Book Synopsis
Perfect for reluctant readers who'd rather be gaming than pick up a book - an adventure story set in the Minecraft world they already know and love!
Grab your pickaxe and get ready to dive into the world of Minecraft like you've never seen it before. Join Tom, a timid boy who is bullied and the smallest boy in school, as he embarks on a daring quest to rescue his little sister Alice from the clutches of the game itself.
To succeed, he'll need to find the courage he never knew he had and form friendships and alliances with a steely warrior and a mystical potions master. Together, they'll face unknown dangers and battle against a terrifying urban legend who has kidnapped Alice for his own sinister plans.
Through loyalty, sacrifice, and overcoming the bullies can Tom find his inner hero in this epic battle between good and evil?
This action-packed adventure is perfect for readers aged 8-12 who love the game and crave thrilling fantasy worlds.
Review Quotes
If you have a son/daughter who have become immersed in the Minecraft world, then this is a book for them. M.C. Reeves does an excellent job of literally taking you into the world through the use of in-game crafting knowledge and characters. The themes of this book include: bullying, standing up for yourself/others, integrity, and finding your strengths.
As an elementary librarian, I feel that this would be a good school book-club read or a book to read with your son/daughter. You might find yourself a bit lost, like I did, with the Minecraft technicalities but it will give the kids a great opportunity to show their knowledge and interest while bringing up excellent real-world discussions.
I do wish one of the big real-world problems would have been more resolved. However, this is book 1, so I am hopeful that it will be in the books to come. ...I have my theories as to where M.C. Reeves is taking the story.
