Would not use or buy again

Used the meater plus for the first time today. Had an energiser lithium battery in it for 24 hours. The probe keeps disconnecting from the base while its only 6 inches apart with only a thin metal sheet between them (hark smoker) and have the phone 2 feet away from the base. Connection dropped more than it connected. Would not reccommend would give 0 stars if i could. Would like jave this rectified.
1 reply from Traeger team - 17 days ago
Hi Ben, thanks for sharing your feedback. What you are describing sounds more related to range interference from the smoker structure rather than the probe itself, since metal surfaces and enclosed cookers can significantly reduce Bluetooth signal strength between the probe and the dock even at short distances. For the strongest performance, we recommend keeping the dock positioned as close as possible to the cooker opening with the logo side facing the probe, since the dock acts as the Bluetooth extender for the MEATER Plus system. A good next step would also be running a stability test in open air for about 30 minutes with the probe next to the dock to confirm the connection remains stable outside the smoker environment. The MEATER Plus is designed for up to 165ft total range in open air conditions, so if the behavior continues during an open air test, please contact us at +1 888-407-0303 so we can continue assisting you further and help get everything working as expected. Try Something Else

Works great... when it works. I had an earlier model that crapped out after about 18mos of use - the probe would no longer sync to the base or my phone, no matter how many times I changed the battery or cleaned the probe. Got a newer model as a gift - same issue... just up and stopped working
1 reply from MEATER team - 30 days ago
Steve, we really appreciate you sharing this, especially after giving both generations a fair chance. That kind of consistency in your experience is important for us to understand. When a probe works well for a period of time and then suddenly stops syncing entirely (even after replacing batteries, cleaning, and retrying setup), it usually points to the probe no longer maintaining a stable connection with the charger. That connection is essential, as it’s what allows the signal to be relayed to your phone. Once it becomes inconsistent, the probe may fail to sync no matter how many times you reset or retry. A good step to further confirm this is to place the probe back in the charger for about 20–30 minutes, ensuring it’s fully seated. When you remove it, check for a steady green light at the start. This indicates the probe is activating correctly. If that light doesn’t appear consistently or drops quickly, it’s a strong sign the connection isn’t being sustained. Also, making sure the contacts on both the probe and inside the charger are thoroughly clean and dry can help rule out any surface-level interference. That said, experiencing the same pattern across multiple units over time isn’t what we expect, and it’s understandable that this would impact your confidence in the product. We want to make sure you have something dependable every time you cook, not something you have to second-guess. Please reach out to us at support.meater.com. We’ll take a closer look at your case and work with you directly toward a solution that gets you back to a reliable and consistent experience.

    Disapointed

Worked for awhile now will mot connect thought it was good at first
1 reply from MEATER team - 29 days ago
Good day, we really appreciate you taking the time to share this, especially after having a good first experience with it. From what you’re describing, when a probe stops connecting after working initially, it usually means the link between the probe and the charger is no longer consistent. That connection is key because it’s what allows the probe to communicate with your phone. If it weakens over time, the probe may not reconnect even if everything else appears normal. To check this, place the probe in the charger for about 20–30 minutes, making sure it’s properly seated. When you remove it, look for a steady green light at the start. If that light doesn’t show consistently or drops quickly, it helps confirm the connection isn’t being maintained. It’s also a good idea to clean the contacts on both the probe and inside the charger, as small residues can affect both charging and connectivity. If you’re cooking with a grill or oven, keeping the charger as close as possible and reducing any obstruction can also improve stability during use. This kind of behavior isn’t expected, especially after it was working well before, and we want to make sure you have a dependable experience every time. Please reach out to us at support.meater.com. We’ll work with you directly and get this properly sorted.

    Not so great after all

Probes won’t stay connected during a cook. So after the cook I did a factory reset and I can get the block connected to Wi-Fi but it won’t connect to my phone.
1 reply from MEATER team - 1 month ago
Matt, we really appreciate you letting us know what’s been happening, especially after taking the time to reset everything. If the block connects to Wi-Fi but won’t connect to your phone, it usually means the local Bluetooth communication isn’t establishing properly. During cooks, if the probes keep dropping, that can also point to the probe not maintaining a consistent connection with the charger, which affects both range and stability. A good step is to place the probes in the charger for about 20–30 minutes, then remove it and check for a solid green light to confirm it’s fully active. Keep the charger very close to your phone during setup, and clear any previous MEATER pairings from your Bluetooth settings to avoid conflicts. Gently cleaning the contacts on the probes and inside the charger can also help restore a stable link. The behavior you’re seeing isn’t expected, and we want to make sure you can rely on it during every cook. Please reach out to us at support.meater.com and we’ll work with you directly to get this resolved and back to a smooth experience.

    Not a good product

I would only recommend this product if you wanted to relive 1990s era internet connection issues
1 reply from MEATER team - 2 months ago
Good day, we appreciate you taking the time to share this. Connection reliability is such an important part of the overall experience, so when it doesn’t perform consistently, it can really take away from the convenience and confidence the product is meant to provide. This is not the expected behavior, and your feedback is very important to us.When connectivity feels inconsistent, it’s often related to Bluetooth or Wi-Fi communication stability, stored app data, or the connection between the probe and charger not remaining steady throughout the cook. Even small interruptions can affect pairing and reconnection. Your comments help us better understand where improvements are most needed. Our team would be glad to take a closer look and help you work toward a more stable experience at support.meater.com.

old school BBQer luvs this new tech device

excellent device for BBQ. I use it on a Ninja Wood-fire Grill, a larger Taeger pellet grill, an even larger propane grill and an old school Weber kettle with charcoal and/or wood briquettes. I can set my cook and then wander the property tinkering with other stuff. The app reminds me when I need to attend to the meat. I am an old guy who often sux at technology. But I totally dig this device!

