Great movie for the kids, a little overpriced in my opinion

If you ever attempt to compile a list of the 100 greatest movies ever made, you’ll quickly find, as I once did, that it’s no easy task. When I gave it a shot a few years ago, I’d not seen The Lion King but, if I ever decide to work on the list again, this animated Disney classic will most definitely appear on it. My guess is that something like 95% of people who have seen this movie enjoyed it purely based on its entertainment value, and by that measure alone, it is excellent. The animation is nothing short of amazing, as is the musical score, and the voiceovers by the likes of James Earl Jones, Jeremy Irons, and Matthew Broderick are artfully effective. Lastly, it must present quite the challenge for filmmakers to turn animated, talking animals into compelling, relatable characters, but the writers and producers did just that with this project. But the greatest asset of The Lion King, that which sets it apart from other entertaining films, is found in its overarching message. Who would expect a Disney animated feature to deal with the pain of loss, childhood trauma, depression, avoidance, and so forth? Herein lies a brilliant illustration of the reality that when we abrogate personal responsibility, we harm not only ourselves, but also those who depend on us and, in so doing, upset the balance of things in general. We should neither dwell on our past nor run from it; we must confront and overcome it. Short-term pleasure- the easy way out- only serves to enhance long-term pain. Envy leads to bitterness, bitterness leads to hatred, and hatred will always, in the end, cause us to wind up in the fiery pit where we will be devoured. If you watch The Lion King, you will see that this praise only scratches the surface. If you’ve seen it and watch it again, you will likely find several things you missed the first time and appreciate all over again. For my money, this is one of the greatest films ever made.

The Lion King is an awesome movie and at a good price. My kids ( and myself ) loved this movie when they were young and now my grandson loves it.

My favorite Disney movie!! I've seen it so many times and have been lucky enough to see the play 3 times. I laugh, smile, sing the song and cry while watching it. I even named a kitty after Simba.

Lion King is a classic!

After repeatedly renting The Lion King at our local video store I finally purchased this for my son and I couldn't be happier great value for the price I love that it includes a digital copy so that it can be downloaded on my son's tablet for those long car rides

My favorite Disney movie!!

So glad you can still get the Disney classics! I watched this many time as a child and am going to share it with my nieces and nephews. This is a great story with wonderful characters and music. And it includes all versions! I got this on Cyber Monday for an excellent price.

I love the lion king.

My 4 Year old loved it!! It was my favorite as a kid and now I get to share it with her! We have watched it at least once every day since she received it from St. Nick! “The Circle of Life”
