The OXO SoftWorks Locking Can Opener boasts both form and function. Squeeze the curved non-slip handles until the lock snaps shut around the lid. The lock holds the can in place as you turn the oversized, contoured knob. A stainless steel blade quickly and cleanly cuts through the lid. Once the can is opened, press the button with your thumb to pop the lock and release the can. Hand-wash only.

Have had this for a few years. I like that it locks and has a magnet to pull the can top off however the ergonomics of it is not appropriate for a left handed person. The durability is ok. It snagged on a can and the tines are slightly bent out of shape now.
The lock-in place fucntion allows seemless opening

The days of your hand cramping when trying to open a can are over! The slipping out of place once you've locked it in, not with this can opener! The OXO Gg Locking Can opener makes life just that much easier while in the kitchen. Not only does it open small cans with ease, but has the strength and versatility to open larger cans as well, all whilst being comfortable in your hand.

Usually OXO is pretty good but this won’t stay on the can and sometimes I have a hard time with the initial puncture/grabbing of the can. I guess I have to start checking can opener reviews, thought we mastered that.

Terrible. I have to fight to get it locked onto a can. Then it's very inconsistent with opening, and I have to go around the can numerous times to get it open all the way. Sometimes that doesn't even work, so I use a knife to pop the top off. Hate this thing..

Complete garbage. Doesn’t stay attached to the can. Had to throw away 3 cans of tomato paste that it destroyed trying to open before I finally got the 4th open enough to pry it open with a knife.

Bought in store so I didn't read these accurate reviews. It's awful! Hubby finally figured out it's a side opener (& saved dinner!) It doesn't stay attached and after fighting with it and eventually getting the can open, thin slices of can label ended up in our meal!

I bought this to replace an OXO can opener which broke after over a decade of regular use. On the first can I tried to open (28 oz. of crushed tomatoes), the gears never caught, which meant the can opener couldn't work its way around. I returned it, thinking a one-off issue, but had the same problem. Incredibly disappointed.

The real key to this can opener is exerting NO ADDITIONAL STRENGTH after the can has locked on. I had arthritis for many years, and my grip strength is garbage because of it. Normal can openers feel like running a marathon for my hands. I had to find another solution. This one takes a good strong squeeze to lock on, but once it's locked just turn the dial and don't touch anything else. My husband (who does not have arthritis) HATES this can opener for all the same reasons cited in many of the negative reviews. It's always been a breeze for me. So, maybe this is a better can opener choice if you have sad, weak hands like mine. 😅

i normally dont write reviews but i just chucked this can opener into the trash. if i could give it 0 stars i would. i love the OXO brand but man this thing SUCKS! quite literally the worst can opener. its doesnt open and when it starts to open something it comes off and stops. i have no clue how this has good reviews at all!

Worst can opener I have ever bought. Failed to do it's one purpose. If I could give it zero stars I would. It never stays latched on the lid. So you end up clamping and reclaiming repeatedly. And because of the stupid locking features it take so much longer to get it back on the can. What should take 10 seconds to open a can ends up being a 5-10 minute ordeal. Don't waste your money or your sanity!

I’ve somehow made it a few years with this can opener but I can’t do it anymore. It’s impossible to get on and when you finally do it doesn’t stay on as soon as you start turning. You have to stop/start 5 times just to get around a can
