Kids’ measuring guide

Use the tips & visuals in this guide to make taking your child's body measurements easy-peasy.

Dont have a fabric tape measure? Use a shoelace or pant leg to measure. Then, lay it flat & use a ruler or tape measure to get a numerical measurement.

How to measure

  • Height

    Have your child stand in front of the fridge.Mark the top of the head with a magnet. Measure a straight line from floor to magnet.

  • Chest

    Have your child make airplane arms. Wrap tape measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping it level & snug.

  • Waist

    With your child bending to one side, measure the point where the waist flexes naturally. Keep the tape level & comfortably loose.

  • Hip

    Have your child stand like a tall tree with feet together. Measure a level line around the fullest part of the hips & seat.

  • Inseam

    Take a pair of pants that fit your child well. Measure along the seam from crotch to leg opening.

    Not the Same Short as the "Girls Athletic Short"

    Please bring back the Girls Mesh Athletic Shorts (with the stripe down the sides) because this short is a sad replacement. No pockets, not stripes.

    New mesh fabric catches and tears

    We have been buying these shorts for over ten years and last year the mesh fabric changed to something that easily catches and rips open. My daughter has pairs with two inch rips in them now. I wanted a replacement but was told that because we removed the hip tag (not the LE or size tag) and it was longer than 6 weeks, they would not replace them. It would be great if they would use the durable fabric that they used to use.

    Poor fit

    I bought a pair of these gym shorts for my granddaughter. They fit fine in the back, waist, and legs, but the area below the waist is very baggy.

    Awful

    These shorts are awful. Unfortunately it looks like LE is discontinuing the much nicer option with the white stripe, and now this is what we are given as an option with our uniform. The cut is more like a boys' cut, the material is thin and feels cheap and there are no pockets. Bring back the version with the white stripe and better quality!

    Good but both sizes weren’t a great fit.

    I bought L for my 11 year old daughter. She has long legs and the shorts felt too short but it fit her waist. We bought XL but they were ridiculously big. Felt like too big of a diff between the 2 sizes. If it wasn’t for the school req we wouldn’t have kept either of them.

    Runs very small

    Bought these as part of my daughter’s PE uniform. She is just starting to wear girls size large. These were very tight and poor quality. Can’t be returned because they were embroidered with the school logo.

    PE uniform short

    I bought this short for my daughter PE uniform,it’s really bad fabric, she only wears once per week, totally worn about 9-10 times to now and this PE short kept stripping, look ugly.

    Great fit, comfort, appearance.

    The Girls Mesh Gym Shorts I've bought the last 3 years since granddaughter has attended private school whose uniform choice is navy blue shorts under jumper. She is very particular about the feel of clothing on skin. She absolutely LOVES the shorts! I'll be buying the same shorts for the next 9 years!

    They are OK for boys, not girls!

    Good quality mesh shorts but they are made for boys, not girls. The elastic is too tight and the drawstring is too short.

    Came a little smaller then I expected

    I bought this thing last month and the shipping and everything else came good but these shorts and the shirt were too small and I ordered them medium and large and it came as a small
