This is an excellent book for ANYONE. In a time where many folks seem to be regressing instead of progressing by picking and choosing which parts of history to acknowledge and which, due to lack of understanding, to ignore, this tells an important and true story about being brave in the face of adversity.

This is a beautiful, inspiring children’s book that talks about the creation of the rainbow flag as a symbol of pride, and about how it was created as a way of giving hope to the LGBTQ+ community. It also discusses Harvey Milk, the 1st openly gay person to be elected to public office in CA. The illustrations are gorgeous and filled me with hope just seeing them. There is nothing “inappropriate” about this book (though there is discussion about Harvey Milk’s life “being taken by someone who didn’t think like him, feel like him, or love like him”, which I think was well-worded in a child-friendly way, but something to consider if reading to/around younger kids and not ready to talk about this kind of death). So many good messages in this book about loving and accepting others, having hope in dark times, and fighting for change. Highly recommend this book!

Such an awesome and easy to read children's book about Harvey Milk and the Rainbow Flag! A must have book for LGBTQA+ families and Allies to help teach children important American history topics that are not talked about. Our family read this book on May 31st to prepare for PRIDE month which is in June!
