    Not worth it

Attempted to dye a white 100% cotton jacket. I followed the directions for the bucket method and washing afterwards, it pulled all the color out, leaving a dark purple/grey with splotches of white. Tried to re-dye it again and did not wash it afterwards. It isn’t a true black. I would not recommend the product.

    Not true black

My white clothes came out more of a dark charcoal with some lavender undertones. I was hoping for a true black but that was with the hot water and plastic bucket method. I believe you may get better results on a stove top.

    Like brand new

I have to wear all black to work. When my fav items start to fade I put 1-3 bottles of this in the washing machine with my work clothes to freshen them up. Works great and they come right back to life. The dye will stain your washer so I always run a bleach load right after. Also they dye will bleed out and stain its neighbors for many washes afterward so I always sort the black/dyed items from anything I don’t want stained. Been doing this for decades with no plans in stopping.

    Waste of money for us

This did not work for me. I was trying to dye my sons blue jeans to black. They never reached a black state and after a few washes they are back to the original color.

    Turned out purple

Looked good before washing (black) & even used the second Rit product to help with color retention. Did 60 minutes in the dye with the stove top method. Still came out purple. Dyed my white doc a tot because toddler took black dry erase marker to it & couldn’t get it out. Stained area that was cleaned with alcohol & wood cleaner took black the best 🤦♀️

Really temperamental and tricky dye to work with!

I'm guessing that success depends on the color you pick and the fabric you are using. I used the Black dye on 2 sets of 100% cotton sheets and pillowcases that had gotten a bit dingy, and one set turned out kind of purpleish, and the other turned out a bit greenish. Why? Who knows... I used the right amount of dye, and near boiling water, stirring well, and leaving the items in the dye bath fo a very long time, so who knows why the two sets of sheets are now different colors. However, it is still better than "dngy." Just an FYI, you should buy more bottles than you think you need. in order to get decent color saturation.

    Deep and Versatile

When it comes to dyeing fabrics, Rit has been a trusted name in the industry for decades. Today, I'll be reviewing their 8oz All Purpose Dye in the color Black. Whether you're a seasoned crafter or a DIY enthusiast, this dye offers versatility and reliable results. First and foremost, the intensity of the black color achieved with Rit's All Purpose Dye is remarkable. The dye saturates fabrics thoroughly, delivering a deep, rich black hue that is sure to impress. Whether you're revamping an old garment or customizing fabric for a creative project, this dye provides a truly opaque and even coverage. One of the standout features of this product is its versatility. The Rit 8oz All Purpose Dye is suitable for a wide range of fabric types, including cotton, linen, silk, nylon, and more. This adaptability makes it a go-to choice for various dyeing projects, as it allows you to work with multiple materials without the need for different dyes. It's worth noting that this dye is not intended for use on polyester, acrylic, or acetate fabrics. Another positive aspect is the ease of use. The dye comes in a convenient 8oz bottle, which is enough for dyeing small to medium-sized fabric items. The instructions provided are clear and concise, making the dyeing process straightforward for both beginners and experienced users. Additionally, the dye is compatible with various dyeing techniques, such as immersion, tie-dye, and even dip-dyeing. This versatility gives you the freedom to experiment and unleash your creativity. The colorfastness of Rit's All Purpose Dye is commendable. After dyeing, the color remains vibrant and resists fading, ensuring your fabric maintains its stunning black shade even after multiple washes. However, it is always recommended to follow the care instructions for your specific fabric to ensure long-lasting results. While Rit's All Purpose Dye is undeniably a top-quality product, it's important to mention that it may not be suitable for achieving extremely precise or custom shades of black. If you're looking for a very specific color, you might want to consider professional dyes or mixtures. However, for most everyday dyeing needs, this dye is more than sufficient. In conclusion, Rit 8oz All Purpose Dye in Black is a reliable and versatile option for anyone looking to dye fabrics. With its intense black color, compatibility with various fabric types, and user-friendly application, it delivers consistent results. Whether you're a DIY enthusiast or a professional crafter, this dye is a valuable addition to your creative arsenal. Give it a try, and you'll be amazed at the transformative power it holds for your fabrics.
