overall impedance load on the amplifier. Additionally, the subwoofer has a set of right/left Line Level inputs. If using a standard stereo system, without a special subwoofer output, you can connect these to the left and right line level outputs on the amp. The subwoofer will then combine the signals to process the mono bass signal it needs to drive the speaker. If you are using an amplifier with a single mono subwoofer line level output, simply use an RCA Y cable to split the output and send it to the two line level inputs on the subwoofer. The subwoofer is housed in an attractive black wood cabinet that measures 13.75 inch x 11.75 inch x 11.75 inch (H x W x D). The driver and a 2 3/4 inch sound port are located on the front, covered by a black cloth speaker grill. An optional Auto-On function puts the subwoofer system into power-saving standby mode after about 2 minutes of no audio input detected. Alternatively, the Auto-On function can be disabled, allowing the unit to be on whenever the power switch is in the on position. A 2 amp/250 volt fuse protects the system from short circuits or power overloads.

I must admit this subwoofer exceeds my expectations by a long shot. I've only had it a short time so I'll see if it keeps amazing me in the upcoming months/years. I am very happy with this purchase. Keep up the good work Monoprice!!
Great for small room.

Using this subwoofer in a dedicated room for computers, the room is not that large 11'x12' and the subwoofer works great, a space much larger and I think the bass would get lost but for it's current situation it works fine.

I did considerable research before buying and was not disappointed. There is no hum at all in my unit. It works as expected and the bass is quite good and more than adequate for my bedroom.

This subwoofer blended well with my small-speaker 5.1 system. My only complaint is the auto-standby isn't sensitive enough and shuts down too quickly. I've adjusted the AV receiver settings to provide more signal to the subwoofer but it still has a tendency to shut off. So I ended up having to disable auto-standby and leave it on all the time. On the other hand, it seems to consume about 5 watts in standby, and 7 watts when left on without a signal, so there is only a 2-watt difference. If your receiver has a switched outlet, that would likely be a better solution than auto-standby anyway. With that minor drawback, I still very much like the subwoofer and the price can't be beat.
Perfect subwoofer for smaller rooms

Very happy. Because my stereo receiver doesn't have a subwoofer connection I hooked it up through my headphone connection. Easy to regulate the base through both the back of the subwoofer and the receiver as well.
High quality for the price.

The subwoofer is working great. I hooked it up to the Monoprice DT-4BT 60-Watt Multimedia Desktop Powered Speakers to my laptop. It really pumps out the base. Not had any problems with hum that other reviewers have said to have.
Monoprice 8in 60-Watt really doesn't cut it

there's just no bass going on hear, your going to want the bass at the max it can do, but then the next thing you turn on makes it chuff... if you tune it to be okay with the samole with the most bass, the next thing you hear you won't hear it... it can work as an extra lower range woofer in the room, hard to call it a sub. maybe in very small room as a near field with low watt speakers. paired with a jamo 803 pack, in a basement man cave, I'm barely hearing it at all. on the other hand I paid $30 so I did get what I paid for at that price, don't pay more and don't expect to feel any bass

This is a great unit for a small space. It is physically small and can fill a small space (20'x20') quite well.

I think this is a "you get what you pay for" situation. MP was blowing these out a few weeks ago for $27 and it had a bad hum. Sent it back and the replacement had the same issue. Based on this, this one doesn't seem to live up to the good reputation that Monoprice subs have. I replaced it with the $129 MP 8" "premium" sub and it is great.
Good deal that works great.

Using in a 10 by 15 room. The output on my receiver is one plug vs. two. Used a one into two RCA Male Plug from Monoprice. Works great. For the size and wattage, it adds a lot of depth to the rest of the surround sound.
Decent for right application, hums too much

Decent value if you're using this in a small room that already has background noise. Listening in a quiet room reveals an unacceptable amount of hum. Hum comes from internal amplifier independent of volume control and is present even without input cord connected, this cannot be removed.

Yeah, I'm getting the hum despite all efforts and suggestions to neutralize it. Even without the hum, the thing just sounds bad. It sounds like it's out of an 80's arcade game that's been submerged in water. This replaced (or was intended to replace) a 20-year old Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 system where the sub finally died. That only had a 6.5" sub but the bass was much, much cleaner and deeper. I generally like Monoprice stuff so this was disappointing. The nicest thing I can say about it is that it's better than nothing. I would not buy it again even for 1/2 the price.

Solid performer for the money. Bought this as a subport to my bookshelf speakers for playing all sorts of analog music. Works pretty good.
Nice and small, easy to place almost anywhere.

It's awful. To the point that it degrades the Monoprice brand as a whole because of how bad it is & yet they decided to still sell it to the public. I'll explain: Setup: It's plugged into the sub-out of my AudioEngine A1 monitors which are hooked up w/wire to my desktop. The volume & crossover freq knob on the subwoofer are all the way to the max. Turn on the music to test is out and.... Where's the bass? Hmm.. Let me put the volume up.. Ok it's kinda there but way too low. Sounds like something is wrong!! The output is anemic - like its on life support! To troubleshoot I used 4 different cables to make absolute sure it wasn't a cable issue. No difference. Then I plugged in another subwoofer. Other subwoofer works perfectly - so not a driver or equalizer/audio setting issue. Spent hours searching the web - nothing.. So I just have a subwoofer that makes barely audible bass, unless the system volume is incredibly loud - and then it distorts. The sub is awful in every way.
Hums when not in use. Returned.

This subwoofer emits a hum when no music is being played. The hum is too loud to ignore in my setting. I've returned it for a refund.
