NOT an equivalent for Hard Hold gel
The Not Your Mother's Hard Hold gel was my absolute holy grail product for my fine, wavy hair. I ordered this Flash Freeze gel thinking it was the same product -- it is NOT, and I'm very upset Not Your Mother's has discontinued their Hard Hold gel in favor of this inferior product. I gave it a good try for several months, and while it does hold my waves, it comes at a cost of dandruff-looking flakes and scalp irritation that I'm not willing to pay. That "same great formula" note in the product photos is a COMPLETE LIE. I don't mind a packaging or a name change, but the formula is absolutely not the same. Why in the world is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate an ingredient in a product meant to be left on the hair for an extended period of time? (It's not listed on this page, so perhaps they've reformulated this product again, but it is definitely listed on the bottle I received several months ago.) Citronellol, Limonene, and Linalool are also common irritants that this product has added, and my hair and scalp don't agree with them. The Hard Hold gel worked flawlessly without all of these irritants. so I don't see the point of them being in here. Why change what isn't broken???? I used to trust Not Your Mother's as a brand, but not anymore. If anyone in charge of product development at Not Your Mother's happens to read this, please bring back the Hard Hold gel *in its original formulation* and I'll sing your praises forever. Until then, I'm heartbroken that I now have to search for a new holy grail product after the years I already spent searching for the Hard Hold gel.

I am post menopausal, color my hair, and swim, a lot. So basically a recipe for dry hair. I love this Gel! After years of dealing with frizzy curls, this product created beautiful defined spirals with bounce. I've never received so many "your hair looks great" compliments. I use this with the Curl Cream and I am so happy with the result.

I used this gel as i would any other brand. And it maked my hair super hard and my hair would stick together. Might need to add water to thin it out so gel wouldnt clump up, and spread evenly.

Best Gel
I’ve found my hairs’ best friend. This gel is amazing — after a shampoo & conditioner, I’ll use a curl cream and then apply this gel while twisting my curl clumps making sure gel is coating each clump (hair is still wet) then I’ll either let it air dry or blow dry. Once my curls feel crunchy (the key!) I’ll use a hair oil and scrunch my curls until mostly soft & separate the clumps. I’ve done this twice so far and each time my curls have come out beautifully shiny and they last for a few days before needing a refresh. I still get frizz here and there but not like usual! I looked so long for a gel that would leave a crunch in my hair (I have a mix of 2C, 3A & 3B curls, & my hair is more fine but I have A LOT of it). A little goes a long way and my hair is long, past my shoulders. I love this gel! It’s a staple now!

This gel is terrible. It does not go onto your hair smoothly, it leaves your hair clumpy even if you comb it in. My hair felt sticky and got tangled within minutes. I had to wash my hair with shampoo twice to get the gel out.

I have heard lots of great things about this product and tried it using just a little dab knowing it was a stronghold gel. Sadly I had to wash my hair again within hours as even after scrunching out the crunch my hair was stiff and nasty.

As a 2c to 3a girlie, it has been pretty hard for me to find a good gel. Whenever I would style my hair, it would always turn out frizzy or flat. The curls at back of my hair always collapsed as the day went on, and my hair was a mess by day two. THIS GEL HAS CHANGED EVERYTHING. My hair is completely frizz free, shiny, and soft to the touch. (After I broke the gel cast.) I could not recommend this product enough.