Welcome to the 21st Century temperature measuring!

I’ve gone through 3 sets of probes with my old “wireless” cooking thermometer (Maverick) due to the fragility of the probe wiring. This is an order of magnitude better communication for a home chef such as myself. I love this device!

Never works, even w/batteries and brand new iPhone

I got this as a birthday gift this past August 2025. This product, maybe it’s defective, has never worked once without fail; i.e. battery is never charged (I replaced with multiple new Duracell) or it looses connection to my brand new and updated iPhone (they’re literally within arms reach of each other). I don’t was going to get a newer Meater w/multiple probes but I’m afraid this is just going to happen again.
1 reply from MEATER team - 3 months ago
Good day, Russell. We appreciate you sharing this experience, this is certainly not the behavior we expect from your MEATER Plus. When a probe does not stay charged or loses connection even when the phone is very close, it usually indicates that the probe may not be completing a full recharge cycle or that the charging contact between the probe and dock is inconsistent. We recommend removing the probe and gently cleaning both the probe’s metal surface. After cleaning, place the probe back into the dock and allow it to charge for at least 2 hours to ensure a full recharge cycle. Once charged, remove the probe and reconnect it through the app while keeping the dock nearby. If the probe still does not maintain charge or continues to disconnect at close range after these checks, the behavior may indicate a hardware condition that we can review further. Our team can carry out a detailed diagnosis and determine the appropriate next steps. Please feel welcome to reach out to us at support.meater.com, and we’ll be glad to assist.

Do t trust reviews. Search forums.

Terrible hardware. Search forums for “ lost connection” or “can not connect to device” or “flashing red light”. I would not invest in products from this company.
1 reply from Traeger team - 3 months ago
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We understand that connection experiences are important when choosing a product. Most “lost connection” or flashing red light situations are related to range or signal interference rather than hardware. For best performance, please make sure the probe, dock, and mobile device are all within Bluetooth or WiFi range and that there are no thick walls or large metal objects between them, as these can interfere with the signal. It is also important to keep the probe out of the dock during a cook, since placing it back in the charger will put it into standby mode and disconnect it. If a mobile device moves too far from the dock or loses WiFi, the app will also show a disconnect message. If anyone is experiencing this and would like help reviewing their setup, we are available at +1 888 407 0303 and happy to assist further. MEATER

Good product, if it will pair with the base.

I've had my meter Plus for about 2 years. I've been happy with the way it's worked, when it works. The probe will no longer connect with the base. I followed all the instructions on the Meater website to repair clean, etc. The base appears to be working fine it flashes red when the probe is out of the base, and I get a steady green when I push the button. Guessing thatis the probe no longer takes a charge. I would say I probably used it a total of 12 to 15 times over the past couple of years. Kinda bummed.
1 reply from MEATER team - 3 months ago
Good day, we really appreciate you sharing this, especially after having a good experience with it over the past couple of years. It’s completely understandable to feel surprised when something that worked well stops connecting. The base behavior you described sounds normal. The flashing red when the probe is removed, and steady green when pressing the button, indicate the charger has power and is functioning properly. That helps narrow things down. If the probe no longer connects or appears to charge while docked, the most likely cause is internal battery degradation inside the probe or a breakdown in consistent charging contact between the probe and the dock. A good next step would be to remove the AAA battery from the base for a few minutes to reset it, install a brand-new alkaline battery, thoroughly clean both the probe’s charging ring and the dock contacts with rubbing alcohol, and then leave the probe seated in the dock for at least 20–30 minutes before checking the app. Make sure it’s fully inserted and held firmly by the magnet. Our support team would be glad to review your unit and explore available options with you. Please reach out at support.meater.com and we’ll take it from there.

    Fine when it worked

This is the 3rd one of these that has just quit working. I am tired of spending a lot of money and having it last for 5 or 6 cooks. Save your money and buy something that actually woeks! I am done with these guys!
1 reply from MEATER team - 4 months ago
Fred, we appreciate you sharing your experience, and what you’re describing is not how MEATER Plus is designed to perform. These probes are built to deliver consistent results over many cooks, so seeing repeated failures across multiple units is understandably discouraging. When this happens, the most common underlying cause is a breakdown in the contact between the probe and the dock over time. Extended exposure to high temperatures, combined with residue that can build up invisibly around the ceramic ring, can interfere with the probe’s ability to wake and communicate. In some cases, the dock’s internal battery can also lose the stable output needed to maintain that standby connection. Our team would be glad to review your history and help determine the best next step, rather than repeating the same outcome again. Whenever you’re ready, please reach out to us at support.meater.com, and we’ll take it from there.

    Best and easiest thermometer

I just bought this yesterday 1/23/26 at 2 o clock and used it with a brisket cook the same day at 8pm. Super easy set up, did an 18hr low and slow with the meater plus and was the best brisket ever!!! I’ve tried cheaper models and that’s exactly what they were, cheap and crappy! I will only purchase meater here on out. Is it perfect, no but nothing is, but it’s pretty dang close!! Would highly recommend this to anyone who grills, likes to put boss a Smoker, and who doesn’t want to stress over large cuts of meat.
