Laura Tremaine is the friend sherpa we need!
I consider myself someone who is friendly and able to make friends fairly easily, but this book helped me understand those relationships at a much deeper level. Laura also helped me understand that these 10 friendships don't happen at the same time which is WILDLY comforting since I am missing some seats on my Life Council. It also took the pressure off of being the same kind of friend to every friend I have. It's a must-read if you care about the folks in your life who you may not be legally obligated to love :-)

mediocre self help book
THE LIFE COUNCIL discusses ten types of friends for women to have, how to make and keep friends, how to be a better friend, and when to end a friendship. THE LIFE COUNCIL is written in a friendly easy-to-read tone that feels like you’re having a casual chat with the author. Being fairly short, it was a quick read. It can definitely be difficult to make and keep friends as an adult so I was interested to see what this book had to offer. Unfortunately, there’s not really any ground-breaking information given. I’m sure that for the right audience, this book could be tremendously helpful. I’m not sure why the book needed to be gendered and focus on the friends that specifically women need with examples being of other women. Friendship doesn’t need to conform to gender constructs. The author has a podcast and has previously written another book, both of which I am unfamiliar with. I don’t know if having prior knowledge of her work would have impacted my reading of this book. THE LIFE COUNCIL was ultimately a mediocre self-help book that I wasn’t the right audience for but may be of benefit for others looking to read about friendships specific to women. Thank you to Zondervan for the giveaway copy.

Not Helpful
Everyone would love to have the big group of "ride or die" friends that you see on social media, but instead you have a small group of acquaintances? Trying to find friends while life is crazy and busy can be hard. But what if making new friends and strengthening the relationships you have now was easier? In The Life Council, Laura Tremaine explains that making new friends isn't as hard as we all think. I thought this book might help teach me ways to make new friends but it definitely didn't. Instead, it just gave 10 labels that you can put on people. There was maybe one small chapter with suggestions on how to make new friends but it was very unhelpful. They were either common suggestions that everyone knows or suggestions that weren't applicable to me because I don't work in Hollywood and have a famous husband like Laura Tremaine. Waste of time to read.
