I'm not sure about the bridge, I feel that it sells my data and that it is going to use the connection to share wifi.

They worked fine but would not pair with my Google Home app at all. Getting the Hue Bridge to connect to my internet was a challenge as well. Like a lot of other people said online It was an absolute nightmare to try to link to google home. I just linked it to my Apple Home account and it was much easier. We actually ended up just buying new bulbs (Cync by GE) because they connected lightning fast to Google Home. I did like the Hue app, I think it is user friendly if you don’t have a bunch of smart devices linked to an ecosystem like SmartThings or Google Home.

Starter kit at a good deal!

I got the opportunity to get a great deal on one of their starter kits. Well worth the price. They don't have color but it's for a kitchen application…don't need colors in the kitchen. And it included the bridge which significantly dropped the cost of that. Since the bridge can be a bit pricey by itself, it can cause people to go to a product that doesn't require a bridge. But once you have the bridge, you have it and now can add anything you want from the Philips Hue line of products including lights, dimmers and switches, motion detectors and more. You can connect up to 50 items on one bridge. The 1600 lumen and 1100 lumen line of lights are great too. I have a 1600 lumen white only in my bathroom and it illuminates everything.

So far these are great, I regret not getting the color ones but these make life at night and the mornings nicer since we can dim lights based on who is awake and who is asleep. We also have light strips in the kitchen, simply great!

I love that you had two hue bulbs and the hue bar is easy to use. I am about to use the two lights this week and I am excited that this works with Apple HomeKit and it is less expensive a bit

Up until today I would have rated this product 5 stars because they are the only smart bulbs I have used that work exactly how they are supposed to. There’s no significant delay between when you hit the ‘on’ button on your phone or other device, they work with the Apple HomeKit, and they’re fairly easy to setup and don’t randomly disconnect and need to be setup again. However, two of the bulbs burnt out in the last two weeks and they’re in fixtures that don’t get used as much as most. I’ve only had these bulbs for a year and they already need to be replaced. I don’t know how long it says the life is supposed to be but I know the two that died were way under the number of hours they are “supposed” to last. At $14.99 per bulb that’s simply unacceptable. The fact that they are only sold as an integrated system and have such a short life is unfortunate for an otherwise great product. I have them in almost every lamp and fixture in my house but will be switching to smart switches and outlets as the rest of them burn out because those don’t just die when the bulb burns out. I’m thankful I didn’t buy any of the color bulbs because if I had I’d be furious because those are way more expensive. It’s a disappointing day for this smart home fan. :(

Stopped working. Plugged into a surge protector with other items and was the only thing that shorted out.

The model advertised is the most recent - the one with Bluetooth. However, in store it is the previous generation model - NOT the same thing. What a massive disappointment and a huge waste of my time.

Great lights and super easy to set up, the directions and app were self explanatory. My son loves turning on the lights with my phone and being able to dim them, calling his room the smart room now! Thanks for a super cool product!
Must have an Ethernet port to use
2 out of 5 stars
Andrea - 5 years ago
No where on the box did it Day you have to have an Ethernet connection. So I bought these this unit they connect via blue tooth or WiFi like everything else these days. I share the WiFi with my landlords so I do not have a router to connect to. I manage to find an old extender, but my phone won’t connect to that because of weak security. I wasted 2 hours trying different methods of setting this up, nothing but frustration. Had I have known this I wouldn’t have even bought them. Please label this so others know. So many renters are of WiFi and don’t have an Ethernet connection, and I don’t want to buy another extender to try it again. I wasted enough time time tonight. The color is really pretty, i was really looking forward to them

If you want only hue lighting products it woks great. pretty easy to setup and link with Echo Dot. No wires to run put "tap" or Dimmer switches or indoor rated motion sensors anywhere. I could do that 40 years ago with x10 devices and controllers, there is nothing new here. Just really disappointed by the versatility and options of this product line. no 100 watt indoor lamp bulbs no outlet controllers no magnetic contact switches no door/window switches no outdoor rated switches of any kind no darkness detectors Just really disappointed with Hue and the native Hueniverse I will say that all of the Hue products in the Hueniveres work just fine without invading your privacy or your email box If you want to do anything that requires the "bridge" controller you have to give away your privacy. It will not allow you to operate the bridge without allowing access to your mobile phone personal details including your physical house location. The phone app monitors your location/mobile phone number/email address.

Higher Priced Tech Lighting

Once the starter kit is set up and programmed to a schedule (which takes some interest & understanding of tech applications), the system behaves as expected and can easily be controlled with dimming features from the Hue App on a mobile phone. The cost of the starter kit and the individual bulbs to expand the kit are higher priced, but once installed, can create a mood to your liking. I focused on setting up the white starter kit and separately purchased 2 white ambiance and one color bulbs for my family room where we spend most time and near the hub. The color bulb is being used on the floor in an up light and the white bulbs in lamps around the room on tables.

We love these lights. We got them to work with our google mini's on lamps and lights that don't have light switches connected to them and to a few other light fixtures. We set them on timers to turn on and off at certain times of the day and they do what you ask them to through our google mini's and phone app. Only thing is that sometimes when you have 2 or more lights under the same name, it only turns off one when asked to turn all of them off. Probably just a glitch with this technology so far but still love them.
Overall good product.

So far the system is pretty good. I'm having a little trouble with getting the Sunset/Sunrise feature working right. I, like a lot of people am surprised at the cost of Hue bulbs.
