Q: Will this cut tops off of soda cans?

submitted by vdeishler - 8 years ago
  • A: I just tried it on an 8 oz can. Didn't work.

submitted byAnonymous - 8 years ago
  • A: I also had a problem with this because I could not see it working. After watching a YouTube video, I tried again and it still did not look like it was working. I went around the can twice and tried to lift the lid. It started coming up and though it looked like only part of it had cut, it was just a little tight. I lifted a little harder and it cam right up. I could also reuse the cover and it was a perfect fit. I was gouging to buy another electric can opener but I like this much better.

Q: Is this can opener suitable for LEFT handed people? The one we have now has the knob on the right side, and our daughter who is left handed is unable to use it. So, we are trying to find a new one.

submitted by Big George - 2 months ago
  • A: Hello! Thanks for your question. Our Smooth Edge Can Opener can be used as a left-handed or right-handed person. The can opener is to be hooked on the can while facing towards the can instead of being on the side of the can like a traditional can opener. However, the handle is slightly curved, so it may be more suitable for a right-handed person.

Q: How to fasten to can

submitted by Ffffff - 4 years ago
  • A: Hello, This is Payton from OXO. Thank you for your question on Target.com. You can fasten the opener to then can by latching the opener directly onto the top of the can. Next, start turning the knob to open. Best, OXO

Pros: lid fits back on can Cons: add metal slivers to food, doesn’t work with left handed people, half the time can doesn’t open. My collage can opener kicked the bucket after a few decades and I thought this can opener would be better since there is less chance of tiny humans hurting themselves with a lid. It has been hit or miss at opening cans, 1/3 of the cans it just doesn’t work, and another 1/3 need a second time around to cut the lip enough to open the can. After a month, I got pain when I lifted the can and noticed I had a splinter of metal jammed in my finger. Assuming it was a one time thing, I used the can opener again but noticed that it occurred again. (Pics) Some of the pieces stay stuck to the can but some are detached, making me worried they go into the food when I dump the contents. Grill brushes have been an issue with perforated intestines from the metal wire and I can’t imagine what this would cause especially because it happens almost every time I have tried the can opener since. I thought I was making a safer choice and this definitely is much more scary. I am going back to a normal can opener.

Stays clean, less force required than classic style can openers

I like these because they don't leave sharp edges and I get way less food residue on it from food in the cans so it stays relatively clean. It's only a tad bit finicky but it's way easier on my hands than the old style. The negative reviews about it being hard to use probably didn't read the instructions.

I love this can opener. It cuts underneath the top edge of the can, and you use the claw attached to remove the lid. It is the only can opener that I use. Here are the two cons: 1) Over time, the surface of the can opner becomes gummy and unpleasant to the touch. I wish that the company use a more durable plastic. 2) It is a bit hard to line up the opener to the can. However, once it has the proper alignment, it is good to go. Despite these two drawbacks, it is still my favorite can opener.

It's not good. The blade is not sharp enough or perhaps it doesn't press tight enough. DON'T KNOW! Either way it kind of just doesn't work well. Most of the time it takes multiple passes around the can. Do NOT recommend.

I had one of these for years that one worked perfectly. This one is garbage. It bends the can lid and does not cut through. I’m not sure I’ve ever been so frustrated with a product.

Oxo best manual can opener I ever owned. Very durable and easy to use I’ve had this one for almost ten years never messed up always opens cans so easy. Good grips turns easy, I would never buy another kind this is best. Electric no way takes up to much room this is portable easy to use and always dependable. I would recommend to everyone.

I wish the turning knob was on the side, like the old version. That was comfortable to use. It's not ergonomic at all to have it on the top. My hand gets tired quickly, which is annoying if you have multiple cans to open. Also, the part that takes the lid off, is weak which makes it hard to get the lid off.

I love how cleanly it cuts the lid so there's no sharp edges. It can be tricky to figure out if you're used to a standard one. And after years of use i discovered that the pincer at the side helps grab lids that stick. The only real downside is that you can no longer drain foods like tunafish using the lid. So either need a sieve or get a standard opener.

It’s fine. It’s not as nice as Oxo’s better model which is easier and cleaner to operate. But in sale and if not used often, it’ll do. I needed a can opener immediately after my old-style broke, and this was the third under $20 option I tried.

Have many OXO gadgets. This one is not worth the money. My son bought two, one for himself and one for me. Both do not open a can. They just mangle the lid and are difficult to put on and take off. A can opener should not be a project. Have a cheap one I bought at the supermarket. Going back to that one and throwing the OXO out.
