Q: Can this desk be repainted without doing anything to the existing finish, or does it need some kind of treatment?

A: In order for the paint or finish you wish to put on the item to adhere correctly you would need to sand the unit down since it does have a gloss satin finish to it

Do not hesitate to purchase. It is sturdy and lovely. Well packaged and arrived safely. Only took about an hour to assemble alone-the instructions are barely more than pictures so I took my time.

Worst purchase I have ever made from Target. The piece was nicked and scratched so bad. I will have to make sure it isn't seen because I am ashamed I bought this piece of garbage. I wish I could take it back but after having someone put it together I couldn't get it back to the store.

This was one of the easiest furniture items I have assembled myself. The desk is very sturdy and worth the price. I had no issues with shipping or damages on arrival. It is a solid desk that works well for the small areas.

This little desk works perfectly for my bedroom! I've been searching for some time for a desk, with specific criteria in mind. That included size and features, and it needed to be made of wood in a color that goes with my furniture. This fits the bill nicely. The assembly process was pretty straight forward. I reviewed the instructions and then placed labels on the individual pieces to help quickly identify what was next.

This little secretary was the perfect size for the space I needed it for and was the right color and on sale! Unfortunately two pieces were damaged upon arrival. One was scratched and one had the imprint of a screw’s head on it. Since all the holes are predrilled the only option for a fix was to call the company and wait 2 weeks for them to ship more pieces. I debated that and since I had the thing halfway put together at the time and really needed a place to put my stuff I just decided to live with it. It’s a good sturdy piece and I’m happy with it and the imperfections are small enough you don’t know that they’re there unless you do. ;)

This little secretary desk is perfect for a small area. I bought it for my mother who just moved to a senior care facility and wanted a desk to keep a small amount of "desk" items. The dark wood gives it a quality look. As per the advice of another review, I took all parts out of the box and labeled them by name and letter so as I followed the instructions it would be easy to find the part. Once all parts were labeled, it took about 30 minutes for my husband to put the desk together. All pieces arrived in perfect condition.
