In this forest fable, Rat panics when her friend Jackdaw sees that she is sad and runs off into the woods just as a huge storm moves in. Rat nearly comes to harm, but then encounters Bear, who offers company while they wait out the thunder. As Bear helps her talk about her fears, Rat gains the courage to tell her friends about her scary feelings.

Karl James Mountford is an illustrator who works in both traditional and digital media. He is the creator of The Circles in the Sky and the illustrator of the picture books Maurice the Unbeastly by Amy Dixon and The Curious Case of the Missing Mammoth by Ellie Hattie, as well as book covers and chapter illustrations. He lives and works in Wales, where his sketchbooks rarely get a day off.
